So last nite before bed I was looking thru my laptops photo library, nd low and behold the "missing" photos had loaded into the main portion, rather than into a sub folder as they had been doing... so I edited them, uploaded them to PB, and went to sleep....

the final cockpit photos before I closed it up

wings and tailplane glued on

bomb shackle attachment lug (taken off of a Panzer III roadwheel arm). I also drilled away the kit front sight post for replacement with some styrene rod

canopy masked and glued in place

styrene shim for gap filling, sanded to match the sourrounding area

new front sight post added

rocket motor nozzles, and control surface balance horns (not bad small details for a 50+ year old kit)

base paint coat on, Tamiya IJN Gray Green

and after this I did the Future coat and decals that were in the photos in the post before this... The Cherry Blossom decal is from the kit, but the ID numbers shattered, so I took some IJN tail code decals and cut off the 1st prefix letter and last suffix number to make a replacement set...

so the post above is how the kit looks this morning.

Glad to see you found the other photos. Very cool, even with the added detail looks like you're going to make the Weekend Build end date. Looking forward to seeing her all finished up.

Yes, if I did not have to work today, it would be all done. I will have it completed by Friday. I only have two mornings before work before then to have any time to work on this.

Finally done this build, a little story about this build. Everything was going good until I did the wash, I screwed that up pretty good so I walked away from this build for a while. Once I decided to come back to it I realized my cat stole one of my engines. I finally found the missing engine, and fixed this up as best I could. It's not great but I still consider myself a noob. Enjoy

Hey Tates she looks good to me in the photos. And I think we've all had the same problems with missing part, I couldn't find the front idler wheel to a T-62 I've been trying to complete for over a month and then found it inside the box with my Dremel tool. How it got there I have no clue. The camo looks good and you did a great job on the canopies which always scare me off from stuff like this.

Do you want me to go ahead and post to the front page or did you want to take some more photos?

Tates, looks to be a great build, glad you came back to finish her.  Yes

You should try a few photos without all that clutter in the background.  That will help the camera to better focus on the main subject, giving sharper results.

Jack

John: Looks really good there! But I bet you took more than a weekend right? Wink

Heck, it takes me a weekend to pull the cellophane off the box!

As for me, work and family events have been piling up one after another here, so I am nickle and diming the final touches when I get a half hour or so here and there to do things...

so here are my updates on the Ohka

crosshairs made from stretched sprue and added to pilots ring sight, then painted

Promodeller wash added (with and without warhead aerodynamic cowling)

wash removed...

pitot tip drilled out and steel wire end piece added

warhead tip drilled out and steel wire fuse plunger added

rocket motor nozzles needed a bit of super gluing for proper placement

and how it looks overall now ready for final flat coat

hopefully in the next few days I will have free time and non rainy weather to airbrush on the flat coat, add the ring sight, and take off the canopy masking...

I know what you mean, sometimes it seems like that last tiny hump at the end is the longest to get over, lookin' good so far.

And that is all it is... roughly an hours worth of work or so... glue 1 piece on, airbrush on a top coat, let it dry to touch and take off the masks...

Got the bi-plane back on the bench.  I got caught up building two 72nd scalers after ordering some rigging line for this one.

1. - sewing needle

2. - EZ line fine rigging

3. - Uschi standard 0.03mm

Upper wing is now attached.  Just need to touch up the strut points, and likely tackle weathering before adding the wires.

Jack

So the other nite before starting the holiday activities, I was able to get a few minutes free to add the pilot's ring sight in place and get some photos taken...

then this afternoon I finally applied the flat topcoat- a mixture of Future with Tamiya Flat Base at a 7 to 3 ratio. Which ended up giving a nice weather beaten apperance that gave a look like several Ohkas the were captured on Okinawa had...

then I gave to topcoat plenty of time to dry before removing the masks... pictures to come in a few...

Really nice work there! Proof that even older models like that can build up nicely with a little TLC and scratchbuilding. Sorry you missed the weekend build but glad to have you here. I'll see about getting you posted tomorrow.

Thanks Gamera. This really is a neat little kit with a lot of potential. I think that I will start the Part V build a little earlier in the year...Hmm

Stik, nice job on that, would never of thought it was a 50 year old kit.  Great skills there on your part. Yes

I'm still plugging away on my Nakajima bipe, and should make the finish line in time.

Gamera ya never know, Jack may just get that bipe in on time. Thanks for letting me particiapte here.

Thank you Jack. This kit is at least 50 years old, probably more. It has all the proper shapes and some surprising fine petite details in spots. With some polishing and improvising it can really be made into a looker.

Jack, it would be nice to have you finish us off (hint, nudge, wink)...

And I do like your Christmas greeting, I'll reply with my own little elf (a little late)- I hope the mods don't bust my tail for this... Angel

I think the elf pic is fine, something like that could be used for next year's GB badge?

Doubt the mod's would mind that one. If they did, they would of hammered me already for my Xmas pinup, and I had it up last year too when we were waiting for the 109 GB to kick off.

--------------

Anywho, I got the rigging completed tonight.  Looks good, but unfortunately the Uschi product has the same problem as EZ line in that you can see some flatness to the line.

regards,

Jack

Right, calling her done.  Not as a refined finish as some of my other builds, but that sometimes happens with a resin kit.  Worst culprit was the Alclad black gloss, which I'm sure is one of those bad batches that I have on my hands.  Never fully cured, even after three months, and caused all kinds of problems wherever I was holding it while at the bench.

Anyhow, to recap, this Choroszy's  1/72 NAKAJIMA A4N1.   Both the instructions and some online sources indicate these particular markings are for a Lt. Minoru Suzuki aboard the Carrier RYUJO, August 1937.  Another simply says wingman, or PO1c Yukiharu Ozeki of the 12th Air Group in China.

Also known as the Type 95 carrier fighter, these biplanes aboard RYUJO would have a brief but successful career on the front-lines.  There were twelve A4N1 units (plus four spares) aboard while conducting operations against China during August and September 1937.  Online literature gives a total of 26, with one probable, enemy shot down at this period and no losses.  Leaving for home early in November, RYUJO replaced it's A4N1 with the Claude in February of the following year.

The A4N1 would continue to fly, as some were left in China to support land troops via tactical reconnaissance and close support with two 60 kg bombs, as well as base defense.  On home land they were utilized for training, and at war's end, some were also pressed into the kamikaze attack role.

---------------------------------------------------

... and couple shots comparison with the Claude, it's successor:

Looks fantastic Jack. The rigging looks perfect, great job all around! I'm not sure I could have gotten the rigging that straight with a 1/32nd kit, how you did it in 1/72nd boogles my mind.

I'm off to post you to the front page now, anyone else slipping in at the eleventh hour??? Wink
