World at War 1939-1940 Group Build

that's coming along nicely. looks like the gray and lower dark gray/black scheme, eh? we'll work together to lay your own track. make one nice long one and you can photograph all 1/72 on it except DORA.

the wheels are tricky, not something to do tired. i wish tthey had keyways for a more secure vertical attachment

PS i'm still waiting to hear about the HOBBYBOSS T-35 release. or BA-10 although i could do the weird german 3 turret tank which is already in the stash uhmmmmmmmmm?

Now that's would be nice to see the German tank built wayne. Which kit do you have, Dragon, Amusig Hobby or Trump.

An update on my little locomotive. I had a some trouble lining up the wheels and setting them on the rails correctly, but it just took a little patience until I finally got them to sit straight. I also installed the running rails, connecting rods, the rest of the frame, the suspension and other subassemblies. I also built up the boiler, cab and the controls, then test fitted everything in place and set it on the tracks. I'm priming as I go along and I'm very close to attaching it all together and then add all the small parts I left off so I didn't break them during assembly. I did noticed a few things I need to clean up from the photos but this kit by Hobby Boss is a real pleasure to build and I'm still thinking about how I'm going to paint it, Gray/Black or Gray/Black/Red? I'm leaning towards the Gray/Black because that'll show some nice modulation but I have some pictures of one BR86 with red wheels and connecting rods thats very cool.

I meant to adds these photos. The first shows how the wheels set on the rails and the second are the rails and base you have to assemble. The rails slide through built in cleats and align perfectly but just to keep from having a problem, I took the flat part of my #11 blade and scraped away material from the rails so they  would slide though without an issue. 

I did it again, this is the photo that shows how level the wheels actually are.

A lot of pieces and assemblies here, jibber.  Very admirable work!  There's a lot of detail in the kit.

hey BISH mine is the cyber-hobby which i think is not the one deployed in norway. seem to recall reading that. assuming my 2 host GBs aren't a disaster (and no reason to think they are) i may host a 2015 1/72 (have $150 in kits in the queue including ATOMIC CANNON) and am considering a ground launched rocket/missile GB ASAE since the hobbyboss SS-23 is out.

oh and for this GB the T-35 is now out. simultaneous multi-turret builds?

aligning the wheels on the tracks is tricky. and building your own track is another variable.

looking good. the black red is the REICHSBAHN color scheme.

Wayne I like the idea of a ground launched missile GB, looks like we're covering a lot of areas here.

I stopped in my local hardware store that still has a real nice hobby train section and spoke with the owner about building track. He said that rails, cleats, ties and ballast are available and he answered another question I had, in that HO scale is actually 1/87 scale. I tried matching up the Hobby Boss track and theres quite a bit of difference, but building our own shouldn't be to bad. I'm really starting to like these rail kits.

i think we are bat**** crazy but what else is new. i think it could be interesting ATGM, SAM, SSM. probably have to stress ground based. and BISH wants me to build a 3 turret panzer. not to mention you and i even talking about parallel DORAs.

I couldn't say it any clearer.

HO rails are good enough for 1/72 and 99.9% of folks won't know germans didn't spike their track. 3/16" wide basswood strips are good for ties.. i superglue my rails down. definitely have to build a rail gauge for 1/72 and 1/35

The tender is built up and some very fragile hand rails were added to the cab and the tender. All parts are now primed and ready for some assembly and paint. 

Terry, that's coming along great. How far will you go before painting.

O yes, I forgot about that kit. I haven't really looked into it, I just thought it might be the same as the dragon kit, but I guess there must be some difference. I am planning on getting the Amusing Hobby version.

A ground launched missile GB sounds good, but I hope you will wait a while, there is a limit on how many GB's I can be in

Bish I'm going to start painting each section in a couple days, then some detail work before final assembly. Then theres another question, how much to weather? It's always something...

Ye, that sounds like a good idea terry. Now weathering, that's a good point. I would not imagine any mud or much dust. Not sure about soot. Some chipping on any areas people might step on and some rain streaks maybe. I have seen some completed trains on here but no WiP's.

Wayne, haven't you done some trains.

I just noticed I made a mistake. I wish I knew how to draw circles on pictures but there are 2 tool boxes  under the back of the cab to the rear that I placed in a vertical position. These should be horizontal under the cab on both sides. I corrected the mistake, no biggie.

Bish I've been studying a lot of 86 and 52 German Locomotives. Certainly theres a lot of grease and dirt, some rust in spots and maybe some chipping. I don't think I'll do to much of anything, just see how it looks as the layers go on. I wish there were more detail in the cab but I'll just have to deal with whats in the kit.

I have a Revell 2-8-8-2 Big Boy on the Figures and Misc forum. If you're looking for weathering ideas. 

MC thats a real nice build I wish you had a few close ups. It doesn't show much if any weathering. Terry
