Looks great Pawel!  I've been putting on decals as well.  I just have the sides of the aircraft left to do and then I'll post some pictures.

A question on the CL MER pylon.

I see pix with the pylon holding the MER to the fuse that seem to have 2 meta straps/bands that go about 1/4 way onto the botto m of the fuse, and some pix without.......what gives??

Also, the wing pylons, some are all grey, some are all green ans some are 1/2 grey 1/2 green.

Was there not a standard, or did they put on what ever they had on the apron at the time?

Theuns, those metal straps were re inforcing bands used to keep the bomb bay doors secure. I do not believe that they were installed on all F-105s. The F-105 had an internal bomb bay that during Vietnam carried a fuel tank instead of it's intended payload of a nuclear bomb.

I wanted to go for a well weathered look so I amtrying to "pre fade" the paint by spraying on random blotches of black and then the tan over that. Hopefully the slightly darker areas will bleed through showing the way that paint fades in "random" areas.

I was quite lucky, I had all the paint , just needed to get the tan :-)

Yes, those colors that you listed are the proper colors for the SEA camo scheme. Very nice work!

Theuns - that paint job is looking good - but I think you were too shy on this one, and if you made the effect more pronounced, you would like it better. Start bold - if you don't like it, you can still cover it in one colour with the final coat (that would be tan in this case). Try to make the preshading  more pronounced, and the top colour more translucent by spraying it lighter. Good luck with the next colors, and have a nice day

I will give it a go, I didnt want it to be to dark as I will still post shade and that will darken the whole thing allot.

If I am not happy I might add light spots by "ghosting" on some clearcoat with a very small amount of white or grey in it, it might also done down the decals a tad to mach the rest of the faded airframe.

Was the inner walls of the intakes white or the same as the bottom color?

Well, I am rather pleased with the results, the blotchy shading did not work, but I will make a plan with ghostingit.

Next to go on will be the bottom grey.

I used model master enamels and they work great! Just a pitty they are not being imported to SA any more :-(

Damn.  I haven't gotten started just yet, but I have been following along from the beginning.  Theuns...I'm literally watching the build I plan to do right in front of my eyes.  Nice going so far.  Just wanted to pop in to mention it.  That SEA scheme is coming along great.  =]

Thanx, I have never been a fan of the Thud, the looks don't do it for me......having said that it is starting to grow on me LOL.

Did the Thuds always have the yellow or white border arround the windshield glass?

The kit supplies a decal for it, but I can not see how this will work and I am really not in the mood to have to mask off the yellow and paint it.

Oh the Thud has her own peculiar charms... like a 1970s vintage muscle car, beefy and mean looking. Then when you read up on her comba exploits in SEA you can not help but love her. That camo looks top notch there Theuns!

As far as the intake windshield framing colors go, I suggest that you do some image searches. I am not well versed enough to answer either question definitively.

Not all Thuds had the yellow windshield sealant. You need to check refs. I'm sure there's pictures of your  particular jet online, as Trumpeter usually picks popular marking options.

Chalk pastel powder applied with a brush.

It will tone down a little with the matt clearcoat.

I used normal paper masking tape for the pattern and "softened" the edges with prestix worms.

Back from vacation, back to work on the Phantom. Got the FS16440 down and the insignia white detail bits, and, the white underbelly. After she sets up overnight, I will clear coat:

Finally finished all the decals.  I have a few touch-ups to do on the tail where the decal didn't quite line up right, and possible another coat of Micro Sol to get the decals to conform to some of the details.  I just wanted to get some pics up since I haven't updated in awhile.

Looks fantastic Bob...getting to the decal phase myself soon.
