Hey Simpilot those are awesome! I've been reading about extreme weathering techniques and being inspired by Modelcrazy's Mushashi I'm so tempted to try something like an abandoned wreck like that! And I do have two Type 95s in my stash!

i see i don't have a build listed. i will be doing an OTS Aoshima JGSDF fuel truck since i have never done an Aoshima kit. Assuming that goes well i will do the OTS JGSDF Patriot on the Isuzu 73 semi.

Hammer I look forward to seeing your entry complete! will be very nice to see as I don't think I have ever seen anyone do that scheme before.

Gam would love to see you do something like that! Preferably just the one on the trailer with grass growing on it, BUT if you really wanted to pull out all the stops, the destroyed one would be an awesome challenge!

Wayne hope you get onto them! Look forward to seeing your work!

Ok Gam I am getting itchy now lol! If I do commit, it will be where I left off on my Kawanishi E7K1 Alf. It may look like its over 50% but 1/72s go together quickly. Will be fully rigged and colourful. It's primed now, haven't gotten any recent pics lately.

Hey guys those both sound cool, I'll put ya'll down for them right now.

Simpilot: Yeah the rusty 95 would be a lot less work, I don't think there's an interior kit for them so I'd have to scratch-build the engine and fighting compartment for the busted-up one. Would you mind if I copied your photos for future reference in case I ever get around to trying to do this?

i do a lot of warwheels and \trucks in 1/35. this is my first truck  in OTS. i got it to practice on Aoshima before getting others which, of course, did not work out as planned as i stare at my Aoshima OTS  stash which includes a PATRIOT, TANK TRANSPORTER, 2 TYPE 74s, and the 8x8 AFV. OTOH i could build an OTS JASDF aeroplane to park next to my tanker. Plus an annual local is coming up and i have done quite well in this scale.

plastic one piece wheels which are hollow on the inside as are the bottoms of vehicle cargo boxes. wouldn't bee seen on a base but i will fill them in. shouldn't be all that bad. it isn't camouflaged so that's good. i have Tamiya JSGSDF OD but will look for an MMA or Vallejo match so i can brush touch up easier.

By all means Gam!! That's why I posted them for reference :) Went on a boony stomp with some friends while I was there and saw some metal structures amongst some trees that just didn't belong, unfortunately I didn't have my camera with me on that day. Yes, there were some obvious torn edges and wasn't rusted so, anyones guess as to what they might have come from OR how they got there.

Thanks Yamato! Actually been so long I couldn't remember to post the IMG or the link lol.

Simpilot: Thanks! I have several ideas for a small diorama of a rusted out wreck fermenting in my brain. Problem is it's way easier as a thought experiment than actually getting the darn things built.

Wayne: Very cool, I've never seen that kit but I don't keep up much on 1/72nd subjects.

Bsyamato: Looks good!

chassis work. the tires and some parts are hollow which probably wouldn't be seen except by a judge picking it up. red is body putty, tires are filled with modeling clay which i will coat with cya and paint. since this will probably be a diorama with a target, aka aeroplane, this will only be picked up once, at least by that judge.

interesting compared to 1/35 and 1/25 trucks.

No worries Gam! love to help out any fellow modeller with reference when I can! I know EXACTLLY what you mean Gam, it's the age old adage, looks good on paper(brain), practicality is another thing lol!

wayne shes looking good mate! want to find another hasegawa 1/72 GMC dump truck. My dad drove some at Eglin Field during WWII. Had one and kept it for many years, but amongst my moves it disappeared. Dad told me whilst at Eglin, he actually witnessed Doolittle and the boys doing there practicing!!!

Looks good Wayne, seems like they'd block off the bottoms of the fuel tanks these days but I guess it's an easy enough fix.

looked at the PATRIOT and everything looks filled. the tanker is an earlier kit. my fills look a tad rough but will be fine after priming and painting and very light weathering. it's more a competition thing like filling the motor holes on the hull of old Tamiya kits in case someone picks it up.. one reason i tend to enter some tracks on bases.

getting more done on truck. next time i will leave the drive shafts off until i'm ready to prime. they are delicate, i broke one cutting it off the sprue and cleaning it up.the reason to leave them off is, as small as this is, there isn't a lot of room for fat fingers to hold the chassis and there is the possibility of a thumb pressing into the shaft and breaking it. also in instruction #6 they show the front arrow for the K-2 mount forward of the horizontal brace and it should show it behind. it is obvious when looking at the part.

No problem  Cliff , hope to get back soon with updates but actually working only on a large kit (italeri gigant ) to finish soon, and leave clean workbench for others projects.

That sounds pretty awesome Bsyamato. I've seen the Gigant box but not sure I've ever seen one built.

Anyway I did the pre-shading on the Type 3 the other night though I'm not sure it shows well in the photos,. The Silly Putty is now in place and ready for the second camo colour, I'll try to snap some photos of her with the big final 'sliming' for the third camo paint.

Got another coat of white on Betty, looked a little thin for my taste, and got the crosses on her today.  Got to go back and cover some blow-by and one spot under a wing where the tape pulled white, then give her a flat clear as the green was gloss.  Used frisket to cut out my crosses and a/b'd the green on.  Got the prop spinners painted as well and the props in alum, will do a few steel 'chips' tomorrow.  Started working over the SAC landing gear. Got pics and will post a few once the paint is done on her this next week.  If you do a search for "surrender betty pictures" on ebay you will come across up to about 5-6 different ones showing the pair or singles.

Thanks! I've tried masking tape but Silly Putty is MUCH easier on something with as many edges and corners as a tank.

agreed. you just have to be careful pulling it off so you don't pull off small pieces. also check each hunk of silly putty as you pull it off to make sure no pieces are attached.

pics don't show it but everything is now primed and ready to paint. chassis is black, exhaust is metallic gray or aluminum, upper body is JGSDF OD at least the Vallejo AV equivalent, and cab top is canvas so a slightly lighter OD for contrast. wheel hubs should be black but will be OD for wash effects. this won't be dirtied up much.

thanks to all for the nice comments. i went to airbrush it on Tuesday and everything went to crab; Vallejo Air wasn't working in airbrush, clogging, spitting. so i decided to brush paint it. why not, little model. that turned out like crap too though a coupe more coats would have covered up the brush marks. Tonight i go to the bunker to turn the lights out, figure WTH lets try this again and everything was fine. had the paint a tad thin but all the green is painted. probably hand paint the black chassis with MMA  easier than doing all the masking.
