I made a bit more progress on the Lightning. The fuselage went together well with only a few CA glue fills needed. For those who know Airfix plastic, it's very soft and sands and polishes well. I was sort of confused as to why Airfix made the 'bulge' in the belly of the plane a two-part construction? Anyway, it was a bit of a challenge to close up and seal the gaps. I think it would have been better molded as part of the entire fuselage, but, maybe they did that for a future version.

Anyway, the fuselage and wings are done. I am seriously contemplating painting the fuselage before fixing the wings in place. The Lightning's wings are SO swept back, that the trailing edges are so close to the fuselage sides, that, it will be difficult to get in there with the airbrush. Now, my big concern is the wing roots leave a substantial gap, so, filling with painting already being done...sheesh..I dunno yet.

The canopy and windscreen needed a bit of persuasion, sanding and filling to fit. That was surprising, but, they settled in. I will mask them both with bare metal foil this eve:

Back at it tonight.

Tonight was a rough start in model world. It started off bad when i had decided I had a taste for some Fettuccine Alfredo with chicken, walked to Walmart to get the ingredients, returned home and began to prepare it when the power went out. Thank goodness  I have a gas stove, a battery powered lantern, and flashlights. I was able to complete and enjoy dinner as best I can, but everything else was off the board. It was off for about 2 hours.

Finally, lights on and I could head back to do a little work.

More details to the F-8 cockpit, though I don't know if you can tell what I did. I can barely see the parts I added.

It turns out that the tablet may have some use after all. I wanted to see some details of a Flanker cockpit (no, I still haven't really started it! Really!) typed in a search and I was quickly able to view photos without going all the way to the far side of the house to use the desktop.

Maybe this free thing might be worth it's non-cost after all!

And no, I'm not starting on the Flanker! I am not cutting seat and cockpit parts from their sprues. ...Well, maybe just a little......

As you see, I'm still learning and playing with the little tablet. I wanted to see if I could see and reply to posts here, but the supplied browser was horrible. It constantly froze-up, as was super slow to load any page, and half the buttons (such as the 'post' button) didn't even work. Went to the Apps store and found Dolphin, which was rated with 4 1/2 stars compared to the original at 1 star. The only thing I can't do, is pictures. It has a camera, but it's on the side that the user is on. Not much good unless you like to do "selfies".

And as to pictures, got a late start at the desk with work (ie. slavery), a long afternoon sleep, out to grab a bite, a long winded friend calling,and then another session with those dang Angry Birds, but I did manage a little!!

Cementing the wings on the A-10. The trailing edges of the wings didn't want to line up like I wanted, but the help of some big yellow rubber bands convinced them differently. I cemented in the engine nacelles a few days ago, because I figured to use them as anchors when it came to attach the wings

Another view of the F-8E cockpit. Still a few parts left to add there. I kind of scuffed up the black area with a silver pencil to give it a worn look.

No official start here on the Flanker, just checking some parts.I painted the cockpit with Testors Medium Grey instead of the Gull grey as suggested by the instructions. I checked the net and found lots of suggestions, but too many different answers, Some sites show the blue green you see in the bottle, but I chose the color I used as it was a closer match to the Eduard parts. Part of this will be black above the intraments.

The Lightning has an interesting feature whereas the cockpit mounts directly on top of the front intake, so, that was kinda cool.

Here she is: 1/72 Airfix Lightning F.2A, 2013 and done in the Airfix 'new tooling' line

Very basic cockpit. Decal instrumentation, basic, low detail seat with 3 parts and ejection handles on top of  the seat. Basic tub that mounts directly on the intake:

Instructions call for weight and this lead plug is 'secreted' in the nose cone housing, then sealed up with the cone itself (nice feature):

And, to finish off the building day, the tub mounted on the intake. I did not paint the interior of the intake as I will be using the kit supplied FOD guard:

Just reading the posts about OS's and remembered about 20 years ago I was fresh out of college and working at an engineering lab where Linux was the big thing with all the IT nerds, (no offense Ken). Anyway, back then we had to input all our data using DOS commands. One stray keystroke and it was back to square one! I also used a B&K signal analyzer and you had to transfer that stuff using floppy disks. Boy how times have changed! Don't miss those days.

Hey all.

Pass the cigars, another new arrival at my house!

I know, not that big of a deal, but it was kind of interesting as this is my first Russian made kit! I've had German, Chinese, Japanese, Korean to name a few, but no Ruskie!

Had to open, and found this:

A box within a box! Got to give them credit for packaging!

Inside that:

With a couple of exceptions, most of the sprues are bagged individually. They could have bagged the decals though.

I didn't really look at it too much, or open anything, but from what I saw, the molding looked fairly crisp.The manual is interesting as one page says something like, "Placement of technical data labels" instead of just decal placement.

Had to put it away though, as I don't want to do another project yet.

Interesting looking build Jim. I have also heard good things about Zveda kits. I have a couple of their 35th armour models and have been eyeing up one of their 72nd Ju 88's. I'll be keen to see how this one goes.

And don't worry, i'll be joining you soon with a 72nd build. My F-16 is out and ready, I just want to get a PE exhaust for it.

Hey Jim, I also signed up for this some time ago but was unable to start due to a large number of models under way. Now that I've finished up eleven of them, I'll be starting something  in 1/72 scale for this as well. Stay tuned while I determine what it will be. That way you'll have two of us Braille Scale builders!

I did find another use for it: it has Kindle installed and there was I book I wanted that was only available as a trade paperback or a download....16 bucks plus shipping or 5 for the download. I already have an Amazon account, so.......

Now I'm reading instead of hobby work!

It's not really a Kindle reader- actually a small tablet/pad with Kindle installed as an App. It's a Android D2 for whatever that's worth, and I don't even know who manufactured it other than China. I don't know what is the difference between a pad and a tablet, if there is. Still, free is free!

Just looked at your pics Jim and she looks like a beauty! I've built a couple of Zvezda models; all Russian tanks and as far as those go, no problems whatsoever. The fit was right up there with Tamiya and Hasegawa. I'm sure their aircraft are just as good. Enjoy!

Yeah Jim , saying Angry Birds is kind of addicting is like saying cocaine's kind of addicting. I wasted too much of my life on that stupid game; at least according to my girlfriend! My response was always the same: would you prefer I spent more time at strip clubs? Anyway, the fact that you got any work done on the model is exemplary my friend. And it's looking pretty darn good!
