Finally getting a chance to check in and see some of the awesome work being done. Fantastic builds guys! Some really amazing work here.

I got a chance to get a little more done on mine.
I've got all the main assemblies minus the cockpit done, thinking about scratching the current progress and detailing the he** out of it after seeing the amazing resin example.

I also got a chance to get a flight in Sentimental Journey. First B-17 ride and it was everything I hoped it would be, loud, shaky and 100% off the charts amazing!:D
Took lots of high res photo's of all the detailed fiddly bits, so if anyone is going to be building a b-17 feel free to rifle through my shots at the link below.

http://s172.photobucket.com/user/colinrickards/slideshow/B-17%20-%20Sentimental%20Journey

And snagged some video as well.
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLaqudbelNrgdmq0vg-BfP16D6EahQ-DtR

Got a little dusk flying in as well with my Dad in his re-fabriced and painted Stampe S.V.4c which just got back in the air about a month ago after a long fall/winter/spring overhaul.

So a few weeks of summer stuff, a little flying and a little model building and things are back to normal, a few nights a week building after the kids are in bed :)
You should see some more regular progress on my build.

Thanks guys.

Jack, that could be one possability. But it still does not seem to make sense. The Sturmtiger, which used 380mm shells, had quite a simple hoist on the back of the superstructer which could swing ammunition straight into the hull. But given the height on the E-100, useing some sort of hoist would make sense to lift such large round up that high, which is over head height. But i think G may have hit on somthing.

Joe, thanks. I am really pleased i have not obliterated the camo. Some of my armour builds have been a bit to heavily done, it some times suits the base, but it would be nice to see whats undrneath. I think with this, i have finally nailed it.

Gamera, you may be onto somthing there. There are 4 lcations that this device can be used from, 2 on each side front and rear of the superstructer. From those positions it would be possable to use the divice to at least take some of the weight of each of the sections of armour. I would not fancy working on the track with that armour just held up by the hoist, but you would have to remove all 3 sections to replace the track anyway.

So, i think its either that, or jacks idea of one part of a system to hoist ammunition.

She looks great Bish, bravo!!! Looking forward to the dio and seeing her in her element as it were.

The camo on the figures looks pretty darn good too.

As to the hoist I was wondering that since I've read these skirts were armoured rather than the sheet metal ones used on earlier tanks maybe it was used to lift them back into place if they needed to be removed to fix track damage? But looks like the hoist is only on one side and there's no way to use it on the rear skirt sections so frankly I dunno...

Bish: Excellent! I'm really impressed with lighter weathering touch you achieved. It looks very good and realistic. I'm scratching my head over that little pulley system also. I'm no armor guy but, I'm struggling to figure that out. Your figures are sure looking great also Bish. You are certainly doing some nice paint work there.

Moff: No, can't say as I'm a member of Armorama. But, I'll take your suggestion into consideration and check it out.

Hi Bish, looking really good, glad you went with the lighter shade of weathering.

I see what you mean about the hoist, it serves no purpose where it is other than as a storage place when not in use.  Even considering the supplying of ammo through the top of the fighting compartment, that would still require the pulley wheel of that contraption to sit much higher so the shell clears the roof.  Maybe it's just half of a two part pully system, and the second section is stored inside?

regards,

Jack

Thanks Steve. No, i used some AK wash for the pin washes, but the rest was done with oil's.

That's an amazing job Bish. The detail to the rust on the weld seams is outstanding. the weathering on the deck also looks great. Did you use Mig washes?

Time to wrap up at least one part of this build. The final stages of the Jagd were all on the weathering. I started off with a light dot filter. I used less oil and lighter colours to get a lighter more dusty effect than i have done on previous builds and i am really happy with the result. This was followed up by a pin wash and some very light chipping. As you can see, i also have the antenna's and FG 1250 IR sight fitted.

One thing thats had me stumped is a piece of equpment that can go in one of the 4 mounting positions, 2 on eitehr side of the vehicle. One review i read said this was an ammo hoist, but that does not make any sense. Even from the rear position, it could not swing ammo round to the erar hatch, and the front positions would be useless.

So, anyone have any other ideas.

The FG 1250 is resin and come with the Voyager set. they include this in a few of their AM sets but this is the first i have used and its rather nice.

To finish off the weatehring, i used some MiG and AK pastels. The Voyager set also includes PE metal sheets for protecting the louvers. I painted this steel and tried to replicate some mild rust finish. It took several attempts, but i am pretty pleased with the end result.

And i finished off the cam on the figures by useing Tamiya NATO black to replicate the late war uniforms the Germans were developing that jack's link showed an image to.

So, now i can put the vehcile to one side and get the figures wrapped up. that should take a couple of days and then i can concentrate on the base.

Things seem to be coming along nicely!

By the way JOE RIX, are you a member of Armorama? I know they do a lot of walkarounds, and I bet they'd love to feature some of those photos.

Lost: Man that pit really looks convincing. Lots of great detail in there. I envy you on the plane ride too. Always fun to go up. One of these days I'm going to take another Huey ride. It's now been 20 years since I last went up after 8-1/2 years of crewing one those beauties in the Army.

Joe: You lucky dog you. Nice score on the plant riser as well. I should be providing some updates soon. Almost done with the Chevy. Still have some wet sanding and polishing to go along with some fine details but we're gettin' there. I just got through Alclading the front and rear bumpers. I figure about another month and I'll be full steam ahead on the Blitz.

Thanks Gamera. There's a whole lot more to them than I ever thought there was but they are rewarding to the patient builder. I've seen folks use Future as a gloss but I stay away from that because it can't be polished out.

LA: Lol, thanks. It's Sept 4th so I get Labor Day off, I'm not complaining!

Joe: Always nice to score wife points! And same as LA I've never seen a B-29 in the flesh so to speak but have seen a B-17. And as big as it is a B-29 must be amazing in person.

Hey Gamera,

Happy Birthday to you too! Father's Day and your Birthday on the one day, not sure if that's good or not?

Joe

Good to hear from you, that construction is coming along well, what scale is it, I don't recognise the kit...

The B-29, that must be something to see - and to hear. Just love the sound of those motors running (haven't seen a B-29 yet, much as I would like to) but we have a Constellation that does the shows down here and she sounds awesome.

By the way, the distraction that has been keeping me from quality bench has been building a raised bed for my wife. This is something she has wanted for a very long time. Major hubby points have been scored.

Oh, and the other distraction was a 2 hr drive to have a look and tour of this:

Hey Gents. No, I have not fallen off the face of the earth. Simply had to turn the majority of my attention to another project. I've still managed some bench time here and there though. Appears that I have a couple of pages of catching up to do. And, Man, is it ever a healthy load of fantastic modeling to acknowledge.

Lost: First, Happy Birthday! Your cockpit looks excellent. The painting and detailing are very well done. I am so jealous of your ride in the Stearman. Funny, as I just went a small airshow on Sunday and a Stearman was supposed to be there. Unfortunately, it had left that morning and I missed it. My father spent hundreds of hours in the Stearman. I have the Revell 1/48 kit and I was really hoping to get some detail pics.

Bish: Amazing work on that beast. I love the camo scheme. You sure have an awesome base planned out. That's going to be boss when finished up. No expert here but, your figures look great to me.

68GT: Welcome the GB. Appers to me that your wrestling that 339 into shape regardless. Nice start.

Tony: The Spit looks fabulous in those markings. I'm really impressed with your choice and with the work you have done on it so far. Looking forward to that "Completed Look".

Matt: The 335 is looking sweet what with all that resin AM. You are doing some tremendous work and it is quite impressive.

Joe: Although it's been awhile but, your office and the harnesses are excellent. 'Bout time for an update, eh?

I hope I've touched everyone's work since my last post. I'll have an update on the Corsair very soon.

Really nice job on the pit there lost. That looks stunning. And what a lucky guy, i can see why you look so happy.

I know what you mean about photo's. Its a balance between getting close enough that others can se the detail and getting to close and seeing things the naked eye can't. I did put a figure next to the vehcile ove rthe weekend to see if it was as big as it seemed. And o boy is it.

I was going to post some pics, but the vehcile is nearly done, just a flat coat and pigments. I normally try and time it to get the kit, figures and base finished at about the same time. But of course the delay caused in haveing to get more bits has blown that away. But its probably a good thing. Doing an urban scene isn't like a rural one where i can just lay down some celluclay and put some vegitation on it. So i think i will just finish the vehicle and figures and then i can focus on the building.

Tony,

The Spitfire really jumps out with the colourful Belgian roundels - really nice work.

Bish,

The horseshoe gives real perspective to the size of the base and the E 100.  The figures look good to me - there is always a risk in enlarging photos way past real size.

68GT

Looks like the 229 is taking a bit of wrestling there...

The MB5 cockpit is now complete. I had to hack a bit of width off to get the fuselage to close up, but this is what we are left with:

Next is the exhausts, then oil cooling systems, wheels, wings, props - hardly anything left to do...

So I got distracted last weekend - for my birthday I got to be flown in a plane:

Spent half an hour in a Boeing Stearman flying around above the Yarra Valley - great fun.

And of course there is a Stearman model available - there's another project for me!
