Thanks for that Archangel S. I don't imagine a fully loaded Phantom with a full load had much range. So, I'll have a look at AM.

May not have much range...but it would look cool wouldn't it

I threw this question up front and I'm pretty much settled with clipping the pylons off the outboard droptanks and attaching the MERs. So, she's gonna have 2 x MERs, 2 x TERs (with 18 Mk.82s). 4 x Sidewinders, 2 x Sparrows and the centreline fuel tank. A real CAS bird.
Can't wait to see that Rob! I'm still debating the loadout for my F-4S. Hard to decide as the S variant didn't see any action, and a missle only loadout to me seems a little boring...
20 November 1943...first true combat test of the amphibious doctrine the Marines developed in the 1930's was tested at the Battle of Tarawa.
Mac, your build has been added to the front page.
I also resized the badges, so Mac feel free to grab one.
Hope everyone is having a good weekend!
So, this will be my last update for awhile. Work and vacation will take me away until 2nd week in Dec. Not getting as much progress on this build as I'd like, but, what can you do.
Here it is fully built less weapons, canopies and landing gear:
MERs and TERs mounted. You can also see the mounting holes for the centreline fuel tank:
MER/TER:
And, my last effort for a bit was a grey overall pre-shade:
That's it for now. Gonna have to box this build until December, and, not sure how much I will get done until the new year. Thanks for lookin'!! Take care for now.
Looks great Rob, those pylons seem pretty detailed for 1/72 and I do like that pre shading.
Are you gonna be able to check in from time to time? Or is it a total absence? Regardless, hope work goes well, and vacation even better!
Here's some progress on a little 2-figure vignette I'm going to do before the M60. I'll post some details a bit later.
Hey Josiah. I'll be back Friday, but, gone for two weeks thereafter.
Got some paint on the figures, will post some pictures later tonight or tomorrow, just wanted to say happy Thanksgiving to everybody, hope y'all are having a good one.
Well here is the general layout....will be making some changes in terms of rate of elevation change and what not but you get the gist of what I'm going for here.
More done on the build today...I probably put it on a bit thick, I'll see how it dries by the time I get back from work in 10 hours.
Hey there guys,
I'm thinking about jumping in on this one. I have a Tamiya F4U-1D for the Marines VMF-214 Black Sheep Squadron, carrier bound. A friend of mine wants me to build it for him and I am nearly ready to begin. I have PE, Ultracast engine and cowling, resin cockpit so far. I have more than enough time to get it done with my other GB's. Anywho, let me know, thanks.
Brandon
On the bench:
A lot !! And I mean A LOT!!
2024 Kits on deck / in process / completed
14 / 5 / 2
Brandon, great choice I'll add you to the roster.
Got that Corsair in my stash and it's a sweet model with lots of details. Tamiya quality at its best.
I will be starting on my old Monogram 1/48 F-4J this coming week.
Too many models to build, not enough time in a lifetime!!

I do love the phantom. One of my all time faves. But, I am limiting myself to only prop planes for now but with Star Wars coming that's likely to go out the window. I may ask for one for X-mas. Can't wait to see yours.

OOoohh can't wait to see that! Especially after seeing what you did with the Academy kit.
Thanks guys. That Monogram is a very old mold but still builds up very nice just as an OOB build. I plan on using some of the left over Academy F-4B's weapons which brought tons of extras.

I've almost completed the base coat and i'm working on the track. This track is different because about 50% of it is completely covered by the side panels, so I think i'm just going to build up what will be exposed. Once the track is finished I'm into final assemble and weathering. Terry

Good looking track Terry, can't wait to see it put together
Got a second coat of spackle put on today. It's almost dry...hopefully it won't need a third, but I'll be putting the base layer of sand on it this weekend hopefully.
As I was working on my Monogram 1/48 F-4J cockpit, I noticed something odd about it. It appears that the cockpit is that of a C/D variant as I compared them and sure enough they are the same. I have to delete the instruments on the right rear cockpit, and add plastic sheet to the area to make it look passable. I also discovered that Monogram did not scribe the Navy style refueling door on the right side of the fuselage and did not delete the USAF style refueling door on the spine. I also need to delete the arrowhead molded detail on the stabilators which were found on the Air force Phantoms.
So much for trying to stay as an OOB build LOL.
Hey PJ, at least you can fix all that yourself with some good old modeling skill! How about the nose gear door, is that the correct Navy style?
Yes the correct door is included as are the longer burners and correct Navy inboard pylons and CL tank.
All relatively easy fixes.
A small update. Got the tub partially done as the right rear console was scraped and sanded smooth to correct the kit's mistake. still have to shoot the grey over the white primer. Still lots of painting to do in this area. The IP's are done and will get some washes as the seats and belts will once they are painted to deepen the details and shadows.

I've assembled and test fit the track on the vehicle then removed it for painting and weathering. Theres also a lot of wheels on this guy but they're finally finished and the body is painted and ready for final assembly. This is a large vehicle and assembling the sides and top will probably be my biggest challenge, everything must fit precisely to keep nice seems. Terry

Sharp looking cockpit you have there PJ
Terry, I do not envy the amount of road wheels you have to deal with
I'm not sure I could have chosen a kit with any more wheels, but they're finally done and I should start putting this together tomorrow. Thanks Josiah.
PJ, I haven't had a lot of time to look around but I'm always in awe of you wing guys with all the detail that goes into a cockpit, nicely done.
Hope your builds are going well PJ and Jibber (and anyone else who is building for this GB currently). I haven't progressed any on the vignette...gonna repaint the figures, the color of the uniform is just too off. Haven't started on the M60 either, that'll come in the new year.
