Good stuff, Nathan. I looked at Tamiya's German Grey and wrote it off as being too dark, but after looking at those photos, I'm reconsidering:

It's funny, it wasn't all that long ago that I didn't consider myself the type of modeler to spend a lot of time researching or worrying about accurate paint colors. Wink

Its funny how Tamiyas German Grey and can used for both RLM 66 and Pz Grey. I wonder if the two have ever been compared.

It's interesting you say that, I noticed that the armor models that come up in the Google Image search for 'German Grey Tamiya' look much lighter in comparison to the swatch I posted.

Believe me it becomes an obsession,  just ask us over in the fw190 GB. it's a driving force to "get it right"  the color that is.  it's another one of those bad habits like increasing your stash!!Surprise

Oh no  I work the hobby store tonight,  must resist!!! do not buy anything!!!Devil

Tamiya's German gray works great for RLM 66. I sometimes lighten it just a tad with white for the kicks and giggles. Even a bit of blue/violet could be added to it by the looks of some photos. God only knows what Tamiya meant it to be used for...

..And yes, any online color chip will not resemble the true color out of the bottle, not even close, so don't go by that.

Point well taken - I picked up a bottle at lunch today and it is definitely much lighter than that.

There's some good information being tossed around here.

I really like Gunze's RLM66 version. It's noticeably lighter than Tamiya's German Gray. I usually spray it on top of a black base coat to have some shading in all the recesses of the cockpit. The lighter shade actually makes the details on the model more visible instead of just turning the 'pit into a dark hole Wink

I think I'll paint the interior "Polish Crimson", or "Pepto Bismol Pink".  Whatever...  Wink

Joe, do you mean you have no photo's for those areas, or you have photo's but what should be there is missing.

Right! I have no photos for those areas. Color I can now work around, It's all the other finer details that I'm having to guess and thanks for the clarification. All of the information put out regarding color is outstanding and I will definitely use it but the pics are what I'm after if anybody has any. With only two aircraft left in the world of this model it'll be hard to get ahold of I'm sure. I'll post what I have tomorrow night/ Friday morning time frame.

I have just a few more hours work with another GB. Then I'll clean up the scale modeling explosion that masquerades as my work bench, and I'm ready!

Bish,

Ooooo.  I have one of those too!  I've only got the resin exhausts on one side done and pretty much nothing else.  Sad

I'm anxious to get started too, but I need to finish my LCVP first.  I can't focus if I'm working on more than one thing at a time.  Plus, I'm still waiting for my PE set to arrive.  It should be shipped any day now...I hope.

Wish I would have joined this GB, because I just got done with Hasegawa's new 1/48 JU-87 R-2 Stuka Desert Snake for an IPMS review. I will hijack this and posy a couple photos:

Now that's nice Tim. How was it to build. We have a couple of guys building the hase 48th B, which I guess is the same kit.

Well, if you feel like doing another Stuka this year, feel free to jump on board when ever you like.

Thanks guys.

Here's a link to my review:

web.ipmsusa3.org/.../junkers-ju87r-2-stuka-limited-edition

This kit builds up very simply with just a minor fit problem on one of the wing roots. I used Eduard's Zoom cockpit PE set and their masking set. Both are awesome and worth the extra $15 together. I would have liked to find a replacement machine gun for the rear gunner, the kit one is not too good.

As its 10 days to go I was looking for some ideas on paint schemes and found this site below. Haven't seen anyone else post ito so thought I'd share

http://wp.scn.ru/en/ww2/b/29/2

A friend has asked me to build a Stuka for him in 1/48 at the same time as the one I already agreed too so I think I will use his for practice first Devil

I quite like Wings Pallet. their info isn't always spot on, but they have some great images. Cheers for that Phil.

John, nice build, I do like the Stuka with the yellow nose.

These decals come with the kit. I had a lot of problems with the snake and crosses breaking apart. They are very thin and take a lot of care. The snake is in two pieces and is slip when the cross cover it.

Mine is in two pieces as well. I'm looking forward to the challenge though. I've had these decals sealed up and tucked away for around 12 years now.
