After saying all that I decided to add a pin wash for the panels, and some filters just to make it a little mroe visually interesting. Usually I don't, but I'm in the mood to take my skills a little further.

With decals on but still glossy, here it is.

Cheers

It's very effective, Tony.

I have to be at a convention till Tuesday, and without computer access--so I won't be able to look in on things till I get back.

But please carry on!

Thanks Damian and CMK.

My standard method is to pre-shade the panel lines with black, the spray ligh coats of the base colour over it until I'm happy with it.

Then I lighten the base colur and thin it some more, and spray it lightly into the centre of each panel, letting to colour build up slowly.

The black pre shading means that I don't usually have to wash the panel lines either.

Turned out looking excellent, Tony!  Nicely shaded.

Nice work Tony, did you black base or something else as the results look great. Well Done!

There you go CMK. I'll have to touch up the undercarriage legs after I finish spraying.

I'm off to give it it's pre-shading now, and upper surface colour later today.

Hi CMK,

It didn't effect cleaning up the fuselage seam, but you have to mask it to spray the rest of the aircraft, which is awkward. I'll post a photo later.

I've wondered about the procedure to attach the landing gear before the fuselage is closed:  how it will affect cleaning up the fuselage seam and how difficult it will make masking the area prior to painting.

I cleaned up a lot of the washes after I installed it, but you really can't see anything anyway, once it's closed up with the canopy on. The undercarriage bay does look nicely cluttered though.

I primed it last night, I'll hopefully do any little fixes to it tonight and prime again.

Cheers

That does look like a nice little kit, Tony; some great detail.  I've ordered some from Hornby for myself.

You've done great work with it!

Thanks for the comments everyone. I went pretty hard on the F4F yesterday, and got it all closed up. It's a super little kit, and it's going to be the base of many more models for me. Progress pics below...

Cheers

Every once in a while I make progress on my B-26, mired in PE right now but it is coming along.

Glad to hear this, John.  Please keep at it and don't be concerned about how long it takes.

That does look really good, Tony.  I see it has the proper side consoles, too--something I haven't seen on any other Wildcat kit, either the -3 or -4.

I got stuck into the Airfix 1/72 F4F-4 last night. It's probably got the best cockpit I've seen on a 1/72 kit.

Glad you said that CMK, I've got a few things done on my Wildcat, but it should be a quick build. I think I can actually make the deadline this time.

Thanks, damouav.  I appreciate it.

I know what you mean about losing focus/interest; it's why I finished the Wildcat so late.

It's fine if you want to keep plugging along and posting updates.  I'm not fussy about finishing within the "official" time.  Better to take your time and do a good job!

Thanks for your participation in the GB!

Very nice work Check, well done.

I havent spent any time on my build since late November 2017, lost focus and some interest in my build. I may start a seperate build log for its completion and post on the GB the major completion stages till done.

Thanks for taking the time to host the GB.

Thanks, Dwayne; I appreciate it very much, especially in view of the great job you did with your Wildcat.  They look pretty good together on the front page.

I thought it was also remarkable how close the Navy Blue Gray matches on both planes!

Captain Archer also sends thanks for your comment!

Looks great, Check.  Good looking kitty too.  Paint job is excellent!

I haven't done a 1/72 single engine kit yet, but yours looks so good I am going to have to give it a try.

There isn't much time left before the GB runs officially out of time, so if you've started your project, please go ahead and finish--even if you overrun the deadline.

Anyway, here's my submission:  Academy's 1/72 F4F-4 Wildcat.

The engine is very simple.

Fuselage interior painted.

Some of the parts.

The only additions I added were some after market wheels, since the kit wheels are pretty needy.

Captain Archer the cat keeping an eye on things.

Final product:  I used a spare sheet of decals from Admiral's F4F-3 kit.  Paint was Colourcoats US Navy Blue-Gray topside and Light Gray underside.

The markings are for the plane (white 18) flown by Ens. Milton Tootle, Jr. from VF-3, defending Task Force 17 and USS Yorktown, on 4 June, 1942.

And that's it.

Hi, George:

I'm sorry that an Avenger from 1944 would not fit into the scope of this GB.  The Midway GB is intended for subjects that were actually present and participating during the 1942 battle.

However, there is a bomber GB going on, and the Avenger would no doubt fit into that one.

Thanks for your interest, though.
