Hey guys!

Like you all, have been battling the flu and the cold weather.  Despite the flu shot, I got two different types of the flu, obviously the strains not used for the basis of the vaccination!!  What a bummer!!

-Bish- your F-16 is looking great!

Jim and Ken- I'm a trekkie like you guys; despite the corny dialogue, I still prefer the original series with William Shatner.  I think my favorite characters were Bones McCoy and Scotty......loved the accent!!

I never got to see ST when it was first broadcast as the parents controlled the set. There was no way we would ever watch programs that were not "real" and too "weird". I had to wait until it came out in syndication to see it.

I didn't like TNG when it came out, but it eventually grew on me.

DS9 I followed for a while - my favorite character was Odo. He slept in a bucket in his office.

Voyager for a bit, but lost interest, and Enterprise I never watched even one episode.

Another new addition here:

I had to choose the "case X" version as it was all they had at the LHS. A detail kit has to come all the way from my supplier down under.

This one could join either the Vietnam build and the Century Series group build

Nice work once again Jim!  On that masking job, did you cut lines into the tape for the hinged area?  If you did, how did you do that? 

The F-102A would definitely qualify for my USAF Vietnam group build.  You could paint it ADC grey or SEA camouflage.  The USAF didn't start using the SEA camouflage until 1966.

I was 9 years old when it first aired. I remember watching it along with Lost in Space.  I also remember watching Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea.

Actually I don't much has been posted here recently Bish- most of us are trying to keep warm!

Nice work on your F-16, did you already cement the landing gear on? I'd be terrified I'd knock them off while painting.

Thanks. Ye, in this case I did. They had to be fitted for the piece that goes between the wheel wells to be fitted. And so I decided to add the front ones as well. And having them on does help in the painting. But so far so good.

Thanks guys. For some reason I keep missing the new posts on here, I was wondering why it had got so quiet. I guess the site has been so busy, its hard to keep track of everything.

Jim, really like the look of that canopy. I was going to have a try at dipping the 16 canopy in future, I have never tried that before. Looking at that result, I must get to it. I don't think I have ever seen that Star Trek episode, do you recall what it was called.

I got the pit fitted today and will post some pic slater. Just need to get the wings attached.

I have to admit to being a bit of a "Trekkie" though I never went so far as to attend conventions or anything like that.

The original pilot was titled "The Cage" and was later incorporated into the two part episode "The Menagerie", where Spock was being court marshaled. Leonard Nemoy and Majal Barret (Mrs. Gene Roddenberry, Nurse Chapel, Lwaxana Troy, and the voice of the computer in every series) were the only two actors from the series that had a role in the original pilot.

This version also includes marking for a SEA unit, the 497th.

I understand the 102's were pretty ineffective there as they were better suited for intercepting long range Soviet bombers as they were intended for.

These makings are confusing as they say "1970" and according to wikipedia, they only flew the Daggers from 60-64, and afterwards flew Phantoms....

Thanks for the info Ken! When I looked it up on the web, all I got was techno-babble. I also thought I read that there were some upgrades to some of the avionics as well?

When I get ready to start this kit, it means I will be forced to visit the Wings Over The Rockies Museum again! There is a 102 on display there. They used to have a 106 as well, but it got sent elsewhere.

I don't know about the Meng Model company itself, how long it's been around. The 102 was released in 2012, I believe.

Installed the phono preamp I sent away for a while back, and sitting here listening to one of Mom's......

...excuse me while I go turn the record over...

....Patsy Cline records. Nice sound, but the records are in horrible shape with a ton of static and scratches!

Now on to some Hank Williams... My friends would think I'm nuts!

I did install a high dollar needle/cartridge for it not too long ago.  But truthfully, I rarely play albums on it.  It is so much easier to use my computer or CD player for tunes.

I hear that! I just wanted to hear some of the albums I brought from Mom's. My table was at the high-end of the consumer line of direct drive turntables. The platter on the thing is turned aluminum and weighs something around 3 or 4 pounds! What a difference in technologies when we argued about direct drive vs. belt, moving magnet vs. moving coil, straight vs.curved tone arms. This things speed is controlled by a phase-locked loop circuit, and the funny thing is, I don't know what that means now any more that I did when I bought it. It just worked! I didn't want to worry about belts, speed adjustments and so on. Technics was my "thing" back then and shopped accordingly. The old Technics AV receiver quit a while back and the new Pioneer unit had no jacks for phonograph input. Hence, why I had to get a pre-amp. Funny how all that stuff from the 70's is gone now, but the turntable is still kicking!  I did have to replace the cartridge a while back as the old one went bad on one side. It's a cheapie as well, for about 50 bucks. Just needs to work.

My turntable is not that fancy.  It is a belt drive.  I have replaced the belt at least a couple of times. I bought it originally at the same time that I bought the rest of the stereo system when I first moved out of my parent's house.  So my budget was a little limited.

My LP collection is smaller than my CD collection, but my LP collection is a fair size.  I have some LPs that probably will never be put on a CD.  I have recorded some of them onto CDs.

Wow, knew a lot of people my age with LPs and cassettes but never really started collecting music here till CDs came out. Took me over a month to figure out the MP3 player on my car, still not sure totally sure I understand them completely.

My LP collection is smaller than my CD collection, but my LP collection is a fair size.  I have some LPs that probably will never be put on a CD.  I have recorded some of them onto CDs.

My LP collection is sizable as well, but that's only because that's what was available at the time. I didn't like 8-tracks, cassettes were crap and the only other medium was reel to reel and that was for audiophiles. Albums were fun to acquire because the covers were just as interesting as what was inside.

I can remember my first LP purchase. It was Steely Dan's "Can't Buy A Thrill".

Back to modeling, I painted the underside of the f-8 white:

Yes, that's an open bottle of Advil in the background. The arthritis in my wrists is having it's way with me lately.

The white I painted is gloss so I may have to wait a few days or more to be able to handle it.

The A-10 is being gloss coated and will need to be cured as well before handling. Then I can decal it.

I have stepped back a bit and picked up the RF-4B to work on.

Depending on which aircraft I model, the tail may need to be black or the rudder will be white.

Now you don't see those often. There was a report in the news a couple of years ago that said the sale of vinyl and record players was actually on the rise, and it wasn't all older people but a lot of youngsters were buying them.

Nice work on both those there Jim.

I got the final colour on the F-16 tonight. I have left it in the shed to dry, so tomorrow I should be able to get some pics before getting the decals on.

Looks good Jim on both of them. And I know what you mean about the Advil- not arthritis yet but modeling sometimes gives me a splitting headache...

My LP collection is sizable as well, but that's only because that's what was available at the time. I didn't like 8-tracks, cassettes were crap and the only other medium was reel to reel and that was for audiophiles. Albums were fun to acquire because the covers were just as interesting as what was inside.

I can remember my first LP purchase. It was Steely Dan's "Can't Buy A Thrill".

Back to modeling, I painted the underside of the f-8 white:

Yes, that's an open bottle of Advil in the background. The arthritis in my wrists is having it's way with me lately.

The white I painted is gloss so I may have to wait a few days or more to be able to handle it.

The A-10 is being gloss coated and will need to be cured as well before handling. Then I can decal it.

I have stepped back a bit and picked up the RF-4B to work on.

Depending on which aircraft I model, the tail may need to be black or the rudder will be white.

Nice work again!  Your attention to detail in 1/72 scale is amazing!  Yes  Yes 

On the subject of LPs, I still remember my first purchase.  It was the second album by the Monkees called "More of the Monkees" back in 1967.  I was 10 years old at the time.  My taste in music changed drastically and quickly though.  In just a couple of years I moved on to Led Zeppelin, then Black Sabbath, and Grand Funk Railroad.
