Cliff,

Your Type 5 looking good, looking forward to what you come up with for an interior. And I wondered the same thing about the 37MM in the hull. Seems a anti-personnel gun would have been a better choice.

Thanks for showing me the colors, this helps out tremendously!

Hey thanks guys!

Bruce: And big thanks to you, I'm going to try to get the interior set up and was ready to paint it white, should be easy enough to mix up some light grey instead.

gamera, thats really coming on well. One tying that is clear is that the Japanese didn't enbrace the idea of slopped armour.

Some great info shareing here as well guys, as always, its great to see how people are prepare to help others.

Thanks Bish, and yeah it seems the Japanese figured out the idea of building it bigger to get a better gun and decent armour but were still running years behind Europe and everyone else design-wise.

I always liked WWII Japanese tanks, but I never get around to buying any for some reason.

They're something different for sure from the usual run of Shermans and Tigers.

Have you gotten any work done on your 12.8mm monster yet or did I miss your post?

Edit: Whoops- meant to say 128mm, 12.8 wouldn't be all that large Dunce

Well, not really, I've got the lower chassis started but I've run into a bit of a difficult filling situation. I'm also trying to figure out what to do about the JS-3's DshK machine gun. I've got a forum thread going, hoping someone can help me with the RB Models set I purchased for the DshK.

I'll be starting a forum thread for the Waffentrager soon (hopefully), as well as posting some updates here. Hopefully Doog will be kind enough to guve me some scratchbuilding and improvement tips.

Moff: Good luck! I saw your post on the DshK and wasn't sure what you could do other than either cutting the barrel or drilling out the plastic part deeper. Looks like the guys have given you some excellent advice there.

The Waffentrager is cool looking, I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with for it. Just seems crazy to me to bolt a gun that big on a chassis that light without something going badly for the crew!

Go figure, now Japan has some of the best engineered automobiles and motorcycles in the world.

@Moff,

Hope you get the machine gun sorted, looking forward to seeing some pictures of the Waffentrager.

Lol, guess I should have clarified Japanese tanks from what I've read were pretty good from an engineering standpoint. They were dependable, reliable, and low maintenace. And when they needed repair generally simple to fix. Their issue was using armour and guns that would have been excellent on a mid '30s tank right up to the mid '40s where it simply wasn't enough.

Been moving along with the Arado this week. despite the size and the nice detail, tehre is not a lot to this kit. In total, 3 sprues, and two of those contain the main body and tail sections.

And this is the only real negative, the sprue gates, especially on the leading edge.

Thats not pretty by anyones standards. And i am not keen on the contro, surfaces, but this is not really a defect, just a differance of opinion.

But enough of that, after priming, the cockpit parts got a coat of RLM 66.

I then did a light dry brush and added a pin wash with Flory wash. next up was starting to paint some of the detail. I have also cut a slot into each seat betwen the cushion and headrest for the PE seat belts.

That dial on the left definatly neds to be re done. I can paint some more once my instrument decals arrive from Canada.

The landing gear has been painted and i have added some black wire for brake lines to the main gear.

And the wheel wells and bomb bay are also painted and ready.

So now i am waiting those decals and the putty, all i can do on the aircrfat is paint the wheels and finish off the seams on the engines. In the menatime, i can start on a couple of the vehicles i will be adding. I am still waiting on the one fom Kora, but i will also be adding these two to the dio.

And thats all for now.

Bish,

Great progress on the 555! So, Im guessing that late war German aircraft switched from RLM 02 to RLM 66 for the interior surfaces? I'm still in anticipation to see your nuclear bomb! This will be a very interesting display!

Cliff,

I agree, the Japanese had very good engineering in their tanks, but, with the lack of any resistance in invading China, they did not recieve the same combat experience as the Europeans during the same time period. And it shows in their designs.

Also, I purchased the Gunze Mr. Color Japanese late war color set. And I checked, Ammo of Mig J, has an early war Japanese color set. Maybe a late war set will follow...

Thnaks Bruce. The switch to 66 was made early in the war. Officially 1941, but there are many example of 1940 aircfat also in the darker colour. I am still waiting for the bomb to arrive, but i meant to post a pic of the ones i have but completly forgot, i will do that for next time.

Would a P-40Q work? In the real world the XP-40Q was cancelled in late 1944 as the war was clearly being won and there were plenty of P-47s and P-51s rolling off the assembly lines.

In a world where the war dragged on another year, having an almost P-51 that didn't take away from P-47 or P-51 production (Curtiss production lines, Allison engines) would have been more attractive.

I've got a 1/72 Pegasus kit of the P-40Q looking for an excuse to be built.

No updates for me.  Cleaning parts is rather dull.  Smile

Bish: Glad to see the Arado coming along.  The vehicles are quite a nice touch, though it looks like you have 4 builds for this GB instead of just one!

Aaron : Oh! A P-40Q!  Very interesting project!  Look forward to seeing it.

Thnaks gary. ye, it does look like that. But i always see a dio as just one build with the main build just being at the centre of it.

Bish: Looking sharp! And yeah those are some monsterous sprue gates there!

Bruce: Cool, I think you'll like the Gunze set. And thanks I didn't know about the new set from Ammo, if I didn't already own the early war Gunze set I'd pick it up since I prefer the acrylic.

Aaron: Nice! I always liked the look of the P-40Q - I can see why it was canciled but it was a good looking plane.

We should do a "Get Out Of Your Comfort Zone" GB. Otherwise, I don't see how I'll kick myself into doing a plane.
