Yeah, the UK Phantoms were re-engined with Rolls Royce Speys which were more powerful but a bit more bulky so the F-4s had to be slightly modified.

Sorry, haven't gotten anything done with the Tempest so far. I'm going to try to finish up my halftrack and hopefully get back to the A-Wing before I start in earnest on this GB Bish.

Thats it, the engines. I was only looking a couple of weeks back but could not remeber last week. I think Fujimi made a kit at one point, not sure about larger scales.

And no worries, seems like i am keeping you busy with GB's Big Smile

Is it too late to throw in my Airfix 1 48th BP Defiant? Please forgive me...I am a newb.

Not to late at all. As with most GB's, you can sign up and add builds at any point. All i ask is that you have fun anbd post updates when ever you can oryou think the progress makes it worth while. Any questions, please ask. And welcome aboard.

I'm also looking at the Lockheed Ventura. Xtradecal makes a set for the no 454 squadron. They were used for bombing runs where they were terrible. But whatever I come up with I'll need to order decals for it.

I need to get some paint for the Spit first.

You are correct sir. Also the suggestion of how to run our convoys and darkning our costal cities against the U-boats. Of course we didn't listen and lost many many ships due to our arrogance.

Heck you guys named half our aircraft.

The British have contributed many valuable discoveries to the world.

Well, i think its the same with every nation in every war. They all have to re learn the lessons the hard way.

I also think it was us who started naming your tanks, i think it started with the Stuart.

Thanks for the link Bish i really want to do another subject along with the Spit. I need to make up for it you know Embarrassed

GH, I was thinking of the Corsair but remembered it was an FAA bird.

It was the was the British who taught us Yanks how to fly the Corsair property, as well as how to wake the Mustang to make it worth while.

They also tought us Radar, Sonar, centrifugal flow jet engines etc etc etc.

Indeed you do Big Smile.

I am not 100% certain, but i thnik it was suggestions from the RAF that lead to the B-17 being armed with all those .50 cal's after the Brits said it needed more firepower. Which seems a bit odd when you think about what British bombers were armed with.

Appreciate the clarification.  I know we sent a lot of alum. to help, both before and after the US got involved actively, but not all that up on which service used what.  Poked around on your link a little, surprised at how many seaplanes/anfibs were in RAF service/test.

BTW, nice letter in the current issue of FSM.

I must admit, i often have to check. Not all RN aircraft wear schemes that distinguish then clearly from the RAF, the Martlet (F4F) for example.

I had never realised just how many types the RAF had operated. Its a big list.

Thanks, never had a letter in there before.

I was just doing some checking before replying to GH above and found this page on the RAF site. It may help if your looking for inspiration or woundering is a subject works for this GB.

The 1912 to 1919 link seems to be broken, but all the rest are there.

I don't have any more RAF kits. I do have a couple of Thunderbolts and an Italian Tornado.

I'll might check for T-Bolt RAF decals and I don’t know if the Italian Tornado is different from the RAF Tornado but I can check.

Steve

Wildcats (don't know if the Hellcat made it over to the other side of the water or not), and later on some of the Phantoms as well might be possibilites.  Of course Mustangs and maybe the P40.

The British Phantoms were differant to the American ones. I would not mind an RAF Phantom myself, but from what i can figure, there has only been one kit. A lot of US aircraft in WW2 were used by us, but some, like the Wildcats and corsairs were only used by the Navy. But your right about the P-51 and P-40.

Ready to start.  Here are the sprues for the Airfix Hampden.  Lots of pieces.  On-line reviews say it goes together pretty well for an elderly kit.

Plenty of mold seams, flash and ejection marks to deal with before I can get to paint and assembly.

Nice looking pile of plastic you got there check. Looking forward to seeing what you do with it.

Shame on me but I don't believe I have any other RAF kits besides the Spit. I need to look though the stash to make sure.

Another option would be to take a different angle, such as an American built aircraft that flew in RAF colours.  A few that come to mind are Mustangs, Thunderbolts, and Aircobras.

regards,

Jack

Can't have an RAF build without a Mossy can we. Nice one GH, glad to have you on board.

We have a nice selection of subjects in this, from the ones you would expect to the ones not often seen. Thanks all. Only a few hours and we kick off, 00:01 GMT. I hope to be starting in a few days once i finish off my 162 trio.

Since I don't see a Mossy on the front page, I'll stick my nose in with the old Monogram 1/48 kit.  Can be done as an all black night fighter, so that will be a different bird than most.

And since it isn't a Spit, won't tend to irritate our hostBow DownBig Smile

Won't get a start on it till August or so though.

EBergerud

I think I'm finally got to be liberated from a nasty model ship and a nasty real world. Sign me up for a Tamiya 1/48 Beaufighter. (Does it need RAF markings? It did good service in the Med, but it was the best attack plane the Aussies and the NZ had in the Pacific.) I've got one of the Spitfires to back it up if need be. Maybe a Airfix Hurricane. Barring the "big one" I'll get you one at least.

Ye, it will need to be in RAF markings, but this can include any of the Aussie or NZ Squardrons that served with the RAF. Not sure if any of these were in the far East, but if your not sure, let me know the Sq number and i will have a look.
