Bish

Front page is updated and the badges of been put back on.

Check out plenty of photo's, you will get some great dio ideas. The trick can often be finding figures that fit your scene rather than fitting the scene to go with the figures you can get. But there are lots out there and with a bit of modification who can usually get them to look how you want.

Will do, and thank you again Bish. I sure hope we can have another half track GB in the future.

Thank you Bish, and thank you for the advice.

I can see what you are saying about the dio or base being spot on. If that looks horrible or odd it will throw off a great looking kit build. I am hooked on dio's now...I enjoy building kits, but then having to use your imagination to create a scene to diplict what is going on is awesome. Plus it's an excuss to go online to purchase dio supplies and kits lol Confused Thanks again sir.

No worries Hunter, i know you had good reason to be absent. I'll put the badges back up on the front page when i get a chance so be sure to grab one.

I've been doing diorara's for about 30 years now so pretty used to it. Once you have done a couple you soon get your eye in. I've heardit said that diorama building is the hardest form of modelling because so many things have to be right. The best model in the world can be spoilt by a poor dio and visa verca.Your certainly off to a very good start.

Hunter the guys have good advice there but I'd say this is pretty darn awesome for a first diorama!

Nice job Hunter, thats come out wel and a nice quick one as well. Like the layout, the only thing i would have done different is to have the pile of rockets over to the right to give a bit more balance. But i would have been very happy if my early dio's had loked like that.

I'll add you to the front page.

Thank you very much Bish. After I read your advice I took a look at it, and you're absolutely correct...it would have looked better with them over on the right. Thank you again, and sorry I was A.W.O.L. during the GB. Hopefully you deceide to do it again. I was off for 5 days straight...that's why I got it done quickly. I got all my "Honey-Do's" done the day I got home from the wildland fires. This was my third build and all three have been fun...but I will always base my builds with a base or dio going forward.

Hunter, that dio looks very well done.  Yes

Am impressed with you've done in the time frame, not a weekend project, but still is quick compared to my output.  I think the only thing I would of done different, is maybe some uneven ground, and place the left side bush a bit inward so those added elements are not all on the base edge?

regards,

Jack

Thank you very much for the kind words Jack. I appreciate your imput and honesty about the dio base. As my first dio I was just trying to learn the fundamentals, but you are a 100% correct about adding elevations and staging the bushes and items. I will make sure to do better at a "dry run" before secureing the items to the base. Again, thank you for the kind words and your advice...it is greatly appreciated.

I got the dio base and figures done. I have the tracks glued and letting them dry for a few hours. I did ok with the figures for it being my first time...still have along ways to go to where I am pleased with them. All have left is to attach the tracks and she's done.

Thank you for looking....please don't hesitate to point out errors

I am inching closer to finishing this build. At this point I have the tracks and figures left. I have made a lot of mistakes during this build...but I have learned a lot from this build. This has been the first of many...track build, figures, camo scheme and a dio. Even with all the errors and redo's I have had a great time building this.

I got the dio base done today....halftrack coming soon.

I have along way to go to produce a truely outstanding build and dio....but the journey will be worth it. Thank you for looking. Tips, suggestions and any insight is much appreciated.

Great, thank you Bish....I don't know if not changing the needles caused this, but no matter what I did I was getting a wide stripe. I plan on fixing that.

Looking good Hunter. I agree with jack, a thin overspray of the DY will help, just one or two light passes will do.

Hunter, I like how this is progressing.  You can always go back in and airbrush the base vehicle colour to clean up the camou over spray.

Jack

Well sad to say it wasn't a good day with the airbrush. I had issues all session with small spatter. I tried low and medium pressure, I made adjustments to the paint and no resolve. I am disappointed with the camo job I applied. After the A/B session I broke down the gun to clean it and noticed I forgot to change out the needles....I had a #3 in the gun when I should have changed it to a #2 needle. I am not sure if that makes a difference. I remember reading that for small detail work and lines use the #2 needle.

I made mistakes this build....but I also learned a lot from those mistakes. I quess I need to stop beating myself up since this was only my third build. I'll get there one day lol.

While the paint and some small parts glued were drying I got started on the dio base

Thank you for looking

Gamera

Hunter, she looks good together!!!

And if you need help with the figures there's loads of videos on YouTube. I wish I'd had it back when I started painting them- it was more like stare at photos in a book and try to figure out how the painter went from step 5 to step 6 at times.

Thank you Cliff, and you are correct. I have watched a handful of the videos and have a little insight on how to paint them. Thanks again!

Coming on nicely Hunter, looks good with the racks on.

Are you useing the figures that come with the kit for a dio. The 35th kit comes with the same figures and i did a dio with that many years ago. So i will be loking forward to seeing yours.

Hello Bish,

Yes, I plan on using the figures that came in the kit. I am kinda going to follow the box art...but slightly different. Thank you for looking in.

Gamera

Looks good Hunter!

And good luck with the diorama. I think you'll find that they're fun when you start one. And not that hard to do.

Jack: Lol, thanks but I've done nothing- the kits been sitting there in the box since the end date.... Embarrassed

Thanks a lot Cliff...I'm looking forward to the dio portion. I got a lot of small work done today..almost there lol. The things I have remaining...crates, bombs and figures. Oh yes figures....going to be the first time doing those. Many first with this build LOL.

Had to go back and fix the front bomb cradles...put them on backwards LOL

Hunter it's looking very good, and commend both you and Cliff for continuing even though this GB is over.

For painting small parts, or detailing, make sure both your hands are resting on something solid, like the edge of the table.  Even if your painting hand is resting against the other for some support should help reduces the 'shakes'.

regards,

Jack

Well, I got a lot of small work done this morning and early afternoon. I have been learning a lot off of this build when it comes to "Do's & Dont's". First, I should have practiced on something besides the halftrack on doing a "wash". I made the inside of the H/T look horrible LOL....unexperienced!

I still srtuggle with the paint before, or after it has been installed. I am learning that it is easier to paint prior to installation. Still learning. Plus, I don't know why but I was shaking badly today while hand painting small items.....No Coffee prior to painting. LOL

Please don't hesitate to point out errors or mistakes. Thank you!

I got some stuff last night for the dio

Thank you for looking....again, any tips, suggestions or just to point out errors please don't hesitate to inform me.

Tep, not many German vehicles had rubber pads. They did try tracks without in 1944, to help with the rubber shortage, but the vibrations caused issues so they switched back.
