The variations on the paint and the weathering are very effective, jibber. Looking better all the time!
Lt I'm working at it. That was a dumb mistake putting the ladders on upside down, I should have known better. I should be done here in a day or two, just final assembly, touch ups and a little dusting. Thanks
Man that is such a cool train! I recall the old steam locos (still working by 1970's here in SA) rumbling past my grans house, literally no more than 50' away :-)
Does the track come with the train?? I have never built one but I think it is time now...
he Hurricaine's decals are all stock kit ones, I just bedded them into future. No solvents were used to soften them.
The canopy masking worked about 60% ok, I had to touch up the rest by hand. I was to lazy to mask the camo so I sprayed on the dark earth and brushed on the darg green.
Theuns
Theuns the piece of track I have in the photos comes with it and can be painted any way you prefer I just chose to place a 1/72 Tiger Tank on for effect, so why don't you build one? As a matter of fact Waynec and I have an announcement any day on something new to GB's you may find interesting.
SOuns interesting, I will be watching closely for your GB anouncement :-)
Theuns, you did an exceptional job hand-brushing the dark green; it looks smooth enough to have been sprayed on.

This was the part I was dreading but Hobby Boss has engineered a great kit with tight tolerances and everything went together perfectly. I glued everything in place and used a little tape to hold the Tender to the main body. I think I'll let that set and start on the left side later. I think all the washes is really starting to show. WOW Terry, that's looking really nice. I really like the subtle weathering.
I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so
On the bench: Airfix 1/72nd Harrier GR.3/Fujimi 1/72nd Ju 87D-3
Looks really good Terry!
On my bench: Academy 1/35 UH-60L Black Hawk
That really does look great, Terry. Nice work with the weathering. Very appealing presentation!
Thanx for the compiment, it is really simple to get smooth. Thin pain with a soft brush, then a coat of future brushed on to bind it all. The a sanding with 8000 micromesh to get it to a relative smooth surface :-)
The more I look at that Loco, the more I start to miss one in my collection ;-)
Just wonder how more complex they build than a regular 1/72 Jet for example??
There is just no medcine for stupidity!
I was taking pix of the Hurricaine outside for the good light, a gust blew my backgroung over crushing the model :-( The undercart broke off, the whole canopt came loose....
I just glued every bit back and found that a semi decent model has been turned into something religated to the very back of the display case...ah well these things happen.
As you can see the canopy fit now is not that grate anymore.
All humbrol enamels with alclad falt clearcoat over the top.
Battle damage...
Theuns - despite that setback, the Hurricane turned out great. Terrific work with the brush too, with those closeups still looks like a mask and airbrush finish.
The b/w undersides are really a different look, hope to do mine like that some day.
regards,
Jack
Lesson learned boys and girls....always secure the background stand!
Terry - I really like your locomotive! Very unusual subject!
Theuns - sweet looking Hurricane! Nice looking camo!
Steve
Sanderson thanks, I'm telling anyone who'll listen this was a lot of fun and they make a nice display on the shelf.
It still looks great, Theuns. No need to put it on the back of the shelf, I think. Very well done, and an excellent result with the painting; you did a good job dividing up the black and white on the underside--nice straight lines!
Whatever damage was done is not obvious to my eye in the photos. Lovely little Hurricane!
Do you have a preference for the photo on the front page? I kind of like the first one best.
Thanx, I am happy with the first one aswell :-)
Maybe I will have better luck with the BF 110....
Front page is updated with your Hurricane, Theuns. I look forward to seeing the 110! Thanks for your participation.
Hurricane looks good Theuns, despite the little accident. I do like that black and white underside.

The thin plastic boiler support warped a bit so I had to hit it with a clip and some CA, finally I got it set. It's not perfectly in place but I couldn't move it any more without dislodging other connections. I also made some coal pieces from very small pebbles and some Testors semi gloss black spray paint that gave it a little sheen. I'll give it some time then I'll finish up with my last two parts. I noticed on the last picture that you can see the foot rail and steps under the cab that I had trouble with on the other side. This side went in perfectly. I still need a little weathering on the steps all around then finished.

photographs are great for catching boggers that will be missed by the naked eye, either because you are too close to the subject or don't know anything about it.
i think your coal might be too big for the scale. you would be better off getting HO scale coal/ black ballast for 1/72 and O scale for 1/35. those are the railroad sizes i use for coal, rail ballast and the like. fortunately, in addition to a great LHS, COLPAR, we have a great train store CABOOSE HOBBIES.

Boy looking at it you're right, I picked the smallest pieces of stuff I could find but I do have a little gray ballast here to work with. Thanks and I'll ck out those sites. It's a good thing I didn't spend weeks on an interior, it barely shows with or without a camera. 1/35 should be different. The camera does catch things I've missed, I try to screen them before posting but somethings still get by.

i missed weathering the entire side of a 1/35 KV-2 and that's a big turret. looking forward to the weathering on this.
Still a great looking locomotive, jibber. Coming along very nicely. At least in the photos, I'm not seeing the troublesome spot.
I used to do some HO railroading, but gave it up twenty years ago. I remember I did have some scale "coal" that looked pretty good. Wm K Walthers was the big model RR supplier in those days.
I sprayed some dark gray ballast black and that turned out to be less than half the size of what I had. Now I'm right.

This was a fun build of a historic train and I would recommend doing a locomotive to anyone who wants to try something different. Hobby Boss engineered a great kit and for under $30, a lot of value for the money. If you need any other photos let me know, and thanks. Terry

You're welcome, Terry. A great build and a great addition to the group. Absolutely fantastic and a subject you certainly don't see much of.
Which of the photos would you like published on the front page? I kind of like the last one, since it shows the whole loco to good advantage--but the choice is yours!
