Nicely fin9ished lewbud, really like the look of that. Great job on the scheme and i like the look of the invasion strips.

Will update front page as requested.

Can't beat a good Zulu double bill, but i always watch them the other way round.

mawright,

You might try wiping it down with rubbing alcohol before painting. It gets rid of the oils leftover from handling the model during construction. Also helps by picking up any sanding residue you might have missed.

Bish,

I'm sticking a fork in the Tempest and calling it done.  Finished her up yesterday after a double feature of Zulu, followed by Zulu Dawn.  Here are the pics.

For the front page, I like the third pic best. I've got a couple of other builds to knock out, but I'll be back.

Stuff happens. I’m already working on the next set...one of Airfix’s two plane set of RAF Defiant and Donier 17. Starting with the D17

Scott,

That kit may have been a sow's ear, but you definitely made a silk purse out of it.

Got back to the bench last night.  Canopy is on the Tempest, landing gear is attached, and all that's left is to attach the landing gear doors and she'll be done. Pics soon.

Oh wow, I've had chipping and peeling before but nothing to that extent. Good luck with dealing with it. Sorry, I don't think I have anything to add to what the guys already pointing out though.

I noticed that was the old Monogram kit.  I recall I did not prime it, just sprayed my top colors right on the plastic and also could not get paint to sitck to it.  In fact, my paint crazed when I applied my clearcoat.  I stripped it and then appllied a coat of Rustoleum primer and my acylics seemed to worked after that.

Sounds like you have the right idea on clear coating.  I usually apply it before any masking is required.

I used to use Humbrol all the time and now use Xtracolour, which are apparently made in the same factory. never seen anything like this, and i only recently started useing primer and never wash my parts. I would guess there was either something wrong with the primer or siomthign really nasty on the plastic.

Yeah, the primer peeled off too. I used whatever dish soap My wife had in the kitchen, haven’t had this problem in a hole. When do you use a clear coat? Prior to priming, or after painting base layers of paint? I usually use a gloss coat prior to decals followed by a flat coat to finish.

Is your primer peeling as it looks in the picture?  Is is also an acrylic?  You washed the parts, did you use a dish deteregent known to remove greese in order to pull off the mold release oils off the plastic?

When using acrylics, some of us have learned to give the model a topcoat of clear to help with reducing the risk of the tape pulling off the paint.

To thin thick acrylics for the airbrush, I have been using a saline/distilled water mix. About 70/30.

Question for anyone with the experience using Humbrol paints.  This is the first kit I’ve built using Humbrol products. It seems like it’s thicker than MM paints for brush use, as well as I’ve been unable to thin it out well enough to use in my Iwata CN airbrush. The other MAJOR problem I’m having is that the paint isn’t sticking well and often coming off under the tape. I did normal prep: wash, dry, prime witjh MM grey primer, etc. I ended up free-hand painting it with a brush. Any thoughts or advice are appreciated.   Mike

scottrc

Thanks everyone for the fine coments.  I was happy to be able to use the Aussie markings.  The roo gives it character.

Jack, hope to see that camel soon!

Bish, a story behind me putting on the decals, I was watching the "Good Neighbors, aka "Good Life" on Youtube and could not stop giggling while postioning the decals.  British humor that was worth acquiring.Big Smile

Now thats a blast from the past. Thats comes from the days of the proper British sit coms. My taste in humour has grown slightly darker and more sarcatic sincei used to watch those, but satill classic stuff.

Like the SE5a Scott, and that's a great choice of markings. It's come up well. Cheers Tony

I will now announce that I am done with my Roden 1/32 SE5 build.  Thank goodness for Wingnut Wings offering a duplicate set of decals. I must say, this kit was another one of those where I am just glad to be done with it.  I could dress it up more, but I am counting myself lucky that I got this far and the model is still in one piece.

Bish, use the first photo for the cover page.

Thanks everyone.

Nick, though I haven't a clue what a gloster meteor engine is, you surely made yours look great.

Thank you sir.   Makes sense.   Think I'll leave the interior except for the IP and seat detail green just for some contrast, since everything else is black.

Rocker: Looks great and I don't blame you with the masks. That turret would be a pain to cut out tape to mask.

Crown: Looks awesome. I think I said I built that kit a few years ago and it's a gem of a model, the engines are really well detailed.

I am no expert, but i would say everything in the pit would be black. I was lucky enough to get inside a Lancaster a few years back, and was sure to get plenty of pics. Everything visible through any glass was black, including the whole of the IP and the framing. It would make sense for the same to apply to nightfighters.

Bish - couple of questions since you would know better than I.

On a night fighter version of a Mosquito, would the inside of the canopy frame be in interior green or black? And are the IP's entirely black, or the main panel green with black instruments?

Finally got the interior painted green and getting started on her.  Better late than nevre.  Got a couple of pics, and will post up along with finished pit pics before I button it up.
