Bish

Thanks G. I find the hardest part of dio's is trying to come up with decent scenes. The standing around chatting and looking at a map is all to easy.

LOL, I'm currently working on some figures of a tank crew standing around while one asks a local for directions...

And my E-100 will have a bunch of figures standing around a map lol.

That looks great Bish Bow Down. The weathering looks fantastic and the guys look great in action!

OK, now I'm ready to start this GB. Here is my first entry

Revell’s 1/72 Flak 36. No wait, I must have the wrong GB!

Seriously though, this will be part of a diorama so I’m starting on the 88 first.

I will be building the Africa 41 version. That’s right no water! I think I can pull it off.

Steve, for a minute you have me woudering, i thought i was in the 1946 GB lol. I am guessing an Sd.Kfz 7 to go with this.

Yes, also Rommel's mount, the Sd.Kfz 250 "Grief". I may throw in a Kubelwagen and BMW if I have the space. I think you are familiar with the Hase kit.

Sounds like a nice set up. Ye, i have built a few of those small Hase kits, been trying to fit the BMW into an aircrfat dio as i have a few of those spare. But you can't go wrong with a Kubel.

Are you ok if i change you entry to N African Diorama to encompas them all.

Guys I wish I had more to report. I'm almost finished with assembly but the blasted sight for the 75 has vanished. I've looked everywhere for it, I keep hoping if I wait it will turn out but I may end up having to try to scratchbuild a replacement.

Of course you know that after I finish the Censored thing the sight will reappear.... Bang Head

Well, it's been a while since my last update. seems like everytime I would get set to have a day at the bench something would come up. Going here, going there, helping my sister move, etc. But I haven't been completely stalled, I still found time to do a little here and there, although I am a self confessed sssllllooowww modeler. Here is what I've gotten so far. Paint is in the near future I believe. I cut the driver side door to drop the upper armor to see if I could really. I also assembled the rear door ajar to add some visual interest. Not sure this was a good idea yet, as I've already knocked it loose once. As for the figure, I'm not sure I'm going to use them or not. They were there, and I've never assembled a figure, so I thought I might try it.

I know that feeling MD. I have been off work last two weeks and though i have been able to get some modelling in, its not as much as i had hoped. There is always somthing thats stop me getting to the bench.

I like the idea of the door, but you a brave man attaching it now. I always paint those off the model and add them later, i know i would knock it off and lose it.

MD: Everything looks good. You have the right idea there on painting the frame and the body as separate parts, it should make things much easier. And you might as well work on the figure, the best way to learn to paint them is to get some cheaper figures like these Tamiya ones and just practice, practice, and practice on them.

I tried spraying the sand camo on my M3 yesterday. But it's so friggin' humid I sprayed it, set it aside for ten mins and came back and the paint was still half liquid. And what had dried had done so in big runs and drips. I was able to scrub it off with a paper towel and the alcohol I use for cleaning my brush. I'll try again sometime later this week.

Hope you can get that re sprayed soon G. It gts a bit humid here time to time, has been a lot this summer, but never so much it causes problems painting.

Thanks Bish, the humidity though still high is better than it was. First time I've had that problem after using an airbrush for twenty years.

I haven't gotten much of anything done since the last time I posted. I've been looking around off and on for that blasted sight that vanished. I turned everything upside down last weekend and still didn't find it. I guess I'm stuck with trying to scratchbuild a new one, after which as you say the original will resurface. I can't complain too much, some part always disappears with every model and so far this is the only one with this kit. So there it is, I just jinxed myself- a dozen will vanish now!

What? You all thought I quit? Gave-up? Threw in the towel? Nah, I'm just slow. I have managed to get the olive drab sprayed and am allowing it to cure before starting picking out details and weathering. I'll have more later..........eventually.Big Smile

Ha, I was working on my U-boat last night and my elbow hit a container that had small parts of my 88 in it. Through the air it flew and onto the carpet. I hope I can find all the wee little parts.

This weekend there is a build-in with our local IPMS club so I will start the Gref then and leave the 88 for later.

Maildude: Great to see more progress from you. She's looking good!

Steve: Good luck there with finding everything man! Been there, done that, got the T-shirt...

I haven't been able to find that friggin' sighting device anywhere. Instead of scratchbuilding a replacement I put the model back in the box and sat on it hoping it would show. Then I ended up getting distracted by other stuff. Well, the Chinese tank I was building is finished, hopefully I'll get the Type 5 diorama for Bish's 1946 build done soon and then I've got a B-17 for a vet that's at about 75% done. I want to get finished for the guy for Christmas. Then hopefully I'll get back to making progress here......Bang Head

Everybody has been doing good work.  Things are starting to slow down here so I'll soon have more time to spend on my models and can get this finished.

Bish,

I have been having quite a time with the 1/72 251 (I.E. I hate it), so to keep up with my usual modus operandi when I don't like a kit, I toss it in the rubbish.

Well today I swung by the craft store and purchased the good ole standby, the Tamiya 1/35 Sd.Kfz. 251/1 Hanomag. I'm sure everybody is familiar with this kit.

Needless to say I will be switching my entry.

Steve

Hey Bish, any chance I joine with ICMs Sd.Kfz. 3b Maultier in 1:35? Just bought it the other day and remembered this GB.

Cheers...

Yes, I'm still plugging away here...

I sprayed the camo on the other day and the Tamiya buff dried with some of the worst orange peel I've ever seen. I hosed the model down with rubbing alcohol and scrubbed it off. No big deal since I figured it would be easier to spray the sand camo, mask it, and then hit the rest of the halftrack down with olive drab.

No idea what went wrong with the Tamiya, I'm going to with Testor's Model Master next time... Bang Head

Time to get going on my second entry. As i am sure many know, i have a bit of a fetish for the Sd.Kfz 251. And of all the possable variants, i have 2 favorites, the Stuka zu Fuss and the /9. So, i have been really looking forward to this one.

I'll be adding an Eduard PE set and i also have this from Verlinden.

While it says its for the tamiya 251/9, it could be used on any of their 3 251 Ausf D kits. The only pars which relate to the /9 are some ammunition and wicker containers. The only thing i will be useing it for is the engine as the Eduard set covers the rest. I'll also use a set of Dragon magic tracks from the spares box.

I also have the spares box to hand and a dragon 3 in 1 kit thats includes a /9

I started off with the hull floor. having done an AFV Club and Dragon 251 recently, its clear simpler but less detauled the Tamiya kit is. The ammunition bin in the rear left corner was replaced with the one from the Dragon kit which allows the option to have the box open. The rear seat was replaced with an AFV club one from the soares box but it had to be trimmed a little.

With that the floor was fitted into the hull and the hull sides detailed. Unlike the otehr brands, Tamiya moulds the lower sides onto the bottom of the hull. Which means less chance for me to mess this up.

And the hull top had a few pieces added. I cut out the engine hatch doors and added the inner rim from the Verlinden set.

And then the gun. I had thought about replacing this completly with the Dragon gun. But on checking, it turns out that the /9 Ausf C and early Ausf D have a differant gun to the late Ausf D. While i could have modified the Dragon one, the detail in the tamiya kit with the PE means it would not have been worth the work. I did replace the barrel with a rifeled metal one from RB.

And finally a few of the bits left off for painting. On the kit drivers set i cut off the seat back and replaced it with a Dragon one. And i learnt on my last 251 to leave off the IP until afer painting.

So now to get the inside primed up and painted. I am goign to take a different approach to weathering on this, so will see how that turns out.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

You will most definitely need AM tracks. The kits are too taught and won't lay down.

Eric, do you know if AFV club tracks will work, the kit supplied ones. If so i have a few spare i can send Steve a set if he doesn't want to spend $ on AM. From your post in my WiP thread, i am guessing this is the same with all Tamiya 251's.

That would be great if possible. I'm not planning on spending anything on AM for this kit.

The U-boat guns used up my AM budget or a while.
