Got the painting done and hopefully I can get decals on tomorrow.  Here's how the Hurricane looked wearing the masks for camouflage painting.

Excellent work Wayne! Your weathering is spot on! That looks well used and ready for combat. Nice job! Also, your hand-painted Arabic numbers look as good as decals. Nice!

Sharp looking little tank, wayne.  Nicely weathered.  Sort of looks like a desert insect in the sand.

this is the TRUMPETER KIT. This was fun, one of those that looks bad until the end. the only annoying part of the build was the seam on the halves of the rear external fuel tanks, even a problem in 1/35. the hand rails are a tad thick but, as this was a 48 hour build , i left them. i glued the track together and let them sit overnight. after putting them on i  spread cya over the middle road wheels and wedged soft ear plugs under the fender until they dried. putting it together i noticed places i missed with the painting.

i primed it with ACE HARDWARE gray, my usual primer. i wanted to try VALLEJO AIR again but had a lot of trouble with coverage and airbrush UNTIL I LOOKED AT THE BOTTLE and saw i was using desert sand primer not paint. i did learn multiple mist coats and saw how preshading work. with no clear coat barrier i washed the rod wheels with burnt umber oils. the upper hull and turret got a yellow ochre wash followed by a burnt umber wash. that was followed by some TAMIYA weathering powder. i hand painted arab numbers on the turret with dirty white.

given all the mistakes it turned out nicely. i think i will make a small golan heights base for it, this one is just generic.

Thanks for these pics Wayne. I may just try that green and tan one since I've already seen one with the two-green/brown camo pattern. Just might work. Is there also small strips of black in there too? I might just add those as it seems consistent with the camo pattern I did on the T-90 I built some months ago.

This Apache is going surprisingly fast and without major hassles.

I cut off all the "slabs" andreplaced with streched spru steps. Also added the rod on the bottom of the engine exhausts.

I found some X-tra color "faded US Olive drab andto my eye it looks close enough. it does look a tad more "grey" and lighter in the pix.

I intend to dirty her up allot, so I think the color will look good.

Duke that just looks like a finicky kit but a cool subject. That would be gigantic in 1/35.

Thanks guys! Yeah Checkmate, this certainly isn't something you see every day indeed. I'm so glad to be getting one in my collection.

Thanks Wayne! I'll probably be doing a straight dark green on mine too since I don't really know what camo patterns would go on this. I hope to pick up some colors soon and get it coated.

I saw that TOSXO Models Scud B already. There's another online distributor that already has it available; I just haven't got the money for them yet. I plan on getting two: one to make Soviet, the other Iraqi. I've already seen sprue shots of the TOSXO Scud B; someone on the Missing Lynx Braille Scale Forums bought it already and showed the pics. I can't wait to get it!

well that's annoying DUKE didn't have that problem but screwed up the paint job. may go with straight dark green to get it done and start fresh with second one in travel mode. btw TOSXO over at dragonusaonline has an OTS SCUD that looks interesting.

Thanks, Duke.  Hope to get if finished over the next weekend--at least, before Christmas.

I had to look at the front page to see what it was you're building--I've never seen anything like that before, and it looks really good; very sharp and certainly something ya don't see everyday.

Looking good Checkmate! Keep plugging man, I'm looking forward to seeing this in paint.

Here's my latest progress on my beastie. This thing has been giving me fits. I finally decided to not try anymore to make this look good. Instead, I'm just trying to get it finished!

I finally managed to get all the axles put on (I found out I was missing two!) and then I added all the steering linkages. I'm missing two since they were NOT on the sprue! Seems to me I've had that kind of trouble all throughout this build.

After that, I got the bases to all those side boxes on the main chassis, built the driver's cab, and added some other detail parts:

Next I built the rear fender/launch cradle connection point... (what else would you call it?)

Here it is dry-fit to the rest of the model. The launch cradle snaps on and off right now which is making it easier to build this thing:

Next I added all the boxes to each side of this model and built the second cab:

Here's a couple closeup shots of the main chassis and structures:

This beastie is going to be in launch mode, so here is where I added the 'feet' so that it stands up:

And the other side....

After all that, I finished up the launch tube so it is ready to be added to the launch cradle:

Now this thing is finally ready for paint. Time to warm up the compressor again.

That's all I have for now. Thanks for looking in,.

Got a lot done over the weekend.  Fuselage joined and prop test-fitted.

Wings done and in place.

Getting nearly ready to paint--but now have to work late the next three nights, so won't make much progress till Thursday.

Duke Maddog

Let me know when these other Group Builds start, and possibly send me a link. I know I'd like to get involved in a couple of these; especially the OTS and Railroad Group Builds.

RR will start on 01JAN15. i'll make the home page and update the roster but JIBBER and i  are co-hosting. i have to do a better job of not over committing to these things though i do have a possible 4 GB crossover build. looks like a japanese iv Gb so we cxan do AOSHIMA JGSDF stuff. i still need to finish my footprint base for JGSDF TYPE 61.

I Wayne, will a 1/72 ah 64 Apache (also in ground attack GB) be OK for here?

If so I can post pic of the box top.

Thanx

AND

Wayne, are crossover builds allowed?

I'm going to get working again on those three little vehicles this weekend, but I wanted to enter a 1/72 P-47 in the Weekend Madness GB which does allow crossovers.

YES TO BOTH.. i am working on a OTS (One True Scale) JAGDTIGER and LAV.  probably do a T-55 mine roller or a bundeswehr 6x6 for WEEKEND MADNESS.

assuming i get positive feedback on my first 2 GBs there will probably be an OTS GB in 2015. for armor they are a nice break from big projects and, for some of us, the cool kits aren't done in other scales

Oh man Wayne, you got everything that is currently on my wish list! Way to go! I can't wait until you get started on these.

don't forget the AOSHIMA tank transporter and TYPE 74. I already have the 6c6 but could do one as a UN build. working on 1/72 JAGDTIGER. haven't posted it here as i already have some builds and this is for TANK HUNTERS. trying VALLEJO AV paint. should have it together today.

Thanks Wayne for the heads up on the Dora. I'll go reply over there.

And I agree, 1/72 scale is the "One True Scale"!

oh BITE ME.

of course i say that having just bought the aoshima patriot 3 and looked at JASDF aeroplanes to park next to my tanker truck. and picked up another bundeswehr 6x6 today and will be getting the JGSDF 8x8 "centauro" looking vehicle and the ATOMIC CANNON. not to mention working on a JAGDTIGER and an LAV.

In the one true scale, I got the canopy masked:

Also fixed up the after market propeller, from PJ Productions.  I cut a large hole in the fuselage nose, and my intention is to glue in the assembly using the home built "collar" around the shaft.

And the resin wheels to replace the inadequate kit parts; still need to add another coat of paint to them.

Hey Wayne! I'm glad to hear that my favorite scale has helped you improve so much. Way to go! I doubt that I'll be able to finish my Topol in time though, but I'll still try. ,

as my friend says "the one true scale." no worries. if you start before the end you can finish afterwards and still qualify. no doubt there will be another GB in 2015. awaiting the aoshima ATOMIC CANNon. now to find a modern 1/72 JSDF helo or plan to park my tanker truck next to.

btw there's a guy here asking about DORA.

general discussion DORA

Here's the box:

I sort of stocked up on these before Airfix issued the new-mold Hurricane that Theuns built, so I have plenty to get rid of.

And the parts, detached from the sprues, waiting for clean-up:

I quick painted up the pilot's seat so I could add some masking-tape seat belts asap.  The kit wheels are not good, so I got some after-market resin replacements.
