Mike, you are right about the GasPatch turnbuckles.  I'm completely sold on them and

wouldn't consider rigging a biplane without them.  Any news on the choice of build dept.?

You could do the Fe2, but I like you too much to envision you blithering to yourself in a

dark closet when the rigging starts. ; )  Looking forward to your decision.

Cheers,

Ernie

Hey Ernie!  Actually my friend, that's one I've been considering. Wink  Already picked up the HGW set for detailing the Beardmore engine, and recently ordered some of those late style British turnbuckles from Gaspatch (along with a few more German ones).  They'll come in handy on the Fe.2b ( as well as the Snipe and the tripe). Also been reconsidering the Roland D.VIa - it's a neat little plane with sweet lines, and a lot smaller than I thought it would be - the Pfalz, Albatros and D.VII dwarf it.  Got some RB Productions seat belts, plus Master brass gun barrels and cooling jackets on the way for that one.

Mike, Thank you so much for the tip! WOW... Those little turn buckles are amazing... You've sold me on them! I think like Ernie said though, I had best clear a spot in a dark closet and install a lock on the door!

I've said it before, I may have bitten off a bit more then I can chew this time... Oh well, I will use that thought to instill a greater resolve in my self! (lol)

Thanks again...

I've decided on a Nieuport 28 for this group build...I've never built a biplane before so this should be fun!   Here's a box shot....i apologize in advance for the klutter on the table/poor lighting:

Doug - happy to help, my friend!  They really do make rigging so much easier.

rocker - love Nieuports, especially the -28.  That's a great choice! Yes

Not in 1/72 Bish.  Those would be quite small.  Even the 1/32 ones are tiny.

Goodday All, new to the site, but, not a new builder. WW1 is my target modeling era, thus, this fits in my wheelhouse, and, Mike (ruddrat) gave me tips to get on over here (thanks Mike!). Anyway, big fan'o the Wingnut Wings line, so, I've got a 1/32 Roland D.VIa sitting pretty in the box and I'd like to be considered for this GB. As I always have a project on the go, I will likely do a ship and an armoured piece as well later down the line.

Glad you made it here Rob!  Awesome to have another WWI and Wingnut Wings fan.  Yes  I have that Roland in my stash as well - looks like a great kit!  When Dave gets here he'll add your name to the roster for sure.  That'll give us 26 entries for this build! Sweet!

We can suffer together. I think these kits are very deceiving. You open the box and see there's not much there and think this should be a snip.

But o no.

Yes I know what you mean,  I was looking at the very small drill bits to see which ones I'll need to drill holes for the rigging.  not sure yet  .047 dia.  I'm sure that's where i'll start Boo Hoo my eye balls out. This is assuming I get that far, I still have to assemble the wings!

Yes one tree of parts = many weeks of pain and anguish! Bang Head

What the heck, I'm in as well. My build schedule is full right now, but as this one is going to stay here for a few years, I'm sure I'll have enough time to contribute a model before it ends. I was never really into WW1 aviation, but there are a few planes that just look so nice. One of them is one of my recent additions to the 1/32 stash:

This is my first and only WW1 aircraft kit so far and I don't plan on adding a lot more to my stash, but It's always nice to build something different once in a while.

I'll build her as shown on the box top because the Edelweiß paint scheme looks so damn nice. Add the fact that I'm Austrian and this little flower is somewhat of a national insignia for Austria and you have the perfect paint scheme for me!

Cheers, Clemens

I can't recall what size bit I used on the 0/400. The smallest I have is 0.25mm. What I could not find is any online source for rigging schemes. I read a review on the kit we have which say's the instructions are not very clear, I haven't checked that far yet. But theres always the box art.

I believe the rigging scheme is better drawn out in the 1/48 albatros instructions.  I know the  DIII I did for the FSM WWI GB had pretty good directions.

Nah, I don't think this is going to happen. I am not a huge fan of most WW1 planes TBH. There are some I really like though:

  • Roland D.VI (the one I'm building for this)
  • Albatros D.V
  • AMC DH.2 (on it's way to me)
  • Sopwith Snipe

That's pretty much all of them. I think I'll pass on the Albatros as it looks very similar to the Roland (to me at least). 3-4 WW1 models ain't that bad (compared to my 190s, that is).

I have quote for you as well: "Who's the more foolish, the fool or the fool who follows him?" Now guess who said that! Devil
