D man thank. you the decals went on with no problems. I did use tamiya setting solution, but not bad for 1992 sheet.

Pat yes I generaly build out of the box except maybe decals. Hey its all good to me and thank you for your comments.

Hi,

Your Buffalo/Sky Pearl looks great.  Out of curiosity, as I understand it there were a few relatively minor extrnal differences between the B239 version of the plane flown by the Finnish Air Force and the B339 version flown by the RAF and RAAF.  I think it only inlcuded things like a slightly different shape to parts of the cowling, the shape of the tail cone, the tail wheel, and maybe the location of the exhausts, or something like that.  Did you (or are you) making any changes to your kit to kind of "backdate" the plane to the earlier version flown by the Finnish or are you planning to build it mostly straight out of the box?

Either way, it really looks great so far Big SmileYes

Nick, by "cal." do you mean calibrating the montior screen or something else?   Yeah, every now and then have to remind myself not to judge colours on the screen, just too many variables, but when the paint choices are revealed via brand label, then I do have a better idea on how to comment.

As far as the Urban's reference charts go over at ipmsstockholm.org, they have no listing of Tamiya paints to use for the Finnish Airforce of 1939-45:

http://www.ipmsstockholm.org/colorcharts/stuff_eng_colorcharts_finland.htm

There is a digital chart here, I only wish that sources that quote FS numbers would include how close or distant that value is compared to the actual paint:

regards,

Jack

Hey Nick, that Buffalo is looking great.  The old decals look like they went down like a champ.  That kit looks so good, now I want one!

Dwayne or Dman or just D.  All comments are welcome on my builds.

Nick, that is looking right smart with the Finnish markings.

Intersting choice of palette for the top colours, not that far off from the research produced in Finland.

Jack

Cm thank you started the masking this one is taking more time.

Tony it’s seems to slow down some . I walked away from this one dealing with some airbrush issues from that ak interactive stuff . It looks like the nosel as some clogging it sprays ok when trigger is all the way back but when pressed slightly it bubbles up in the cup.

Crown, another option for the Finnish olive green is FAA Dark Slate Grey (FS34906) , or at least that is what I've seen discussed elsewhere, referred to from a Finnish magazine publication.  The underside blue was also said to be a match to Luftwaffe RLM 65, as the Finns took a fancy to that shade after seeing it on the Do17's they received.

Anyhow, whatever paints you chose, look forward to seeing this.

regards,

Jack

Very glad to have your participation here, Nick.  That's looks like a nifty little Buffalo.  Stubby as they are, I think they kind of grow on you.

I'll update the build roster.

Hi CM I had so much fun with the 40,41 GB I just had to get another Bullalo, but this time what I bought for in 93, a finnish airforce Hans Wind form the continuation war 1941-1944 with the Russians in 1942 flying a brewster with 39 kills.

After the latest photo-hosting disaster, this with postimages, all the finished build photos vanished, along with the GB badge.  I have replace these, but if I've made mistakes in attributing builder and buildee, please post and let me know.

Sorry for the inconvenience!

Thanks Checkmate.

Thanks Bish.

Thanks Tony. The in flight picture was done with a wooden dowel rod and fishing line. Then I removed the fishing line in photoshop using the clone tool.
