Dawg, when Monogram re issued the TBD in the 90's, they did it in the original white box, like they did with several others that were also re popped in their original smaller older blue boxes. As well as the instructions and decals being identical to the original. But the re pops all came with an embroidered patch. Later they reissued the TBD in a new bigger box, with new decals (VT-6 at Wake Island Raid, Pre War Yellow Wing, and Midway), and a Detail and Scale book on USN WWII Dive and Torpedo Bombers. Good stuff.

CB, IIRC, the P-47 had its cockpit painted Dull Dark Green. Which is supposed to be a near match to Medium Green 42/Medium Green FS# 34092. Since Testors whacked Polly Scale Foliage Green. Humbrol 30, Dark Green would work also. Your Jug is progressing quickly.

What can I say. I'm off to a good start I think I can say.. Got da interior base coat done so  I should be able to finish the c/p painting and button up the fuselage tonight. I also taped the cowning in place and added mounting tabs for the cowling made from some "L" shaped styrene...

Oh yea, One more ting. I used Tamiya Khaki Drab for the cockpit color. What youse guys think of that shade? I normally use "Polly" scale foilage green for my P-47 cockpits, but as some of youse guys may know, Polly got whacked by Testors on the causway...

Lookin' good, my man! Are those "modeling elves" or "modeling gremlins" on the kit? Either way, they're pretty cool!

If they don't, send me a PM. I have some of the same decals in my stash from previous TBD builds. I know one set is from the 90's re issue, so those are only 20 some odd years old Wink

You'll just need to source your own stars. I always use those.

Thanks, Stik! I'll keep that in mind.

Didn't realize this kit had been reissued in the '90s. I have noticed a copyright mark on the bottom of the center wing section (of course, it's on the VISIBLE portion of it!!) of MMI, which, to me, means 2001. Everything else in the box is marked 1974, including the box. Decals have no copyright date, but the back of the sheet sure looks like the old way Monogram used to print the instructions on the back. I'll upload a picture of it soon (wing center section and back of decals).

CBaltrin, that was hilarious!!! You should do a little video like that with each step of your build. Loved it!!

Thanks DD, that would take quite some time, but rest assured, it's not going to be my last video!

Dawg, those are two super selections. You can use as little or as much after market as you prefer, including decals. Or you can build straight OOB, the choice is yours.

Thanks, Stik. That's good to know. I might wind up using the kit decals after all. They don't look as bad as I thought they did, so they just might hold up, even after 43 years. Guess I'll know for sure when they hit the water.

DD,   Finally someone's "TBD" entry is actually going to be a TBD! Great kit, and thank you so much for doing a yellow wings version! perrty perrty!

Thanks, buddy! The last/only time I did a Yellow Wings plane was the XF5F-1 about 15 years ago, and I remember it was a lot easier to paint than I thought at the time, so I'm very much looking forward to this one. Always loved that paint scheme. I've got a Tamiya 1/48th F4F-3 Wildcat that just might get a similar paint job, too...

Shamon, you're off to a fine start! OOB sounds good. Then you just need to find a nice section of Carrier deck for a base vignette with the figures.

Happy 4th, everyone.  Here we go:

First up is the SBD.  Strictly what's in the box.  Going to attempt to have the working landing gear, bomb drop, etc. all actually work.  Will try and do some weathering as well, a first for me.  Them kit also comes with a couiple groumnd crew and a bomb? cart.  I'll try and work up some type of diorama with these as well.

The victim:

Flaps drilled out.  Very tedious.

Last of the current progress.  After I painted realized i didn't do anything with the ejector marks.  Luckily test fitting showed that once assembled they are hidden anyway.

Updates when they happen.

So, here are my two entries for the Group Build -

Monogram Douglas TBD-1 Devastator

The Monogram 1/48th Douglas TBD-1 Devastator. I bought this kit last year from a fellow club member, and didn't think that I'd get to it this quickly. It will definitely be a Yellow Wings version, but I probably won't use the kit decals. Wait - Don Stik, do the kit decals need to be used to qualify, or can aftermarket decals be used?

Monogram Pro-Modeler 1/48th Douglas A-26B Invader My second entry is the Monogram Pro-Modeler 1/48th Douglas A-26B Invader. I won this kit in a raffle many, many years ago (about 22), and it's been languishing in the stash ever since. Really looking forward to getting this one completed, too.

Until typing in this info, I didn't realize that I had chosen two Douglas designs for the build.  Hmmmmmmm........ wonder if that has any significant meaning.

My wife bought me the latest Squadron "In Action" book for the A-26/B-26 for this past Christmas, so I'm somewhat well-prepared for reference info for the Invader, plus whatever I can get off of the Internet. Just need to get some reference info for the Devastator.

Good Luck to everyone participating in this Group Build!!

It's in all the mafia movies. If the fellas come to take you for a ride, put you in the front passenger seat, and one of them sits behind you... you're gonna get whacked.

Ahhhhh, I gotcha. I had never noticed that in the movies. I'm gonna have to go and watch all of the "Godfather" movies again while I'm building.

Hey, maybe that should be a rule for the group build! Everyone HAS to watch the "Godfather" while building their kits!! Toast Yeah

LMAO CB!!! That was too funny! Gloves for no prints?

B_one, I have that same big beauty in my stash. But no room for it currently  I were to build it anytime soon. I am certainly going to enjoy watching your project.

Been wanting to start this kit for years. So it will be the first one I will build for this group build. I have a set of wolfpack resin seats for this somewhere.

Looks like a winner B1!

Don Stik, forgive me for brining up this delicate situation, but it appears we have unfinished family business in the mafia III GB. It appears my P-51D has not made it on the roster page to say nothing of my 2nd build 'Miss Behave'.  I respectfully hope we can clear this up before we kick off mafia IV. What can I say....
