I see what you mean. I have the same issue with Xtracolour. Our LHS has a very small selection, but i have to order the rest direct. I have a stash of paints of many of their colours, but i just had to order some high speed silver for the Canberra. Fortnatly i had to get some bits for my Stukas as well, so not to bad. But a pain when you just need one tin of paint.

Not sure I can find it localy. I can start on both right away if I can get the RAF Interior Green here without ordering it. I'll check a few places tonight if I can, if not tomorrow.

I was thinking of MM. It's more available here than Humbrol, but not sure if I can find RAF Interior Green here though.

Do you mean your not sure which one to get or you can't find it.

Yeah, I'm defenatly going to have to get that decal set also..So cool! That is a type 52 as well Stick out tongue

The decal set Gam gave a link to also has a Dinah with roundels. The Oscar, George and Nick on the sheet have US markings.

Go for it BK!! There a lots of ideas. Heck I may want to do that NMF RAF Zero.

BTW Bish. I may start on the Zero first because I need to get some paint for the Spit including RAF interior green grey.

Sounds good to me. Who's green are you going to get for the pit. Not sure if you use enamels, but Humbrol has a nice one.

I have the first set of Rising's 'Eagles of the Dying Sun' but they're all in US markings. Haven't used any yet but they look like really good decals, the print quality is very high.

And for anyone who caught the mention one page back of the Phantoms and might be interested, i was checking Hannants today and Airfix are going to release a 72nd FG.1 in Sept. It will hopefully come with RAF as well as RN markings, but if not there are AM ones out there. And with any luck, this will mean an FG.2 will follow soon after. So no need to hunt down those old Fujimi kits.

O no, i love stuff like that. Even if its not somthing i am likely to build myself, its always nice to learn and get an idea of what i am looking at with other peoples kits.

Got it added to the roster, and a nice addition to the variety we have on there.

No Problem, I'll be doing the type 52, B1-05. The decals you mad Gam found I could make either but since I have 3 type 52's in the stash I'll build one of those.

The Zeros are very hard to distinguish. There are very small differences between models from more powerful engines to folding wing tips or armament. Mostly you can't tell from looking at them. The exterior barley changed.

The biggest difference between the type 21 and 52 is a more powerful engine. One way you can tell is the type 21 had 2 exhaust outlets where the type 52 had 8 or 10.

Probably more than you wanted to know about the Zero right now.

No worries Steve, i'll put you down. So which one are you doing? The camo aircraft from the pic you posted or the one from the ROD decal set. I must admit i know next to nothing about Japanese aircraft. I can tell a Zero from a Betty but thats about it.

And i would be up for a captured GB as well. I think the closest thing was the Orphaned armour Gb a while back.

BK, if you do I may build the type 21 in the same markings, because…

 Tada! I have both!

Actually I have 2 more type 52s"
Strange to see Japanese kits in an RAF build.

Looking at those photos it appears to me that they were not repainted after capture and just stencilled up. The chipping is heavy on both. This is really gonna be cool. I've always wanted to do a captured GB.

Thank you both!! Gam, the set you pulled up is for the A6M2 type 52 (which I have) while Hannants has the one for the A6M2 Type 21 (which I think I have). I have several Zero kits....if you couldn't tell, I like Zeros.

YOU GUYS ROCK!!!

Bish, you know I couldn't just do an ole Spitfire and be happy with that. I like to throw in the odd subject now and again.

I’m not so sure. That may be the head rest you’re seeing. The cockpit from B1-05 (the type 52 in the background of the original picture) is at the Imperial War Museum in Duxford UK
BTW I found some 1/48 scale decals for the B1-12 (type 11 that bombed Pearl). I'm still looking for a 1/72 set.

Looks like both birds have a second seat added and two people in each pit.  I would suspect that the Japanese were flying since they would know the limitations and how far in the envelope they could go without structural failure, and the Allied guy in back was evaluating, not only the one he is in but the other as well.

Well found. I had guessed the SEA bit, but not a clue about the first part. You would have thoguht those pilots would already know. To the best of my knowledge, we didn't use German pilots to test their captured aircraft. I seem to recall Erich Brown saying he just had to get in a figure it out.

I hope your able to do this one.

Found it.

ATAIU-SEA (Allied Technical Air Intelligence Unit - South East Asia) was one of the joint Allied military intelligence units formed during World War II to recover Japanese aircraft

Nope, no idea. I believe your right about the original tail numbers. Looking into it, it seems like these are the only Zeros captured by the RAF. I know we shared a lot of info from the IJA, IJN aircraft we captured. It's interesting there were Japanese pilots who were evaluating them. Confused you would think they would already know all about them.

Oh lookie what I found! I have a few of these in the stash.
What do you think Bish? If not I still have plenty of options. I would still need to get decals (or paint) to adorn it.

A6M2 and A6M5 Zero in British Malaya being tested and evaluated by Japanese pilots under the supervision of Royal Air Force officers. The A6M5's cockpit survives today at the Imperial War Museum Duxford.

Yep, deffo, that counts under the rules. I was hoping we would get some, but expected they would be German. I have never seen captured Japanese aircraft before. The tail numbers are the original i guess, so its just the roundel and that writing. Any idea what that means.

Regardless, I'll find something else. But have narrowed it to the Tornado, P-40 or Ventura.

I'm also looking at the Lockheed Ventura. Xtradecal makes a set for the no 454 squadron. They were used for bombing runs where they were terrible. But whatever I come up with I'll need to order decals for it.

I need to get some paint for the Spit first.

That 454 aircraft would be nice. I have the Minicraft 72nd PV-1 but unfortunatly they don't do those decals in that scale.
