Hi Hunter,

If I remember right there was quite a bit of flash on that kit but with your scratching it should make a great build.

Good to see you back.

Steve

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

That old Revell kit turns out nice. You did a nice job on the painting. Can't wait to see the weathering.

Seeing as i know have the hang of Flickr and can post pics without all the drama's of PB, thought i would post a short update. My main source of referance for painting is Dougie Martindale's article. Fortunatly, he picks out U-99 as an example. The hull and tower were painted with colorcoats, Hellgrau 50 for the upper hull and tower and Schiffsbodenfarbe III Grau on the lower hull. The deck was painted with tamiya flat black and i started the weathering by dry brushing NATO black.

Just got to wrap up the Imperial Shuttle now and get really dive into the whoe reason i am building this, the weathering.

I hear ya Steve. I like them too, just not the sudden price hike but like you said, it's easy to use, fast and no issues. Just waiting for a response before I renew, hopefully they will honor my older price.

Wow, I have an automatic deduction so I didn't notice the price change. It's still a good site and like you never had any issues....except that one a year ago. They fixed that rather quickly and put in fixes so it wouldn't happen again.

Steve

My subscription went up from $18.99 to $37.99 and have been looking around for a cheaper paid site but have found nothing better so I may just pay up the increase  and go with it. I've had no issues at all and has been a pleasure to use. I sent them an email complaining about the price hike and got an automated response saying they are looking into my issue.

PJ turned me onto Imageshack almost 2 years ago and have never regretted it.

No pop-ups, no waiting for adds to load.

Yeah I HATE PB. I gladly pay yearly for Imageshack, though several members seem happy with Flickr.

I joined Flickr this weekend but can't be doing with that eitehr. It doesn't crash like PB, but i can't even figure out how to take a link and post images. It should be plan and simple. I may end up going the payment route.

MC, yea she's big, very smooth build so far. I have the old Dragon "Alpha", "Los Angeles", and "Ohio" class subs, this thing dwarfs all of them. BTW all 350th.

Bish, thanks for checking in. I work with a guy who details VERY well, he gets me motivated. My brother is an uber scratchbuilder and detailer on 35th german armor, he helps stoke the fire too. Thanks for looking, I will try to post more after some paint. P.S. PB is really problematic today.

Hey guys, here are the pictures of bulk head progress on my Typhoon.  Its a sheet of .030 styrene drilled out with a drill and then slipped over tubes.  Currently working on baffles between each tube set.  Thanks for looking.  More pics after paint.

Here's is what you get in the box. It's typical Verlinden resin, of course. The molding is very clean, apart from the underside of the torso which is rough and needs some bubble holes to be filled, and a general block sanding. All of this is very typical of the other Verlinden busts that I've painted. I've given it a wash in some vinegar and water, so I'll get than done then then drill out some holes for locating pins, then prime it.

Cheers

Tony

Cheers

Tony

Nice. I have been eyeing up a couple of U-Boat commander busts. Will be looking forward to seeing this.

Am I allowed to join this using Airfix's old Sunderland kit?

Yep! The Sunderland's were harsh on the U-boats. I got you down.

Armornut, I'm looking forward to the pics.

I haven't taken any more pix of my Typhoon, however I have manage to drill 20 holes in a piece of 030 evergreen. Dropped that down over the tubes to simulate the pressure hull. Gonna try add in some bulkheads as well. I will post a couple pix before I close it up. Kinda happy with it so far, took some noodle scratching but i got it figured out. Great job the rest of ya motely crew.

Its a really cool movie about salvaging a sunken UBoat and used to pull a heist on the Queen Mary. Frank Sinatra is one of the main dudes in the script. I saw that movie when it came out so can't remember what type of sub they used. I have to see it again .

Thanks guys, tahts really handy. I will be making nore of that and going throuh the builds as i start the weathering. Just got the primer on.

So, on a U-Boat, you have the lighter grey on top and the darker one on the lower par of the hull. I am guessing thats the anti fouling paint, so the rust needs to be on the lighter grey.

PJ, wasn't to bad opening those up, i can't imagine its quite that easy on a 72nd boat. Never heard of that movie, is it worth checking out.
