2015 Messerschmitt Bf 109 Group Build

Now that's something, would be great if they could put the correct engines in these, maybe use the Merlin's as spares for the flying spits. So if this guys got given all those 109's for his work in the movie, where are the rest.

Glad you're better. I look forward to seeing your eduard builds. I've heard mixed reviews on the g and it will be nice to see if they're decent. I wouldnt mind branching off my usual 1/32 to do a 1/48, er 1/47!

I've seen some completed builds of Eduard's Gustav - they really do look great.  Only construction problems might be if you want to add after market products/ decals that are dedicated to 1/48, they might not fit or look right?

I actually don't think the Eduard Gustavs are overscale. Everything seems to be sized about right with the wings simply being too long.

Dimensional issues aside (and I personally never would've noticed the oversized wingspan) the kit looks great. I didn't start on mine yet (gonna have to wait for this GB to kick off), but the amount of details Eduard packed into those kits is simply stunning. Especially the surface details look amazing. There's also plenty of options, including the tall tail and Erla canopy.

I know there are modellers who regard the long wings as too much of an issue and I completely understand and respect that, but I only really mind dimensional issues if I notice them without holding a ruler next to my models...

Ok guys. I had a little chat with Joe about the mugs and how we're gonna do it basically depends on what you guys want.

We got three mug designs for you lot to choose from:

The first one is Jack's GB badge:

The second one also comes from Jack and it's a simplified design of the badge that might be more suitable for a mug:

And as a third option we have my approach of the whole mug idea:

So which one of those would you guys prefer? I don't really like the idea of having more than one official mug design for this GB and I don't think Joe would like it either, so if we could narrow it down to one of them that would be great.
If you choose one of Jack's designs, I'd simply post it on the front page for everyone to dowload and send to your favorite printing service.
In case you prefer my design, I'd send everyone of you (as well as everyone joining us in the future) a PM with your own mug design including your name below the Emil.

Its a tough choice between the 2nd and 3rd. I think the 3rd one just scraps it.

I like both the first and third designs.  I never would have thought about having a mug printed up. Now I want one.

I have my Bf 109D in and now just have to get the aftermarket goodies for it.  I can't wait to get started.

I'm going with the last one. It would be nice to have an inset yellow line border on it? So, screen name and then pilot name of build on the other side?

I'll jump in on this .I've never done any any German aircraft before. I just picked up a few kits on Ebay, so this sounds like fun. I'll do a old 1/48 Hobbyrcraft G2.

Hey guys jubya70 here. I would like to join in on this GB. I'm totally new to this. I have a Monogram 1/48 Kit. It is twenty plus years old. I started to paint it by hand, I don’t like the way it looks. I would like to repaint. I also have cockpit photo etch parts. I have never worked with the brass. My decals are old and I don’t know if they will work. I think they represent Jg300 but not sure. I know my kit small and not loaded with detail but since I'm new I don’t think starting small hurts.  I could use all the help I can get. I do thank you. Happy Thanksgiving. Hey Clemens and Joe, I'd like to get in on this GB.  Of course it will be after I finish the Hellcat and F-107 for the other GB's I'm in.  I have a couple kits to choose from (pic below).  I've never built a 1/32 scale kit before, or a 109 for that matter.  So I'm leaning toward the E-7.  I don't have any fancy pants after markets stuff for it like I do for the G-6.  At least not yet.  I like the idea of getting involved with this build since it looks like there are a lot of experienced models signed up.  So I'm sure there will be a lot of good advice available like in the Pacific Carrier Aviation GB.  This build will also motivate my to finish the other planes so I can join in here.  Thanks.

Nope, never. I have been buying them for the last couple of years, just a small select collection, but not had the chance to build one yet. I am normally a 72nd builder, so will be a little bit of a change.

Looks like it's going to be the 3rd design. Give me a couple of days to get one made for everyone. I'll send off the PMs with the designs as soon as I get em all done.

Welcome Jubya... Age of kit isnt a problem, The Kit I intend to start with is 37 yrs old. Its an old Matchbox 1/32 kit, and I just love them! There are some glaring inaccuracies in the kit dimensions and such, but nothing that cant be over come with a bit of skill and patience. Glad your here and get on a photo sharing site lick photo bucket or flickr and sonmeone here (Jack comes to mind, lol) can walk you through the process.

The cockpit looks pretty sparse. I'm going to try my hand at improving it a tad by scratch. This is going to be a learning experience for me as I try several new things.

I do believe I will invest in some seat belts though as there are none, and I don't really have the patience to scratch them up.

jubya70: Don't worry about how old the kit is as Doug said. Old or new , there's plenty of help from alot of knowledge here. As my good buddy Bish said, go to www.photobucket.com and sign up for a free account. After you've done that we'll go from there and welcome to the Bf109 GB.

flyerduke...aka Craig: It'll be awesome having you in here and looking forward to both builds. I've built a 1/48 Hasegawa before and they turn out pretty good. There is an aftermarket correct size spinner available for them as the OOB one is pretty big.

lamRaider: I love watching scratch building as I learn new tricks every day and seat belts are almost a requirement now especially with an opened canopy.

Everybody: Well its almost a month away and we're off to a good start here. Now all we gotta do is wait..............................um...................just a few more weeks............................
