I have been itching to build a 1/48 Nichimo Type 97 Kate for a while so please sign me up.

Don't know just yet which carrier markings I will be using but probably EII-308 from the Zuikaku.

 

 

 

 

Will do as soon as I get to my office computer. Trying to work on a tablet is not going well.

 

 

 

No, the current forum format is not overly mobile friendly for editing older posts like GB photo rosters and such...

 

And I don't really like poking at an on-screen keyboard with a little stylus, either.  In high school typing class, we were drilled on using all our fingers--not just thumbs or a rubber-tipped stick.

What an excellent Lexington, Scott.  It is outstanding.  I really appreciate the tonal variations you achieved in painting.  It's an extremely appealing presentation. 

And the airgroup is more than impressive.

Everyone has done some great work in here....GM, yes sir your build is absolutely top shelf! Such wonderful detail. You guys definitely have my attention and have motivated me to really strive to do my best.

I am pretty much done now with the Lexington.  All that is left is to use some white oil paint to touch up the white caps on the water.  I will post a pic when that processs is complete, but until then, here is my project.

While I was rummaging through my stash for my 1/72 Aichi 'Val' I noticed the markings for my 1/72 Testors Dauntless are for a Coral Sea bird. Would you gentlemen (and ladies?) mind if I joined in with that kit?

 

Strictly objective view. That is an old Hawk kit and it's a real woofer. It will take a bunch of work to get it up to say Airfix quality.

You can probably find the Hawk mark inside it.

I would like to see a build of that Testors kit.

 Hee Hee, most of the time, the stars were stuck to the bottom of my index finger.  I lost one and found it on my bottom lip when I went to brush my teeth.

Decal solution and fine tweezers are also a must have for this application.  A shot of malt beverage may also be required.

Got a picture last night of the TBDs all marked up.  Man, my eyesight did not pick up nearly half the details the camera did.  I may have to do the rest of the planes under a microscope.

Man, that sucks about the molding issues on the Airfix kit.  As we discussed early on, I built the MPC kit, which was from an early run (1968) of the Airfix tooling, and the corrugations looked pretty good.  Maybe Airfix will come out with a new tooled TBD like they did of the Kate?

I like to see how this A-Z kit will come together, sounds interesting.

I got the decals on my TBD's last night.  Those little tail stripes were a pain because the tails were molded like perfect triangles.  They look kinda funny, but are not that bad so I'll keep them.

Whaaa  Whaa What????  Trashed the TBD?  Thats sad, was it the wings?  I stuck some braces in mine since the lightest bump would cause them to shear off.  

I've had a rash of "finicky" aircraft kits as of late, which is probably why I went back to 1/700 scale ships.  The Lex is a fast build if you don't include all the aircraft.  

 

Yeah, it was a combination of things:  the corrugations in the wings; poor fit of the wings to fuselage; etc., etc., etc.,  Got to be more headache than fun.

That is a big base GM.  I am still painting mine. It needed another coat and then I will be applying the gesso to simulate the waves.

Still putting decals on planes.  Gad, there are six to eight per plane, at 1/700, this is getting pretty mundane.

I certainly skipped the two on the bottom of the wings on the SBDs and F4F-3s and the tops of the folded TBDs.

 

 

I really considered it, at least on the aircraft that won't have the wings hanging over the side.  I also tried folding the wings, but that dang clear acrylic shatters.  I'm am not that impressed with Trumpeters 1/700 aircraft.  I'll still take their 1/350 planes any day.

Scott:  it does get tedious, doesn't it?  But that ship is looking good!

Had a massive failure with that Airfix Devastator, so I reverted to Plan B with it:  the trash can.  Have to look around for something else.  I do have Trumpeter's Lexington in 1/700 in the closet, and may try that--or Admiral's F4F-3, but it's a finicky kit; built one a few years ago.

Also had the home computer died, and I'm limited to using the computer at work, so my response time will be slower than normal.  Hopefully I can find time to get it back to Best Buy, but it's a trip of about an hour's drive away.
