Hello all. Still pretty new to all of this, but I am liking all the builds I’ve lurking on. I would like to give my first GB a try. Can I get in on this? I only have a couple builds under my belt, but I have this guy I have been wanting to take a shot at ...

Sorry if if the image is jacked up, first time adding a photo, haha.

That looks great, Dan.  Nice and snowy.

Thank you for being part of the GB!  Your work is outstanding.

Do you have a choice for the finish-photo?  The photo in flight looks pretty dramatic--but that's just me.  Any one you pick will be good.

Dan, great job on this Stuka. Yes

That shot from underneath with the sky background is a beauty!

Thanks MancityFan: those square windows are much easier to mask than round ones.

Thanks Checkmate.

Thanks Tony.

Doc: Great work on the M3 Stuart.

Mike: Nice job on the P-47.

I took the Ju87 Stuka outside the other day, we have enough snow now on the ground so that grass doesn't show through. The main skids sit on the snow pretty well, the tail skid just sinks. The other head shot turned out great, the snow reflected a good amount of light onto to the bottom.

Thanks Checkmate for hosting this group build.

Here is the next installment of the M3 build. I have the hull done and the turret. So here are a few shots of the tank before getting a NATO Black base coat. I am going right to try using a Black base coat and work the Olive Drab over it. A lot of firsts for me on this build.

mawright, looks like you're learning the techniques pretty well.  Weathering is something I haven't got a decent handle on, so I don't do much of it.

I admire those who can, and your P-47 is impressive!

Greetings All! Well, with the new year, I’m going to work on some new kits. Just finished the Revell 1/48 P-47D Razorback. I have to thank everyone on the forums for the ideas and suggestions. I think with some of the ideas here, (while no Bish or Toshi! ;’)), I feel this is my personal best work yet. Being a previous military mechanic and aviator, I decided to try and weather something to look like it’s been worked hard in the field.  I would like other’s feedback on what they think of the wear and tear on this project.   Mike

Checkmate,

I also remember the Sgt. Rock comics too. Great times.

So, here’s an update on my M3. Got all the suspension together and then glued the hull. Even though this is an older kit, it goes together rather well. I did notice that the starboard rear fender is twisted a bit, so I applied some Irish persuasion so now it looks like “authentic battle damage!”

You're right, Doc.  It's in storage right now, but I googled it, and it is indeed an M5.  Even for a light tank, it's an impressive size at 1/6.

I used to get the "Haunted Tank" comics when I was a kid.  Enjoyed them along with Sgt. Rock of Easy Company.

Very nice, Steve.  I'm looking forward to see this come together.

I have a 1/6 scale Stuart, made years ago by 21st Century Toys.  I still think it's pretty sharp, but it must be a later version than the Tamiya kit, because the crew positions in the hull and the turret configuration are different.

Anyway, enjoy the build!

Thanks! If your Stuart is the one I just looked up then it’s the M5 version vs. the M3 which is the Tamiya kit. I have Tom say that is me impressive tank! Tamiya has a M5 version also, maybe I’ll pick it up if I like building this one. This one reminds me of the old comic book series “Haunted Tank” or something like that. The commander as named Jen Stuart and his tank was watched over by the ghost of Jen Stuart of The American Civil War fame.

Thanks for the add Checkmate!

Here is my entry for the GB. The oldie but goodie Tamiya 1/35 M3 Stuart. Here the obligatory box top and parts photos to start off with.

Welcome to the GB, Doc/Steve; very happy to have you join in!  I've updated the build roster with your Stuart.  Nice choice; I always thought it was a sharp looking vehicle.

Checkmate,

Do you mind if I join in with the venerable Tamiya 1/35 M3 Stuart? It will be my first attempt at an armored subject. So hopefully it will turn out okay.

Well done, Dan.  Great looking Stuka!  Should look right at home in its natural snowy environment.  Looking forward to seeing it there.

Nice work!  The decals came out especially well, and the canopy painting is flawless.

Thanks Tony.

Thanks Checkmate.

Thanks Bish.

Thanks Jgeratic: Nice job on the spitfire, a job well done. Like the Royal Blue paint scheme.

Thanks Lostagain: Excellent finish on the Marder. Looks like it's seen a few winters.

Andy: Nice finish on the 109, really like the winter camo scheme.

Finished the Junkers Ju87 Stuka on the last day of the year. After the paint work was done, I sprayed Testors glosscote 1261 on both sides. The decals were nice and thin, layed down great. Next I sealed them in with another coat of Testors glosscote. Then used Tamiya Panel Line Accent color black, first time using it and it turned out good. You can see it more on the bottom than the top. To remove the exccess wash I used a lighty damp q-tip with enamel thinner. Next was airbrushing Tamiya XF-1 for some exhaust streaks. Then final paint touch-ups and Tamiya XF-86 Flat Clear.

I'm very happy with how this large Stuka turned out. As it turns out the main skids are stiff from the paint, they do lay down some what flat. Wink

I plan to take more picture's, here in Ohio we have about a inch or two of snow on the ground and I plan to take it outside and get pictures on the ground in snow and in air flight. Stick out tongue
