Thanks Gamera,

Yeah she look OK ;) Nothing really shows up with a Vaseline covered lens, or beer goggles.

DasBeav: I know what you mean, I've been tempted to use a hammer in modeling a few times. Looks fine in your photos though.

Doug: She looks great! And the Eurofighter is cool.

Chris: Ouch! I've had some issues with humidity and finish coats too. Not sure what can do, maybe put her somewhere hot like a car (but not too hot!) and see if it will bake the frosting out of the dull coat? I have no idea what happened to the decals. A pin and decal setting solution ought to be your best bet.

Damian: She looks pretty darn good to me! Nice work! Yes

"Bobby,  I wholeheartedly agree - those are three super unique, attractive aiframes.  Love the Camo on the Vulcan.  The Victor-Buc in-flight refueling dio is very impressive - especially with such large aircraft.  Nice job with the hoses too.  Guitar strings of various gages come in handy - I keep old strings around all the time for antennae, hoses, whatever."

Hey Chris,

Thanks for the comments.  They were all fun kits to build.  I've used guitar strings for antennas before but hadn't even thought of using them for hoses and such.  They turned out pretty good.  The big E was perfect for the job.  LOL!

Hey Bish,

Thank you for your continued support for us less than perfect modellers out their.

But not bad for a convict...  But serisouly, I had a blast watching all the other builds come along and the results we have seen, are just Fantastic.

I will certainly be dropping in for a look on a regular basis until I decide on my next project for the RAF 100th Aniversery GB.

Catch you soon,

Damian

Fred,

Thanks for your feedback.

I had a some what enjoyable time building her, I learned new skills, and still had not learned from past mistakes...

I may build another in time, but I have some really cool builds coming up that I'm egar to finish and/or start.

Today is a sad day, today I place the completed sign on my De Haviland Mosquito NF Mk. XVII build.

Bish, thank you for allowing my to be part of some of the best builds I have seen to date.

So, here you go.

I wanted to wait for the parts to arrive for my "flocker" to l produce more realistic grass, but it was going to take weeks. The base isnt perfect, but first time round it isn't bad... Just need a little black paint around the base of the dioarama.

Just wish dirt and grime hadn't gotten on the inside of the canopy...

I had such a great time and I hate goodbyes, so if Bish and others can put up with my dummy spits I would like to add another build, what, I have no idea.

Thanks again,

Damian

Doug - Superb, simple Superb! Excellent work on the Hurricane, I look forward Euro fighter.

Chris - Thank you for your kind words, your Hurricane is another excellent example, I feel your decal pain.

DasBeav - I truly feel your pain and frustration, I nearly smashed  my mossie against the wall on several occasions during the build, I decided to walk away and look at it on a new day. Besides your hassels it truly is inspiring to see another great build in progress.

Hello All,

To the Hurricane Crowd . . .

Fred,  I'm diggin all this micro-scratch-building.  Cannon bays and Engine look nice - Ya just don't usually see that much work being put into most 1/72 tiny single engine fighter builds.

Doug,  Nice little gem you've got there !   Nice clean antenna.  What's your method for that ?  In 1/72 I usually can't get mine to look that clean at the attachment points.

Andy, Pit looks nice !

And What ?  Hurricane Steve is now brewing in North Africa ?    Sweet !

Damien,  The Mossie looks really nice, you've done a great job recovering the finish, and that fine original paint job comes through.

Beav,  The smoothness of the finish with primer looks really good !

Soldier on guys !   I'm having a hard time noticing the problem areas you guys are talking about.  I know how it is being the builder and seeing everything up close and un hidden - but seriously - both those builds look very good from this point of view.

"SMEH" - Ha !  That really did make me audibly laugh.  Big Smile  (Not just one of those "lol's" that people type as a reflex after making a sniffing sound in their nose.)

Bobby,  I wholeheartedly agree - those are three super unique, attractive aiframes.  Love the Camo on the Vulcan.  The Victor-Buc in-flight refueling dio is very impressive - especially with such large aircraft.  Nice job with the hoses too.  Guitar strings of various gages come in handy - I keep old strings around all the time for antennae, hoses, whatever.

So - I'm more than a bit disappointed in my Dullcoat.   Trying to figure out how to recover from this one.  I'll start by saying that it has been prettywarm and very humid here in Western NY last week.  On top of that, the dehumidifier in my basement gave up the ghost at the same time (or at least gave up the refrigerant).  So my work area has been damp. I was good - I let the future set for days, put on the decals, took care of the whitening and a little bit of silvering with a "paint over", gave another future coat and waited more days.  The weather front came through to offer a little relief from the humidity - so I figured I could hit it with Dullcoat.  Here's what I got . . .

Various degrees of "frostiness".  I'm hoping some buffing and a second coat of dullcoat can bring it back to a normal dullcoat finish (after she gets dehumidified for a while).

It definitely had the effect of increasing the panel line darkening - it just didn't frost around the panel lines.

If the coating was a bit more subdued and more uniform - I'd let it go because in some spots it looks like a pretty convincing "fade" to the finish.

And then there's the decals . . .   The fuselage roundels and codes bubbled up after the dullcoat was applied - and they didn't drop back when it all dried.  I don't know if pricking them with a pin and applying future will work to suck them down now.

Too bad.  I was really pumped about how this was looking after the last round of painting.  I gotta try something after bringing her this far.

Man... Page after page of the best work... Planes I had never heard of before... Trouble or not, they are still looking pretty darned good! Any way, I got to do  decals on the little ole Air fix Hurricane, and I think it will be OK. (I Hope)...

Well it all moved along pretty fast and before I knew it, here she is completed...

Now, on to the Euro Fighter... This is one cool looking aircraft, Think I'm gonna like building this one.

More in a bit! Take care all!!!

Night  #2 of priming and all went well. I did expose many, many flaws which I am debating whether to "repair. Probably will and will probably make it worse! I am now referring to the Smer Supermarine Walrus as "sMEH"Indifferent because I have become quite ambivalent towards it.

Well, here is where I am at. After a weeks break of fun and sun, I went back to the Smer Supermarine Walrus. While I can say the scratch-building of the interior was fun, assembling this sad excuse of a model has been testing my patience. You could build another model with all of the styrene I have cut, filed, and sanded off this mound of fecal matter. Has a model ever fallen off a bench and been accidently stepped on 3 or 4 times? LOL After breaking and bending a few spars and PSR a ton of gaps and such, it was off to primer...it fell off the stand and broke off the tail wheel. NO MORE PRIMING TONIGHT!

P.S. I do like the Stnylrez.

Pray for me...

DougSad

looking good despite your problems mate , but dreading opening the box as  i got this kit in my tiny stash so i will be building it lol

I may have embellished a little as I am taking a creative writing course. It has alot of flash, every spar has sinkmarks, and it has tiny gaps from the molds on fusalage. The canopy has some blemishes, the instructions are rather vague, and some things just don't feel like they fit right. I hope you didn't spend more than the 8$ I did. I will admit some of the problems were "manmade" as I have never done a bi-plane. BTW, in my research I learned the engine is 3? degrees offset, and my engine and nacellle seem more like 10 and I still question if Smer even knew they were offset and thatsjust the way it ended up. I'll pray you have better luck with it than I did. I am hoping a good bit of paint does wonders.

Rooster:  great detailed work!  Very nice.

AA:  those old Spitfire kits weren't bad; yours is looking great--particularly well-done pilot figure.

Gamera,

Thanks!  I surprised myself at how well the pilot came out, seeing as how it was the first time I've tried painting 1/72 figures. Mostly I've just done 1/35, along with a few 1/48 figures.  Boy, that pilot was TINY.

Bish

Missed that one Andy. Looks god there, did those gun bays come with the kit.

Yeah they did Bish, which is nice. They are pretty basic and I'm sure they could be dressed up a little with some scratch work. Building them up did seem to affect the fit of the topside wing but I was able to get it glued up ok.

Great work so far everybody!

Bish, this is where I am. Some of this was done prior to the GB start but since I've got one gunbay opened up and I drilled out the gunports. I've assembled the wings and have a bit of filling and sanding ahead of me...

Hmmm, okay, I'll try posting them to another site.  I tried this new Canon Image Gateway site (I get 10 GB of image storage for free for being a Canon customer) but if it's nt allowing others to see it (even though it SAYS it's for photo sharing), I'll go back and post them to the old site I was using...

Steve: Ohhhh, looks cool!

AA: Hmmm, I can't see your photos. And clicking I'm being asked to sign on to the photo site.

Taking time in between the parts of my 1/48 diorama to knock out a quick little build of this 1/72 scale, old (Vintage 1974!) Spitfire kit from Airfix:

Bish,

I got back from Dallas and guess what was sitting of our doorstep. The 1/48 Italeri Hurricane Mk. 1 Trop.

Put me down for this one as well.

I will probably be doing it in one of the 73 Squadron markings in 1941.
