ps. thanks for comments on the resin Nakajima.  I've continued with the brass pins and  have the lower wings and tails planes set in place.  Will post some more progress soon.

Jack: I think so, TC's chopper looked like a Hughes 500 which is a civilian version of the MC 500. I remember one or more of these with a fake gun strapped to one skid and a rocket launcher strapped to the other showed up in about half the episodes of Airwolf too!

Waynec i think is not hard to find minigun for the mh-6 version, probably a spooky ac-47 or other gunships can be good donor, for the japanse version , probably i left some perfect mods ,  because jsdf OH-6 seems have probably the shorter version of gears and some minor mods.. 

Jack i had the same idea about the Magnum PI version of the h-500, the kit could easily used for the civil version .. i need just to find another copy of the kit, also i have a wessex from matchbox that i will use for riptide pink S-58T

Can't believe a month has passed since my last update.  Figured I'd be finished by now, but only have made it to the primer stage.

I'll let the photographs do the talking, but you will notice the build is peppered with the sculpting putty known as Green Stuff.  Used it everywhere, from seams to fixing details and even scratch building.

Hey Jack, not sure what plane that is, but I'm guessing it is a trainer of some type?  Good progress so far, is that a limited run kit?

Bsyamato - great effort on your CH-46 conversion!!  you must be crazy to put all those gauge backs and wires on each instrument...Wow!! I agree with you on the troop seats in the main cargo area....that's pretty poor representation of the tube frames and mesh seats.....It wouldn't be impossible to fix them but it would be very tedious.  But if anyone is up for the challenge, it would be you!!

Coming back through Tennessee from Alabama, I happened upon a HobbyTown USA in Knoxville and happened upon some choice kits on sale for 75% off!!! I about passed out thinking that it was too good to be true.  Among the scores were two Japanese subjects: a Dragon 1/35th scale Type 95 light tank "Ha-Go" (Late Production) and a Hasegawa 1/48th scale Nakajima Ki43-III Hayabusa (Oscar). Both retail at $50 or more and I got them both for around $10 to $13 apiece.!!!!  I ended up walking out with a total of about $400 worth of kits for $106!!!

Yes, this is a resin model, so I'd consider it falls under the short run category.   The Nakajima A4N1 was an interwar biplane specifically ordered for carrier use, and would be the last biplane design.   It's successor being the Claude, which in turn would be replaced by the Zero.   In 1941, it still could be found serving on 2nd rate carriers, and would also continue in the training role.

The Hasegawa Ki-43 is a great little kit, simple but nicely detailed with great fit and no issues. I've got two of the Finemolds Type 95s but haven't picked up the newer Dragon kit yet. Sounds like a winner though. 

Jack, I haven't seen any records of such but I'm wondering if any ended up used as kamikaze attackers since by the end of the war lots of older types that would have a hard time surviving in a combat situation were being thrown out on one-way missions. 

Very likely on the kamikaze mission.  The few entries I've read about the A4N1 on net do mention this fact, but no numbers, dates or successes provided.

Thanks for the info.  I was curious because the plane resembles a bi-wing float plane trainer called the "Dave" manufactured by Kawashini (sp?) or something like that. My great uncle was killed on the deck of the USS Morrison, DD 560, by a similar aircraft.  It skimmed along the water, below radar and attacked the rear of the ship near my great uncle Gil's AA machinegun mount.  I'm still trying to locate a kit of that plane.....

Thanks Jack, I figured as much. I'd read that the Japanese were even fitting up trainers with bombs to hit the Allied invasion fleet that never came.

BTW the Japanese movie 'The Eternal Zero' (awesome movie!!!) has a great scene of two of the major characters in  Zero model 51s escorting kamikaze Zero model 21s though a swarm of Hellcats into the USN fleet.

Hey Dave, seems I missed your next to late post there. That sucks about your great uncle, one of my uncles served on a LST but was lucky to make it though the war. 

I had to look it up but 'Dave' corresponds to a Nakajima E8N. Hasegawa seems to have a kit available in 1/48th- link here to HLJ.

I'm intending to run a Japanese GB V so if you want you can aways enter in that one. I'm thinking of taking a break after number 5 though! 

BTW: lemme throw up the trailer for 'The Eternal Zero'...

Dave, np about the info.  Sorry to read what happened to your great uncle, but building  the Nakajima E8N would be a fine tribute to his memory.  Cliff has you set up nicely with the link to the Hasegawa kit.  Just recently released, new tool and all, looks to be the only game in town at 1/48 scale.

Excellent build Jack :) i think that with a similar kit just break all pieces

Had a little mishap during the primer stage.  While spraying the model, it slipped off the wooden dowl I had inserted at the front to act as a hand hold .  The fall wasn't even a foot, but it was enough of an impact to knock the top wing off.  Took this as I sign to keep painting unattached.

Did two coats of Tamiya surface primer, followed by three with Alcad II gloss black base - as suggested for metallic finishes.  Each of these coats was followed with some further putty and sanding, and I was still getting some stubborn seams and dimples. 

So instead of going back with pure primer, I mixed in a little Alcad's black, and this is what you see in this update photo.  Hopeful one last sanding, another gloss black coat and then to the metallic colours.

Ouch that blows Jack, glad to hear though she didn't fall any further though!

Sounds really cool, looking forward to seeing her all painted up. I find short run kits enough problems to get a smooth finish without them having to be metallic perfect.

Unfreezed the Peggy and the Kate this weekend :)

I mixed up a japanese light grey green (i use a 147 grey with a small percentage of 78 interior green humbrol) and three layers done between two days. Also , as the grey mix dry rapidly i mixed an homemade kakhi color for upper surfaces, first strike lightly then i corrected the mix (a total of 5/6 colors used starting from 155 oluive drab  ) and the mixture is good from last saturnday and works again!!

They look great as usual Bsyamato! I have to tell you again I love how you pre-shade using a brush, I still can't get over how you do this. And those crazy canopies- so much work!
