Getting closer to finishing Pz IV 'D' - detail painting of tools, tow cable and other items. Already applied a couple of washes. Test fitted the kit provided track, Dragon's new DS Track. Looks like it going to be a tight fit. Test fitted the engine, transmission and crew access hatches. The kit comes with 7 different marks for DAK theater vehicles. Mostly white outlined numbers, however reference photos have several vehicles with dark fill in with white outlines. Photos below. Armor86

Nicely done Dogzilla17 - remember building that  kit 9044 and using several aftermarket Photo etch, metal barrel and friu track. Test fit the DS Dragon track and its going to be tight. Anyone in the Group have any suggestions on how best to them. Armor 86

Matt: Your 109 looks great! I wouldn't be able to tell it's only your 2nd build!

Zvezda: That little bugger looks like a 1/35 one! Without anything fir size comparison I would'Äve never believed it's only 1/72! Outstanding work!

Bob: A nice looking Jeep you got there! I can't wait to see her finished!

I am EXTREMELY pleased with my 109, that and my A7-A are my first two builds, and the A-7A looks like a child constructed it...Embarrassed

Yes tigerman, the set for the other side ripped. Revel decals usually are of poor quality. So I put them on it "good side" lol

Thanks for the encouragement Bob. Sorry, but I guess the fairer sex got more of my attention then did my bench. Wink

Catchy 109 there Matt. Unless I missed it in an earlier post, it looks like the 11 numerals are backwards.

First off-nice work all-a lot of inspiring builds here.  I'm sorry that I haven't been commenting as the pics have been posted but I have been viewing the posts daily.

Did a little scratch building on this one-racks for the gas cans, mounting for the twin Vickers in the back seat, mounting for a Vickers on the drivers side fender.  Nice basic kit-a lot of opportunities to take it to the next level.

Didn't quite get finished-having trouble finding time/motivation/space to work on the SAS Jeep, but I will finish this one-just a matter of painting some of the smaller detail, a coat of Future (if I can find it), then an oil wash and then a coat of flat and maybe testing the Tamiya weathering powers I picked up.

As always, I enjoyed watching everyone build and hope to see you again in another GB

Eric-another great theme-sorry that you didn't get to participate at the level you wanted but hopefully things will sort out and you can participate at the levels you desire.

Thank you for the kind words folks. Photo snaps hide a lot of defects & mistakes, which I will try to amend in future builds.

That was the first tank but surely not the last, it was a sheer joy building and painting it.

All inspiration was derived by watching your desert dusty projects (especially that Pz.III between the Roman ruins was a true masterpiece in 3-D), so thank you all.

It's actually coloured VERY desert sand, that is the camera effect. I must admit that looks like one COOL color. Hard to tell its a Revell huh ;]

Albert Espenlaub ( an axis flying ace) was out on a sortie on  December 13, 1941 where he downed two Allied aircraft. However he suffered damage to his cooling system and was forced to make an emergency landing over enemy territory. The crash landing was  successful and Albert was unharmed, he was quickly captured. Unfortunately in February 25, 1942 while trying to escape from a POW camp Albert was shot dead. His official ariel kill count is 14.

Zvezda, if that's your first Panzer then I'm triply impressed, that's a cracking job! It looks great, beautifully done and very realistic!

Great work on the braille Pz III Zvezda. I had to double-take it.

Dan, tell your  Tiger commander not to shoot that '88, I surrender!  Great work and figure Toast

After a surprise trip to the Middle East for work, almost threw me of schedule, I managed to finally complete the little devi just as the deadline expires!

Did not have time to post pics while working, so I make a brief summary.

Decals (number, crosses and that's all)  were applied, depicting a tank of 3rd company/8th Panzer Regiment/15th Panzer Division fighting in Tunisia in 1943.

Tracks and wheels were assembled, tracks  painted Gunze's steel as a base  (that consumed most of the time, those track lengths were tricky as hell to put together) and installed on the vehicle. A heavy wash with black and sienna+umber oils was applied and then oils were carefully brushed off selected areas, so as to provide the surfaces with some depth.

After the wash was dried up (a great thanx to the hot weather) dry-brushing was applied with shades of lightened sand, gun metal and steel.

The various spare tracks, wheels, boxes, etc were attached, painted and dry-brushed.

Exhaust was painted black and then dry brushed with shades of steel and rust.

As a final step I wanted to subtly add some dust. Having in mind the way vehicles and equipment were dusted, from the days I was working in Algeria 's desert, I chose a mix of Tamiyas Desert Yellow + light brown. The mix was thinned heavily and sprayed freely on the tank, with the emphasis on the lower section, wheels and tracks.

I did not add any mud accumulated on the tank's hull, since I remember due to the extreme dryness, vehicles got rather little mud blobs and in 1.72 scale it was betrer not to try it at all. Just a yellow-brownish, irritating layer of eternal dust that never leaves!

Finally several thin layers of Gunze's flat clear sealed everything off.

And my firts tank attempt is finished...

All your comments, criticism and recommedations are highly welcomed

Dan - panzer IV is looking great, good to know you will continue posting the progress here.

Matt - if your canopy still has masking on it, I'd go ahead and attach now.  The gloss coat will help seal it to the fuselage.  If your canopy is finished, and masking removed, probably better to leave off.  Unless you think you can work around it without marring the surface.

regards,

Jack

Heres where i standl probably 95% done. Since the finish is flat I know decals wont stick correctly. I was wondering shold i top coat it with or without the canopy on???? Other than all I have to attach are the front wheels and bay cover.. HEEELPPPP LOL

i still have the yellow on the tail masked (oops)

Dan: I really like that "new and shiny" look of your Tiger! The figure adds a lot to the model!

Dan (armor): Now that's what I call inspiring! The beaten-up paint looks great! I had a little setback with badly molded parts on the interior, but CMK sent me new ones.

ERic: Same story here, I'm going to need quite some extra time for this one. Life kept getting in the way and my  bench time was non existent for several months earlier this year which means all my build schedules are completely mesed up... I want to take my time with the Pz.IV, so if it takes too long I can post my progress in a separate thread. I'd prefer to do it here though if that's OK with you.
