Thanks Jack and Checkmate! Appreciate it.

The first pic is fine with me for the front page.

Now if I can remember how to put the GB 'patch' on my signature I'll be good to go!

I don't recall the manufacturer It may have been Lost Battalion. I lost the box long time ago.

Well done, Tonka!  This has been a great addition to the GB, and, as Jack says, not so common to have a figure!

Do you have a preference for the front-page photo?  I kind of like the first one.  Shows things to a good advantage.

Thanks for being part of the GB!

Hi Tonka, cool work with the Marine! Yes

Not often we get to see a stand alone figure in a GB setting, so this great.  Who was the manufacture?

regards,

Jack

Finished the 120MM Marine Corps MP. Went with simple base, its January 1942 and Cpl Joe Larue has been assigned a section of beach at Kanehoe Bay to patrol. He is armed with his Thompson .45 SMG and 1911A1 .45 pistol as well as his 'attitude adjusting' night stick. He is as alert for Japanese saboteurs as he is for drunk sailors!! Stick out tongue

Glad you found a subject, Tony--and quite an interesting one!  There's something appealing about the chunky shape of Buffalo's and Wildcats.

Roster is updated.

Nice work Tonka, that's going to be good.

CMK, I'd like to convert my 'TBD' into a 1/48 Brewster Buffalo model 339-23, as operated by 25 Squadron RAAF in Western Australia in 1942.

...

Hi,

I'm anxious to see your build.  I find the Buffalo a fascinating subject, in that so few were actually built, but they served in so many different forces and had a wide variety of paint schemes.  It'll be interesting to see one in 1942 Australian Markings.

Cheers

Tony

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

Looking good!  Particularly a nice, effective metallic-appearance on the Thompson.

Thanks, Stug.  I'll update the roster.

Amazon has some for sale, but they're a lot more pricey than they used to be, when comics cost 12 cents.

I've heard about the haunted tank...need to find a copy somewhere.

This will be 1/72 scale.

Welcome to the GB, StugIIIG; roster is updated.  What scale is the Stuart?  I like to post that also.

Looks like you got some good advice already.  Can't say I know much about Stuarts--except what I used to read in "Haunted Tank" comic books--but it's a sharp-looking vehicle.

Stars should be all yellow or all white. They did not mix and match colors.

StugIIIG

I forgot to mention that I haven't decided on theater yet.  Probably Pacific if I can find a camo pattern I like.

In the PTO for 1942 your choices are limited. M3s saw action there in three spots:Philippines, Papua, and Guadalcanal. All were solid OD.

The M5 saw action in 1944 in the Marianas and elsewhere in the Central Pacific. The only M5 use in 1942 was in North Africa, and that was only with one US Tank Battalion. They were just entering service and the M3 was the main light tank at the time.

StugIIIG, cool little tank, I like the Stuart.

Just leafed through my Osprey book on the Stuart, and can't find any mention of the M5 used in the Pacific.  It is a bit out dated, being first published in 1980, so maybe some new  or more accurate information has come to light since then?

Jack

Hi I'd like to join this GB.  I joined the forum specifically to join group builds.  I will build the US Army M5.  I'm starting with the Plastic Soldier M5A1 and will adapt/scratch build an M5/M3 turret.  I'll make other adjustments as necessary.  Still looking over details.

The other two M5A1s will be built by my son and I but not as part of this GB.

Here's the kit:

Certainly a pivotal year, which makes for lots of interesting subjects.

Checkmate, glad to be aboard. You keep pitching these themes that I have a hard time saying no to. 1942 was the year where everything hung in the balance and could go either way. The Axis was moving ever forward and the Allies reeling from blow after blow...

Andy:  thanks for your kind comments on the Flying Tiger.  I wasn't so sure when I started it that it was going to come out too well.  I'm usually pretty nervous about the paint and the decals.

stik:  welcome to the GB!  Glad you listened to the siren-song!  That does look to be a "classic" kit.  Even the box has a patina of seniority about it.  Good to have you join in.

tonka:  sounds like a good contribution.  Glad to have you join with us, and it's an interesting project I look forward to seeing.

Roster has been updated.

Thanks, Steve, Jack and Bish.

That wing root is really the only drawback to a really fine kit, so hopefully Airfix will address it in the future.

I've got three more of these Hawk 81's hanging around, so I'd like to build an example from the 3rd Squadron of the AVG sometime.
