I have been having quite a time with the 1/72 251 (I.E. I hate it), so to keep up with my usual modus operandi when I don't like a kit, I toss it in the rubbish.

Well today I swung by the craft store and purchased the good ole standby, the Tamiya 1/35 Sd.Kfz. 251/1 Hanomag. I'm sure everybody is familiar with this kit.

Needless to say I will be switching my entry.

Everybody has been doing good work.  Things are starting to slow down here so I'll soon have more time to spend on my models and can get this finished.

I haven't been able to find that friggin' sighting device anywhere. Instead of scratchbuilding a replacement I put the model back in the box and sat on it hoping it would show. Then I ended up getting distracted by other stuff. Well, the Chinese tank I was building is finished, hopefully I'll get the Type 5 diorama for Bish's 1946 build done soon and then I've got a B-17 for a vet that's at about 75% done. I want to get finished for the guy for Christmas. Then hopefully I'll get back to making progress here......

Ha, I was working on my U-boat last night and my elbow hit a container that had small parts of my 88 in it. Through the air it flew and onto the carpet. I hope I can find all the wee little parts.

This weekend there is a build-in with our local IPMS club so I will start the Gref then and leave the 88 for later.

What? You all thought I quit? Gave-up? Threw in the towel? Nah, I'm just slow. I have managed to get the olive drab sprayed and am allowing it to cure before starting picking out details and weathering. I'll have more later..........eventually.

Thanks Bish, the humidity though still high is better than it was. First time I've had that problem after using an airbrush for twenty years.

I haven't gotten much of anything done since the last time I posted. I've been looking around off and on for that blasted sight that vanished. I turned everything upside down last weekend and still didn't find it. I guess I'm stuck with trying to scratchbuild a new one, after which as you say the original will resurface. I can't complain too much, some part always disappears with every model and so far this is the only one with this kit. So there it is, I just jinxed myself- a dozen will vanish now! 

Hope you can get that re sprayed soon G. It gts a bit humid here time to time, has been a lot this summer, but never so much it causes problems painting.

MD: Everything looks good. You have the right idea there on painting the frame and the body as separate parts, it should make things much easier. And you might as well work on the figure, the best way to learn to paint them is to get some cheaper figures like these Tamiya ones and just practice, practice, and practice on them.

I tried spraying the sand camo on my M3 yesterday. But it's so friggin' humid I sprayed it, set it aside for ten mins and came back and the paint was still half liquid. And what had dried had done so in big runs and drips. I was able to scrub it off with a paper towel and the alcohol I use for cleaning my brush. I'll try again sometime later this week.

I know that feeling MD. I have been off work last two weeks and though i have been able to get some modelling in, its not as much as i had hoped. There is always somthing thats stop me getting to the bench.

I like the idea of the door, but you a brave man attaching it now. I always paint those off the model and add them later, i know i would knock it off and lose it.

Well, it's been a while since my last update. seems like everytime I would get set to have a day at the bench something would come up. Going here, going there, helping my sister move, etc. But I haven't been completely stalled, I still found time to do a little here and there, although I am a self confessed sssllllooowww modeler. Here is what I've gotten so far. Paint is in the near future I believe. I cut the driver side door to drop the upper armor to see if I could really. I also assembled the rear door ajar to add some visual interest. Not sure this was a good idea yet, as I've already knocked it loose once. As for the figure, I'm not sure I'm going to use them or not. They were there, and I've never assembled a figure, so I thought I might try it.

I know we have all been tehre. And yep, it will turn up right after you scratch a new one. At least you will have a spare

Guys I wish I had more to report. I'm almost finished with assembly but the blasted sight for the 75 has vanished. I've looked everywhere for it, I keep hoping if I wait it will turn out but I may end up having to try to scratchbuild a replacement. 

Of course you know that after I finish the  thing the sight will reappear.... 

Sounds like a nice set up. Ye, i have built a few of those small Hase kits, been trying to fit the BMW into an aircrfat dio as i have a few of those spare. But you can't go wrong with a Kubel.

Are you ok if i change you entry to N African Diorama to encompas them all.

Yes, also Rommel's mount, the Sd.Kfz 250 "Grief". I may throw in a Kubelwagen and BMW if I have the space. I think you are familiar with the Hase kit.

I will be building the Africa 41 version. That’s right no water! I think I can pull it off.

 

Steve, for a minute you have me woudering, i thought i was in the 1946 GB lol. I am guessing an Sd.Kfz 7 to go with this.

Congrads Bish, really nice work there on the halftrack and the base. And love the figures, depicting the vehicle 'in action' as it were rather than just standing around makes them even better! 

Thanks jack. For me, its not so much that the fern sticks out, nature does that, but that the colour just seems off. I have some ferns in the garden and they are not like this. It almost seems like a neon green.

Hi Bish, great looking scene you have there.

Really like how you have the rocket tubes portrayed.  Colourwise that fern does stick out in a couple of the photos, but it's not a dealer breaker for me.
