Just glued wings, gears and rear engine subassemblies

First impression on the kit are good, nicely engraved panel lines but few details in the cockpit, IP are correct but some structure and replace seats are needed.

Hi Bsyamato,

It is hard to keep up with you!  You are a building machine!  Smile  Nice looking kit you have there.  I am sure I will enjoy watching you build this along with the others currently on your bench.

Gamera

Shes coming along great Byamato, I love the first photo where I can see all the extra stuff you added to the cockpit.

I put the treads on the Type 74 this weekend. Instead of using wire pins to hold the tracks down I just cemented them to the road wheels since they weren't very stiff. The yellow sandpaper rolls are in there to hold them in place as the cement dries.

Hi Cliff,

Good job on the tracks!  They look nice.  I have never built any armor, but from watching you and several others build them I have gathered that the tracks can be quite challenging!

Well done with the IP Ken

Thanx for comments guys :)

weekend updates:

On the kate, painted the black (mixed with dark blue) on the nose and painted another layer of light grey/green in the bottom

Also primed the propeller and finished with the black on the cowling but no pictures

On the rufe retouched the grey delimitations

even on the rufe painted or primed other detail parts but no pictures.

Soon will start the Ki-55 too :D

Great job mixing colors and painting Bsyamato!  Looks wonderful.

Bsyamato: Wow that's some intense yellow, I'd hate to try to paint that white or light grey and get a good coat of paint to cover that! Very cool model though, much as I love Zeros it's nice to see something different too!

Goldhammer: Well six bucks and postage isn't too bad. I've made much more expensive mistakes! Hopefully you'll have the new canopy and be back at it in no time.

Well, good news / semi bad news.  Have to get the complete clear sprue, and is in stock and on the way....bad news, I owned up to screwing it up on my own and no fault of Tamiya and gave them a card number for it.  $6 and change + postage.  So all in all not too bad of a hit for my stupidity.  I put in the panel with white glue and then ran a toothpick of the no fog CA to reinforce it on the inside.  Too much and it pooled up and bit me.

Goldhammer: Good luck there with Tamiya customer service and the vets home. I know what you mean about masking canopies, I've pulled out a few kits and then slid them back into the stash since I didn't feel like masking some insanely intricate clear parts.

Ken: The IP is looking great there, looking forward to seeing the rest of the cockpit come together.

Hi Everyone,

Tonight I cut all the parts from the sprue that I had air brushed earlier, smoothed the cut area on the parts, then touched up the paint.  Nothing really worth taking pictures of.  I did screw up and painted the control stick green instead of aluminum, so I will have to wait for the paint to dry and fix that.

Hi Everyone,

Small task completed on my Zero.  Put a drop of Future on each of the dials on the front instrument panel.  Just going to let it dry overnight.

Started putting the mask on the glass.  Man, tates I can sympathize with you now.  Doubt I will have any hair left by the time they are all done, with my 12 thumbs.   Got the wings, nacelles, flaps, stabs and fin ready to install and the fuse filled and sanded.  Screwed up gluing in the removable panel in the main canopy, but am going to let it go. (too much CA (non-fogging ) and it bit around the edge of the panel.   Wings and things by next w/e hopefully.  Still deciding on resin bulged tires or not.  Have the SAC gear to clean up yet.

***EDIT***   Going to give Tamiya a call Monday and see if I can get another canopy or clear sprue.  decided I can't let her go.  Want to see if our new vets home (150 beds) might want my WWII and "Nam builds, and better have a decent roof on her.

Hi Art,

I have to agree, there is a LOT of glass on that kit!  For sure a masking nightmare!

I would think Tamiya would be willing to help you out.  I know Revell has always helped out in those kind of situations.

Let us know what the response is from the Vets home.

Ken, IP looks awesome.

bsy-  glad someone brought Katey to the party, would not be the same without her.  Nicely done so far.

Thank you Art!  After I put the Future on the dial faces, I will be ready to start putting the cockpit together.

Ken: Looks good, I love those multipart instrument panels-they look so much better than the single piece ones and decals.

Bsyamato: Always love to see your scratch-building detail parts. I need to get some lower detail kits and learn how to do that myself.

Thank you Cliff!  The next step will be to put a drop of Future on each of the dial faces to simulate a glass look.  That will make it "pop".

Hi Everyone!

I spent some quality time at the workbench today!  It was all about the front instrument panel.  First I started out scraping the paint off of the plastic where the photo etch is to attach:

The rest of the pictures show the gradual process of each piece of photo etch being attached:

well she fought me all the way but it's together. Dry fit the wings just to see what she looks like

Looking good Tates!  Wow, with the wings it certainly looks a LOT bigger!  It looks like is should have 4 engines instead of just 2.

Brandon,

I have to say, that you A6M3, is as fine a model as any I've seen.  You did an excellent job building her, and I for one, would LOVE to see more of your builds here.  I think that all of us here in this GB would feel the same way.

That being said, grab a kit, get your glue and get busy sir!!  :)

Regards

Freddie

Everyone, I really appreciate all the kind words for the Zero. I really took it hard when the Flory didn't come off as hoped. It kinda crushed the build for me. Your words have inspired me to believe that perhaps it isn't as bad as I thought. Thank you all. Big Smile

Ken, thanks, lost her in Sept., Jan 7th would have been 27 years.  I think there is a chapter in Salem or Portland.  The LHS in Albany has a get together on Thursday nights, but have not got over there yet.

Some more in progress from tonight:
