Okay, I'm back in business. I previously purchased Campbell Hausfeld Air compressors. Big mistake. I bought 2 of them . and they both went bad and that was with very few hours on them. Well today, I bought  Ridgid's vertical pancake . I was looking at Dewalts decimal .33 horsepower. When I went to Home depot. I came across the Ridgid. and it was only $20 more and its a 2 HP plus a 6 gallon tank. Hopefully, I won't ever have to buy another.

I was just starting to think about painting the 24 and the 17 with a  brush  Now, all I need  is the pink paint. I read that the camo paint faded into the pink after a short time time in the North African sun. I'm comimng across some things on the internet that says it was painted that way to begin with. So which way is it?

I still have some ways to go before 60, but starting to feel it already.

I just found this old article on FSM which says the colour was ANA 616 sand which then faded to pink.

This is backed up by a list of US paints on IPMS Stockholm,

It also gives a few paints that can be used to achieve this. How you would then lighten it to the pink hue is another matter.

I've been making progress on the T34/76, though I haven't really gotten into the weathering yet, other than a wash that didn't really have much of an effect, and the tracks, which are painted. I plan to go at it with weathering pastels and see how that goes. Decals are Archer dry transfer, which were super easy to use and look great - they're thin enough to allow the turret texture to show through. Very nice.

CMK - That painting is excellent - result justifies the effort.

Ken, happy birthday, had a glass of red wine for you in case you missed out... I have started buying my Xmas presents to me already. Can't justify a new compressor yet but let us know how it goes.

So the wildcat is glossed up and decalled. Academy decals set down well with Mr Decal Setter and Softer

Also got the remodelling of the prop completed and silvered to check the finish. Wish I had a before photo. White base coat next.

Glossed over the decals and let that dry for five days before the oil paint weathering. Trying to get a bit of a streaky look going.

Now another clear coat before the panel lines get done, exhaust staining, oil streaks etc etc

Lost, that is looking really nice. I don't really go for PTO builds, but that is a really nice scheme.

It is an F4F 4 flying off USS Santee in the Atlantic, sub hunting. Most of the Wildcats were GM FM-1 and FM-2, which only had four guns, making the model inaccurate for the scheme provided. Finally found reference to the F4F 4s on USS Santee.

I liked the box at first because it stands out and breaks up all the green, but now I'm thinking it stands out too much - have to tone down the light wood color a bit.

Lost, You have done a very impressive job so far on your Wildcat. The paint job is excellent especially the streaking effect you've done.

The paint work is excellent on the T-34, Raven.  Well done.  And maybe the box is new, with Lend-Lease stuff from Amerika.

well There has been another set back . I seem to have quite a few of them latley.

My Rifgid air compressor had to go back. I floated a loan for it, but my expenses (Utilties) voted my new toy out. If anyone needs a new aircompressor, Home depot is selling the Ridgid Vertical Pancake for $169. And it's worth every penny

maybe I can get one CH air compressor out of my 2. I'll start on that project tomorrow

Ken, I am indeed sorry to hear about your misfortune. Hang in there my friend as I'm sure good fortune will soon find it's way to you.

Well Gentlemen, I've got a bit of progress to share with you all. It took me a little while but I've finally got all the PE on the landing gear as well as the copper wire brake lines. Blessed be the optivisor as it was an absolute necessity for this endeavor. Here is a pic showing the work prior to shooting the gear with primer.

Sorry, too, Ken about your compressor experiences.  I also had two CH compressors from Walmart a few years ago--and both of them went belly-up in mere months, with very little usage.  Finally went back to a Paasche compressor.  The first one I had of those lasted me about twenty years.  Unfortunately, no tank--just the compressor.  

Hope things start going better for ya!
