Nice work on the pit there Justin. But just a note on the colur, the cockpits and exposed areas of RAF night bombers was black.

Another Oops

I followed the Airfix painting instructions for the HP Hampden, and ended up with this.

Closed up the fuselage already, but haven't posted until I get the photos over to PhotoBucket.

Instructions called for Interior Green on the crew areas, but fortunately black in the bomb bay.

Ought to teach me to do research and not be overly sanguine about the instructions in the kit.

Thanks, though, for the information, Bish.  I'll know better next time.

On a happier note, great work going on with the rest of the builds.  Exceptional work all around.

Tosji, that radar screen is something else, the rest of the panel looks good too. Wish I had your skill at knobs cause mine almost always look like they have been hit with a hair dryer to the point of melting. Speaking of pix, soon, (I hope), I will have a few shots of my Tempest cockpit. Trying to pin down the color reference I am most comfortable with. Big horizontal stab and rudder halves are put together, hadn't noticed til I started assy. there are no locator pins anywhere. Still gonna be a fun build.

Thank you armornut.  I have no special skills, I just used a really fine brush and 3.50 glasses.  Love to see the Tempest picks, looking forwards to it!

That's a neat little instrument box there, Toshi. Nicely painted (and decaled).

Thank you Greg.

I'm not too worried about the accuracy,  once my fuselage is closed up, 90 percent of it isn't visible. ...

Yeah it should be OK MC. I've got the base colours laid down for my figure. These can dry for a couple of days then I'll start the serious painting. These really just serve as a primer.

Cheers

Tony... I'll be following these close... I have ALWAYS struggled with figures and have never been able to do them justice. I can make them acceptable, but never like I really want.

Well good morning all... I did the decals and started panel lines and weathering last night. The drying and setting time is a necessity, but when I get to this point its like "Off to the races!" I can see the finished build in my head and I want to rush! Calm down... back away... You know this has to happen... Any way, heres what I have...

After applying decals I nearly always use Micro-set to ensure good adhesion to flat surfaces and / or Micro-sol to soften and set decals. Tamiya and Hasagawa decals usually take some work to get them to soften and lay flat. Micro-sol would not work on these, so I had to break out the Walthers solva-set. Much stronger and has never failed to attain a good adhesion.

Starting to do panel lines and weathering...

A little dry brushing with aluminium to show chipping and sand blasting wear. I'm fading the upper surfaces where the blistering African sun would sun bleach the finishes. To do that I just use a thin mix of sky geay very lightly applied to the individual panels.

One side is done , for comparison.

Well Thats about where I'm at at this time... Thanks for looking. Hope I'm not too long winded describing pics. Just trying to pass on my techniques, the way I've learned from others... Thanks, more later.

Doug,

I take it you airbrush the light grey for the fading?

Still waiting for my airbrush to return.

Great work Doug and thanks for the tip. I always want to get that worn look on the decals but never seem to get it. I'll have to give this a try.

Uh, Doug.....

I was looking fwd to a GB with you and you're gonna be done before I get started.

Looking good and I never did see what you did with those wing roots aside from your usual tape support whilst gluing the wings on. Turned out good though.

I guess I won't either.  There's not much visible with the fuselage of the Hampden closed up, and when the canopies are in place, there'll be less to see.

Good looking pilot and dog, Tony.  What kind of paint are you using?  Maybe I missed it if you mentioned it earlier.

That's great paintwork on your Typhoon, rigidrider.  Nice alternative to brown/green and gray/green.

Realistic looking cockpit, Toshi.  Exceptional detail.  Gives a lot to look at!

Thank you so much for the kind words.  The kit itself is highly detailed.
