Kind of you to say that! I think a big 1:24 one day might be on the cards...!

O ye, got my eyes on one of those as well.
I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Mike, your Stuka looks great regardless of your self-infilicted 7/10 rating.
All of your trials and tribulations are non-apparent, mate. Nicely done!
If mine turns out half as nice, I'll be content.
Mike, that Stuka looks fantastic! I'm with Greg, I hope mine turns out half as good.

Thanks Bish, Greg and Steve -- it looks good in the display case and maybe I'm nit-picking on details which will be more or less invisible under casual viewing conditions -- we are so attuned to seeing well-lit macro photos that we build to those conditions, while there are times I get the feeling I could put paint on with a half-inch brush and it would barely be noticeable on the shelf! Okay, overstatement, but you get the picture!
I'll do a blog post about the decal technique sometime in the near future, it's mostly written already and I'll pull a couple of the progress pics for it.
Cheers all,
TBolt
Stunning looking Stuka. That decal idea for the canopy framing was an excellent one. Love that subtle weathering specially on the underside.
Too many models to build, not enough time in a lifetime!!
Great job Mike! Nice recovery on the canopy

I decided to try my hand at canopy masking using Bare-Metal Foil. It was an...interesting way to spend a Saturday evening. The masking isn't perfect, but I should be able to touch up after paint.
Now please excuse me while I go have a nervous breakdown.
Now that don't sound fun Steve. I have not masked with foil before. Are these pre cut or do you have to trim them yourself.
Bish Now that don't sound fun Steve. I have not masked with foil before. Are these pre cut or do you have to trim them yourself.
Yeah, I had to trim them myself. I've seen it done in FSM before, but it's actually in the Q&A section of the latest issue (Dec 14). After I made that post I realized I forgot one canopy piece.
O yes, so you have, the pilots section. I think I will stick with pre cut masks.
Bish O yes, so you have, the pilots section. I think I will stick with pre cut masks.
I think I will too, in the future. At least I can say that I tried it, and if it doesn't turn out well I can blame Aaron Skinner.
Steve I send you my regards from my cell in the local psychiatric hospital, after trying masking with BMF on a 1/72 Ju-88. The Junkers is still unfinished and the kind gentlemen with the white uniforms took me to this nice place where I can use my precut masks and tamiya tape strips, while recovering.
That's always a handy option to have Steve.
Raven, you have both my respect and my sympathy -- I don't even want to think about Stuka canopies again for the immediate future! For what it's worth, you've done a good job!
Excellent effort Raven. I have heard this method woks very well but I think I will go with Bish's idea of pre cut masks.
Would anybody know id the ROG 1/48 B-2 I'm building is an ex Italeri mold? I'm only finding pre cut masks for Italeri or Tamiya B-2.
Steve, you didn't pick an easy canopy for your first try. Be interested to see how it comes out after painting.
I don't think I'm brave enough to try it, but good on you for trying something different.
Hope the breakdown doesn't last too long.
Thanks for the.kind words. I did get the fourth canopy done today as well. *twitch*
I did some on line review parts comparison and looks like my ROG is a rebox of the Hasegawa R-2 Desert Snake limited edition version less the fuel tanks and decals. The parts arrangement in the trees are identical to the one I have. So the Hasegawa Ju 87B-2 masks should fit mine.

Yes.
PJ, it's ex-Hasegawa, same one I built.
Tbolt and Jonathan
Great, thanks to both.

Mike this Stuka is Beautiful!!! Sharp build with excellent painting!
If you don't mind, I have set it as desktop wallpaper for a few days, in order to get inspiration to complete mine (like a modelling stimulant ).
As soon as yesterday's gloss varnish dries up and decals are in place, I will join you in the Cretan Campaign.
Cheers
Zvezda, that's a great compliment! Thankyou so much, and I hope yours turns out brilliantly!
Cheers, M/TB379
Dang Thunderbolt! That came out great! Kudos on the paint and weathering.
I can't believe I managed to miss the completion of your Stuka, Mike! She's a real beauty! The subtle weathering (especially on the lower surfaces) looks great and that blue spinner tip really makes her stand out!
Thanks Mustang and Clemens! It's great that so many talented builders appreciate this project, I was a bit ambivalent about the final product -- maybe I'm my own worst critic! It was certainly a tougher build than say the Hobby Boss Fw 190 D-9 I did earlier in the year, indeed it's been a year of challenges in one way or another. Am currently knocking out a 1:72 Mustang (the Airfix new-tool, sweet kit), and am chasing a completion a week to the end of the year, though I don't think I'm going to manage that as I've got some work lined up unexpectedly. Two GB commitments left to see to, one overtime for ages...
Since seeing Shooters Airfix Stuka, I have had it in mind that I should get one of these. I have overlooked it before because of its age but it really does look a sweet kit. Well, 2 weeks ago was my birthday, and of course I got some money. And then I just happened to see the kit on E-bay going for £20 less than the normal price.
Has to be fate doesn't it. The modelling gods could not have been any clearer.
Boy this thing does look nice and certainly looks better than me after 40 years. Now, where to put the damn thing. Anyone have any tips on encouraging the kids to move out sooner.
Congratulations, Bish! I hope one day to build some kits this big myself, but it'll be a long time coming -- it's all about storage. But that doesn't mean I can 't collect them in the meantime! I hope you find somewhere to display it and can rip into it before too long!
