Got the mains assembled painted and detailed. Made the brake lines from thin wire and the fittings from masking tape and a tiny drop of thin CA to secure them. Made my own strut placards at the copier from another sheet. Afterwards a dark wash of burnt umber helped to pop details and gives a grimy look. Some chips need some re touching to show up better. A #2 pencil was used for the oleo strut color instead of paint. The grahite gives it a realistic metallic sheen.

the leg actuators from the box

And after my mods. Wrapped thin copper wire around one arm and thin wiring for added plumbing.

The tail wheel and main tires are done too

Also went back and extended the spiral to the back plate by painting it flat white with a small thin brush

Getting ready for decals in a bit.

MM...Jack...Thank you sirs. That was done with acrylics, I've been toying with oils lately, but just decided to go w/air brush and dry brushed acrylics this time.

Bish, Thats good, I really do like your dios, always very original and I like the lettering and "Titles" you put on. As to the paint scheme, while looking for a subject, I just happened to see it on a decal sheet and liked the overall brown and grey with the dark grey and  green accents. Unusual, thats for sure.

PJ... looking amazing! Gear looks like it would actually function! You can get Tenex? I love  that stuff... We were tod here that it was no longer available.

Thanks Doug. I think the little placards add more to the look. The brake lines were very eay to make and so were the fitings.

I see Tenax at a couple of the stores i go to and was unaware of what you said but Plast I Weld from Flex A File is the same thing.

Morning Bish... I looked up FW190-D colors, and this is one of the pages that came up. It looks like they are available  as fw190d Jg2 from piezaapieza.net in 1/72 scale. The top two were the ones that caught my eye. Mainly brown and drk grey and green mottle.

PJ Thanks, I have seen the others you mentioned, The only thing I've tried that works about as well was the Tamiya thin, but nothing I've used thus far is good as the Tenex... Thanks for the tip!

Looks like the Hasegawa decals are beyond repair. Even after brushing several coats of Superfilm they eventually fracture. No biggie since Eaglecal #58 decal sheet is easily available online but will check first with my LHS as soon as they open.

EDIT: Nothing locally so an order was placed with SB that should be here within 3 days or so. Cheaper than ebay and way faster shipping so ebay is sometimes NOT the best option.

Hey guys I've got a quick question. The photo below is from a book I recently purchased on the 190. It shows the aerial wire inside the cockpit and going to the raido I assume? I haven't seen this depicted before and found it interesting. The question I have is when the cockpit is open should the aerial wire be drooping or tight? Seems to me unless there is a retraction system of some sort behind the cockpit to maintain tension it would droop. I've seen it done both ways (drooped and tight) on models before but wasn't sure which would be correct. I haven't seen a time period photo showing this b/c the wires can be very difficult to see in the typically grainy photos. Here's the pic I took:

Another question I suppose would be what is the wire going to the headrest for? This is an illustration so I'm unsure of the accuracy honestly.

PJ - I love the work on that spinner spiral. Great job!

Roster: I really like how the weathering is going on that. Nice and subtle and super realistic.

Quick update on the Dora:

I got major components together and in primer, when I took the below shot. Since then, I've painted the black and white JG26 fuselage band as well as the yellow tail, painted a base coat of Alclad Polished Aluminum on the wing roots for future chipping, and managed to get some of the RLM76 down on the right side, but didn't take a pic yet.

Untitled

So, it's coming along, and I am actually liking the shape of this one a bit now, especially with the Ta-152 tail. It looks so janky it's almost cute.

Andy - That particular early flat canopy had a wire roller assebmly built in that kept the antennae tight during during high G's and high speeds.  It had a spring wound roller that kept the antennae wire tight when the canopy was opened.

Thanks BD!

Rooster the wires are part of a frame pulley system. Some canopies had a retracting spool for the wire others didn't and simply drooped down the side as in the blown type Dora canopies. I will eventually get to that detail too.

Andy... Like Mopar said, that one is tentioned. When you see the wire on the inside go back into the fuse, then loop back up and reattach where it enters the canopy, it generally has a tentioner on it. Some didn't, and would droop when opened.

About finished with the weathering and the rest, The Dio, (just a place to mount it) not done yet, but it will be by sometime tomorrow.

The next few pictures are the finished but not yet mounted on "Hard stand" and I will send finished pics likely tomorrow.

Doug, fantastic job on that. Yes

Right down to even adding oil/fuel stains on the ground decking - very thoughtful.
