I dealt with that on my 1/48 C-130.  At least there is a correction out there for it.

Just catching up after being on a lengthy business trip.  Haven't had a chance to build or post in almost 2 weeks.

Theuns, That Catalina is nice.  Quite striking in the silver scheme.

Keyda,  The C-130 is nice too.  Do you plan to show it at Noreastcon next month ?  The Buffalo and Rochester IPMS clubs are hosting Noreastcon in Batavia on May 19 and 20.

Mike, the 410 is coming together well.  Too bad about that twist - I've had that happen before too,  But even with a pretty severe twist - its pretty hard to notice unless you are looking at it straight on.  I suspect it will be the same with yours.

I'll offer one suggestion - because you asked . . . The german splinter camo schemes are strictly linear on the edges.  The only thing I see that doesn't look quite right is the one rounded portion of the dark green on the port wing.  Instead of a rounded "bump" like you'd see on a standard British scheme, the german spliter scheme would have that spot coming to a sharp point. 

B-one, how are all those aftermarket parts blending with the kit's parts ?   Looks like an extensive conversion.

Ed,  The 188 is coming along nicely.

Hope to finish up the Blenheim cockpit soon.  Just need some bench time.

Initial painting has begun, will wrap up painting the rest today hopefully

Construction has begun!  The kit in question is Airfix's classic 1/72 A-26 Invader.  While I expected the infestation of rivets, I did not anticipate the movable flying surfaces.  A trip to the LHS for sand paper and .005 strip stock is scheduled for tomorrow.  Markings will be Tanker 74 as flown by Rosenbalm Aviation, Inc., Medford, Oregon from 1968-1972.  Colors will be overall white with a black anti-glare panel.  The engine cowls, nacelles, wing tips, and vertical and horizontal tail surfaces will be painted red.  Markings are from Red Gecko Productions Fire Tankers No. 2.  Outside of making sure the colors are correct, I don't normally research the model I'm building.  For grins and giggles, I googled the tail number and discovered that not only did she survive her fire fighting career, but she lives in an air museum about two hours from me.  I guess a road trip is in order.  As she is now.

I forgot to add a couple of things.  The first is that there is some good work going on here, and I enjoy seeing and reading about your experiences. The second is that Theuns, you should finish the B-17 rather than consign it to shelf of Doom.  Older kits provide the opportunity to learn how to replace lost detail, or deal with fit issues, scratch building details, etc.  I would say this, don't worry about the lost detail, and concentrate your efforts on filling the seams and laying down the best finish you can.  Make it look pretty, and then put it on the shelf or hang it from your son's ceiling.  Nice job on the PBY.

That b-17 will be completed in the near future....I can not stand an unfinished model in a box taking up space, it just bugs the life out of me!

I have just been very busy lately with completing the molds and other tooling for a Mirage 3 RC model I have to make for someone and that takes up allot of time.

B-One - you've got a nice technique for that Air Force grey finish.  Always impressive to see someone give a little life to a monochromatic surface.

Here's an update.

The pit.  Very basic, but it looks like an A-26 pit.

The pit installed. Not much to see here folks.

The fuselage, in all its riveted splendor.

Not worried about the rear glass as they were either painted or faired over.

A bit-o-progress on the Blenheim.  Cockpit installed and the first coat of dark earth. Almost looks like a wooden Blenheim.

This one is making me a bit nervous.  The fit of the pit to the main fuselage wasn't very good.  It'll take some filler at the wing roots on both sides.  Then - dry fitting of two of the three canopy pieces wasn't smooth at all.  Everything seems too tight.  Hmmm.   I'll need to put the little grey cells to work on this one.

She's starting to look like an airplane now.  Shot the canopy with matte black for the interior canopy frames.  She's got her first coat of primer on her to see if I've missed anything.  Hopefully, will have the nacelles on tomorrow.  The mounting holes will also be filled with sprue.

B_one Fixer, the C-130 is looking good.

Everyones work is looking good ! I finished up the C-130J. Its finished as what the C-130J 5454 That was used on the around the world tour back in 1998. Later in her career she was converted to an EC-130J Commando solo III Tail Number 96-8153, which is how I modeled her as she looks today.

As far as construction goes I used the Attack squadron Nacelles and wheel well blister exstensions and added the aerials on the top from scratch. All the paints are MR color  Dk Gull grey lightened up with lt ghost grey in order to get me close to AMC Pride grey which is what this particular aircraft is currently wearing.

That is a fantastic looking Herc you built there, I really like the paintwork on it.

I got some primer on her today. Made some mini masks from the leftovers of the Eduard masks for my Phantom so now I'll have clear widscreens rather than the black decals from the kit. Not that there's anything to see inside other than the large bolt i put in for nose weight. lol

I'm quite proud of this seam. The 2 I've done before took hours of sanding and reworking. I got some forum advice on what i was doing wrong and viola, this one came out perfect first time, no filler!

Looks like that Invader is getting a good "rivet rub-down" Lew.   I'm sure it'll come out looking good.

B-One - again - that's a really impressive finish.  Some nice 130's produced here.

Mongoose - The C-54 is looking very smooth under that primer.  I know that Minicraft makes alot of 1/144 kits - but do you know if they make a 1/144 F-100 Super Sabre Thunderbird as is shown on the box art to go with it ? (I think that's an F-100)

Got a bit farther with painting . . . 

I mixed in a few drops of dark earth and sky-S to lighten the black a bit.  Then I'll use a full black panel line wash later.

Oooow !    Close-ups kinda highlight some defects: an underside seam that I didn't clean up very well, and some sink marks on the flaps that didn't look so bad when they weren't painted.   How much of this do I really want to fix ?  

I also did some more part trimming, cleanup, and silver painting- but that doesn't make for very interesting pictures.  Progress though !
