Aerobatics/Precision Team Group Build 2015

MC and  Jgeratic thanks for the compliments. the Siskin stands out in the all the listed builds in a good way, I like it !

Here is where i am with the hornet.

I used some of the random brass pieces I have to construct the radio bay behind the cockpit. Since I have not been able to find a good pic of what is supposed to be back there I just pieced together what i could from some vague photos I found.

Here is the arangement 

I still have some bits to add to it.

I cut the rudders out so I could pose them in the takeoff config

B_one - great start on yours.  Have to say, everyone that has posted images of their proposed subjects, they are quite colourful.

My Siskin will look pretty blasé in comparison.  Anyhow, here is a shot of the contents.  Typical of Matchbox of that time, the plastic is provided in two colours, plus a clear part for the window screen.  I'll probably cut my own out out of clear film, as the one provided is about half a foot scale thick.

The cockpit is very sparse (not even a control stick nor IP), but this is offset with an actual pilot provided.  I did do some scratch building in the office, but most of it is hidden by the figure.  Some plastic card was placed as a bulkhead covering at the rear of the pilot, which is the only item left to touch up in that area, now that the fuselage sides are joined.

I've never had the guts to go cutting things out. I have always slipped with the knife make a mess of things.

Well I got started lastnight on the Blue angel f/a-18. I got the cockpit mostly done, I cut out the avionics bay screen behind the pilot seat and built an avionics bay for it. i am still working on the boxes and wires that go in there. 

I also removed the flaps and slats so I could drop them. In the end she will be posed in takeoff config. Thats about it for now.

Thanks black sheep, I acquired three of these kits from a collection I purchased. Its 1/48 scale and when I bought them it was the first time I seen that combo kit too.

Wow B_one fixer! I've never seen that kit before. Is that 1/48 scale? Nice score!

This is the site I got inspired to build something out of the ordinary when it comes to aerobatic teams - especially foreign aerobatic/precision teams in both military and civilian.

I had no  idea there were aerobatic teams that early. Barnstormers yes, but not aerobatic teams.

Didn't think was going to join this one, but by chance, discovered I do have something in the stash.  It's an old Matchbox kit of the Siskin in 1/72 scale.

Turns out a trio of these made up Canada's first aerobatic team, flying from 1929 til 1932.

I'm looking at doing possibly 2, maybe 3 different aerobatic team jet kits.

A definite will be a Soviet Mig-19 Aerobatic Team jet (Post War Aerobatic Team) - 1/48 scale

The second (and third) are still undecided at this time. My choices are of the following:

The Black Diamonds (US) either the Mig-17 or the L-39 (1/72 for the  L-39. 1/48 for the  Mig-17)

Korea's Black Eagles Aerobatic Team jet (1/72)

Finland's Midnight Hawks Aerobatic Team jet (1/72 or 1/48 scale)

UK's Red Arrows jet (1/72 scale)

Cool!  I was wondering if a GB like this would show up.  I'd like to join in.  I have three old kits to choose from.  I'll make up my mind in a month or two.  Not sure when I'll be able to start though.  The end of June time frame may be pushing it since I'm already committed to three other GB's.  I'll give it a shot though.

Whoa Black Sheep, you totally changed posts on me. Don't forget my Kawasaki T-4 Blue Impulse of the JASDF.

I'm game put me down for a 1/48 blue angel F/A-18 and a T-bird 1/48 F-16. Both are the Revell kits.

I'd like to join up.  A Blue Angel of some sort in 1/72.
