RAF Group Build feeler

Bish, I will apologize to you. I had yankee tunnel vision going on. I ignorantly thought all British aircraft were RAF. But, and this is one of the reason I like this forum so much; I learned something new. 

Anyway, I still think both aircraft are very interesting. But, I do have several other true RAF aircraft in the stash, and with 5 months before it starts, I may look for something less well known to build. We'll see.

The old Hase Mk-5B clipped wing kit. Doesn’t see to be supper detailed but I'll see what I can do with it.

I'll be building the Stringbag in a month or two and would be happy to do a WIP on it. I understand from others who have built it that the wing alignment is a bear. We'll see I can get through the wing fit trial.

I'll watch out for that swordfish though. How you can post a progress build. I am hopeing to do an Ar 196 from the Bismarck for the floatplane GB next year.

Oops, I misread the instructions. It is defiantly from the squadron who attacked the Bismarck so it wouldn’t work.

Steve, again, the Swordfish was mainly used by the Navy. If your doing a pre war FAA aircrfat, thats ok. The RAF did use them during the war as well, but would need to check the markings. I know they used the Mk III, i have a conversion for the Airfix 72nd Mk I, and i think a few Sqn's may have used the Mk I.

It can be tricky telling RAF from FAA aircraft. They have often have similar schemes and there are no markings which indicate which branch of service they are from.

Bruce, both of those were carrier born aircraft used by the navy. Though one RAF Sqn did use the Fulmer but only for 6 months as far as i can tell.

I just purchased a 1/48 Fairey Firefly and Fulmer. Which I thought were very interesting subjects. I have several other GB's to finish, but, I'm looking forward to this one.

There i was, haveing a nice day (well, for a Monday). I got to work, had a few mins spare, thought i would pop on and see what you guys were up to. I saw loads of posts for the 2 GB feelers and thought great, loads on interest.

And then i saw this. Some one had to ask didn't they. And it had to be you.

Yes, that infernal machine counts.

Exactly, that one of the reasons i don't I am just tired of having it rammed down our throats. And we love to hype up our role in WW2, and and the Spit is hyped up way beyond the hype. You would think it won the war alone, let alone the Battle of Britain.

Give me a nice 109 any day.

I think the 1980's Mini was pretty much the same as the 1960's version. I wpould not have known if i had not found that site.

I know what you mean, but knowing how the British forces work, it doesn't surprise me. Yep, a new Vulcan would be nice. I had thought they might have done a new one in 2012, but we didn't even get a re-box.

Bish, thanks for that site.  The first pic I found was of the car itself, which is why I guessed it was 60's vintage.  I didn't realize how cobbled together the Blackbuck mission was until I read their synopsis.  Maybe in its infinite wisdom, Airfix will grace us with a new tool Vulcan.

Bish, thanks.  I found several on the RAF Mini Club's Facebook page.  Including an Air Police car in black, and one in a metallic blue that was used to rush ready crews to their aircraft (according to the caption).

lewbud, that pic you found of a a RAF Mini, is that one with a yellow strip down the side. IOf so, i don't think that 1960's but 1982. I found a site with a pic of it next to a Vulcan being readied for bombing raids during the Falklands war.

Sounds like you have some nice ones to choose from there lewbud. I did a quick search, seems after the war it would be RAF Blue. Can't find anything on the 60's, but i did find of an RAF Minin in green and it looked like the Bronze green we use now.

What color green would be appropriate for RAF vehicles in the mid to late 60's?  Found a picture of a Mini in RAF service and it looks interesting. I'm on my second MINI.  First was an 05 Cooper S, now drive an 11 MCS.

I'll have to see where I'm at with the other GB's then.  If I jump in it will be with the old 1/48 Monogram Mossey done as the night fighter version in the kit.

Just messing with you Bish!  I'd love to build my TSR.2, but I don't have anyplace to it once it's done.  Put me down for Airfix's Sabre in 1/72.  I may do a Mustang as well, don't know yet.

You, and even your Spitfire, will be very welcome.

I'd like to join up if I could. I'm pretty sure I can dig up a Spit if nothing else.  Scale will be 1/72, as usual.
