Alrighty, long progress post after a full day's work.

I've got MOST of the cockpit done, only thing that is done in the cockpit, however, is the IP so I will only post a picture of that as of now.

Next up are the weapons, the kit gives four AIM-4's and a Genie....in my research I found out that the two carried in the front of the weapons bay were AIM-4F's which were radar seeking and the rear two flanking the Genie were AIM-4G's which were IR-guided. The only difference modeling wise that I can think of is the tip is going to be different as seen in this picture. F in the back, G in the front.

Also have the drop tanks done...

And I have the fuselage halves close up...

That's pretty much where I am at now...I don't know if there's anybody else building an F-106 for this build, but I found this website and it has proven helpful and knowledgeable as well as full of interesting stories...

It's always good when you have to use a yardstick to measure your build!

Here is the fuselage and wing tops laying on top of a regular 36" yardstick. My wife saw this and said "oh my...."

Well i suppose you can go ahead and put down a 1/48 Monogram P-51D as my other one, considering i flipped open the lid around 12:30AM EDT. Had some work right out of the box, as its a 1985 boxing, and the fuselage was badly warpped. She's soaking in hot water as we speak. I'll have to download the new photo bucket app tomorrow (new phone) and update ASAP.

I got a whole box of the 'young builders' kits from eBay.  They are the same identical kits. Same paint schemes and decals. I think some of the instruction sheets omit the Monogram logo for some reason.....

2022 New Year's Resolution:  Enter 1 group build and COMPLETE a build this year!!  Why Photobucket did you rob me of my one Group Build Badge???  Must be part of the strong anti-Monogram cartel!!!

Darrin!  That is one of the kits that is on my "Youth" wish list!  Can't see paying what they want for them today when I bought one in the 70's for $25!!!  LOL!  Can't wait to see that big boy come together!

I always thought it was funny having the KC-10's there, but that was at the beginning of the "Composite" wing concept.  Always had the friendly fighting between the fighter jocks and heavy pilots. Gen. Yeager was stationed there!  He was the Wing King when they F-4's.  All kinds of stuff about him in HQ and the squadron rooms.

The lid comes off in the morning!

This is the 1989 release. The box has caught a bit of strife but the innards are perfect.

the Baron

9 hours, 10 minutes to go, here in the East Coast....

Those west of the International Date Line are already in the 4th now... Geeked

AJD, you are added to the roster. I presume that P-39 is the 1/48 Monogram kit? IIRC, Revell also did a 1/72 kit of that bird way back when as well.

Rex, i know what you mean. I thought that I would be all clear of my B-26 project by now and ready to start my Gemini, but life here has been really cutting into my bench time since late May. I suppose wild hair ideas such as wiring up the engines dont help either... I may be with you on the kick off on the 7th or so as well...

Ok guys, for those of us in the USA, we have only a few hours to go... those to the East... well time is relative...

Yeah, Carlos,,,,,,,still chomping at the bit,,,,,,and then Anne told me about our weekend, lol.

Since she is off starting Friday, she has a whole list of things she wants to go to, even our weather has calmed down into the 80's instead of the near 100's from two days ago.

So, I think I will be able to start on Monday. Can you believe that? I wait all this time and then have to wait until the 7th for a GB that starts on the 4th, lol.  I can't wait for her to retire too, then things won't revolve around her work schedule anymore,,,,but, she is a young'un, has about 8 more years to work, approximately.

y'all be safe this weekend

Rex

Oh and does anyone know much about the old Monogram "young builders" kits? Are they the same as the normal kits, just bagged, or are they simplified versions of the original molds? Thanks!

Stik, you can count me in. I know one will be a P-39, the other may be a P-51 or P-61, heck it might even be a TBD. Who knows.
