Good stuff all around guys. Well, I have kicked off my first build, so now I have to get my butt in gear and run this GB properly. Apologies for not doing so over the past couple of months. No more excuses on my part.

So I am going to build the 1964 vintage 1/48 Hurricane. I am building this as a ceiling hangar for my great nephew who loves planes, so aside from drilling or thinning some stuff here and there, this will be OOB. And replacing the decals, due to kit ones looking quite questionable. This kit has been in my stash for probably 25 years or so...

And here is the copyright date inside the wing...

I started with painting the cockpit interior of course... I am going old old school here, handbrushing enamels...

And I glued the wings together... there was a bit of warp to deal with...

Finished the P-51D (or F-51 with the Tamiya decals)-I gave consideration to putting the Tamiya drop tanks on (painted as napalm tanks) but it wasn't a good fit-the bombs would probably work. This one will become a test bed for future projects, i.e., weathering, paint schemes, etc.

Wow Bob, that was a Fast Build! Nice work!

I know there ae a bunch of these that are vintage molds Stick, but it's even cooler with a vintage box.  Great pick for your Great Nephew!

This kit has been in my stash for probably 25 years or so...

It has been waiting patiently for it's time. Now it's been put to the use it was intended back in '64, hanging from a kids bedroom ceiling.

Good to see...

Cheers

So in starting the 2 F-106s I figured whats one more.  Not sure if I have the room to juggle all three at once but I'm going to give it a try.

Finally finished and with a week to spare. Many, many flaws, but with my superb photography skills, I have hidden most of them. It wouln't be the worst model if it came with a one piece nose option and better "glass". Now back to building again since college football is officially over, enjoy.

So after I finished with the painting and decaling phase, I decided that the kit just does not look right without the antenna stub on the fin, which I had knocked off at some point in the construction process.  I hacked a rough shape out of sheet styrene, and took it as a sign to proceed after 1) the shape was actually acceptable and 2) The new part did not fly off into oblivion while I was gently holding it in the tweezers while sanding it down...

Nice work on Marge there Beav. I know how challenging that kit is, and you overcame that.

CB, nice fix on the tail mast. You’re right, it does not look the same without the mast.

Thanks, Stik and CB. I like the mottling on the 190. Need to learn that skill. It was a fun GB. Thanks for letting me participate, Don Stik.

Here are my update photos from the last few days of work on the Hurricane.

I painted up the pilot, sealed the fuselage, glued on the wings, tail planes, landing gear, chin scoop, oil cooler, and bomb racks...

i have started the camo painting, but no photos of that yet...

That looks great, Stik.

I made a bunch of progress on my Avanti. The instructions are dog doo, just have to stick stuff together based on intuition.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Thanks GM. I love the old instructions for this kit. So thorough in their explanation of what to do. A far cry from most of today’s pictures only international style of sheets.

All I can say now is that I’ve lost my hand brushing skills after 30 years of airbrushing... we shall see how this part works out.

Don Stik, I need to be fitted for cement overshoes as I didn’t get the Stearman done in the 6 month window.  The weather got too cold for the wood stove to keep the works warm enough to spray paint.  I’ll dig around and see what I’ve got to make another attempt.

Nice work on the Hurricane, Stik, and very nice finish on the 190 CB. These old kits still look good after a good modeller works them over !

Cheers

Thank you Tony. I’m keeping it as simple as can be with this one.

Shamoo, you can start a new pair in six months if you feel so inclined... unless you’d rather get those shoes....

And here are the updates on my Hurricane. Last Saturday I put down a base coat of Humbrol Midstone on the upper surfaces.

Then today I did the upper camo pattern of Dark Earth followed by the lowers in Azure... all Humbrol enamels

Hi stik, sign me up! I'd like to enter a Monogram 1/48 F4F Wildcat and I'm undecided about the second one. I'm thinking a ME 262 or the SBD Dauntless. The design and molds on both kits are older, but I think the manufacturing is done outside the US. Will either one qualify for the group build?

UP, either the SBD or the 262 will work, as they are both original Monogram kits. The SBD is from the 60’s and the 262 from around 80 or so. Remember it’s two completions within six months of your start date.

Ill get you on the roster here.

Stick, The Hurricane is looking quite nice.

I have moved back to the P-47. Time to mask cowl checkers. What a pain. Notice my major screw up in one of the pictures below? That was a bonehead move!

Just 3 more rows of checkers to go! This is worse then masking a Ju-188 canopy.
