Andy, the freehand camo looks great!

Brandon, love how your Fw is looking.  The MrColor seems more vibrant than the Vallejo paint I’m using.  Might have to check that stuff out.

John, the 1/72 plane is looking mighty fine indeed, and a great save on the prop!  Looks like the 1/48 A-5 is going to be another looker too.  Are you going to paint the red/white parts of the cowl, or does the kit come with decals for that?  Either technique seems daunting to me.

PJ, your Dora is looking sweet.

Nick, your 109 looks awesome.  Really like the mottling.

Cheers, Mark

Thanks everyone for the encouraging words on my Fw 190.  I've been pushing on, and finally got some paint down over the last few days.  I'm a bit happier with it now, though I still don't like the mishappen nose.  hahaha....

Black-basing this one:

Light blue marble coat went on pretty good.

Forgot to take some intermediate pics of the camo layers going down.  So these pics are after everything was mostly done.  (I had to go back and add a bit more mottling to the fuselage after these pics were taken.)

I never knew before this build, that some Fw-190's had bare metal areas on the underside.  After my last couple builds, I was looking forward to not having to mess with NMF.  D'oh!  Big Smile   It came out satifactorily though.

Next step is to paint the fuselage bands.  Then on to decals.

Cheers, Mark

Nick and Mark, both paint jobs look super. Something about those fighters that's addictive.

I have been working on the early canopy retracting pulleys and the remaining tiny stencils.

Pictures to follow soon.

Mark - I like the aluminum effect on the undersides and the mottling looks great.

Update #3.  She’s primed, sanded, masked and ready to paint!  I’ve never painted anything this intricate so I am breaking new ground!  I think I have a plan so we’ll see how it goes. My helper decided to make an appearance too.  She grabbed a rubber band off my desk and is in the middle of a quick getaway.

Good recovery John. By any chance, is your chair on rollers.

No, it just fell out of the front of the plane right at my feet and my big clown feet smashed it.  And I never saw it fall!

Mines usually the chair. I will drop somthing, move the chair back to look for it and run the part over with a wheel.

Mark, nice job on the mottling and the NMF has come out really well.

The NMF on German aircraft was a late war thing, but its often difficult to prove for specific aircraft.

MM

She's looking great. hey be thankful your furry companion just took that only LOL.

Have been working on the canopy details so here's what I did. Very carefully I drilled down into the canopy so the aerial can come in clear thru. It will attach to the rear bottom of the frame.

Scrap pe pieces were trimmed to make the top canopy frame wire brackets. Used my mini drill bits to create a clearance slot on the top brace so the antenna wire can go thru and attach to the pulley at the bottom rear that I made from stretched sprue.

Wires attached and threaded thru the pe gussets aft. Once the CA securing the wires is dry they will be trimmed. A simple pulley was made from sprue and will have the antenna wire attached once the plane is completed.

This is how they look

The bottom antenna was cleaned up and the thick plastic tip sliced off and replaced wih thin surgical wire ca'd in place. Next will be painting it then attaching it to the Dora's belly.

This is how they look

That looks great PJ! So the two wires that you have already attached are not part of the antenna wire system or are they? Just trying to better understand how it works.

Thanks guys!

That G looks sweet Crown!

Andy,  it's part of a bracing set up, read here:

http://forum.largescaleplanes.com/index.php?showtopic=31798

According to the link, they had single and double wire bracing depending on the aircraft so I just went with the easier route with single bracing.

PJ - Those canopy details are awesome.  You continue to amaze me.

Nick - Decals look great, really sharp and clean looking.

I spent about half the day yesterday working on the fuselage bands.  This meant masking, painting, masking again, painting again...  etc.  I'm quite happy with the results though.  The red is slightly darker than the red of the number decal but it's close enough for me.

This morning I got all the major decals on, and about half the stencils.  I put the cross on top the right wing in the wrong position and didn't realize it until after it was already set, so I couldn't reposition it.  (I mistakenly lined up the outside of the cross on a panel line, instead of the inside of the cross)  So of course the cross on the left wing was intentionally placed in the same incorrect position.  They look a bit weird to my eye, but I can live with it.

I hope to finish the stencils tonight and then start weathering.  Entering the home stretch!  Yay!

Cheers, Mark

Mopar Madness - great job on that, and it's cool to see Eduard's newest coming together.

PJ - Nice work on the antenna wire. That looks sweet.

Nick - Good work on that. Love the paintwork.

Mark - Man, Eduard didn't give you a decal for that? How annoying, but you nailed it.

To rooster513 and whomever is helping rooster513 out,

If I may rooster513 with your permission, I’d like to join your GB.  I have a Trumpeter 1/32 Messerschmitt Bf 109G-6 (Late Version).  I’d like to post a WIP from the actual boxed kit to the finished product.  Please let me know if I’m able to join?  Just to let you know, my builds are nowhere close to everyone’s kits that have entered your GB.  Thank you so very much in advance!

Hey crown, that G is 1/72? Looks sweet.

I have been busy doing another kind of painting, like the walls of our laundry room. The washer finally gave out after 11 years of faithful service so the wife wants new paint on the walls before the new dryer and washer get here.

So  another update on my Dora.

Hasegawa dropped the ball here with the dash padding/coaming. It's missing a piece for the Revi sight to sit in which is absolutely wrong.

So the first thing to do here was to add some stretched sprue to match the rest of the padding.

I did some minor surgery on the Revi16B sight to make it fit in the square and added the glass pieces to it. I have resin ones but the Hasegawa sight was equally well made so I used it for this build.  I also see in the picture the white is showing on the inside of the seatbelts . I need to touch up those to get rid of that white color.

I also attached the boarding ladder, loop and small straight antenna. The smaller antenna is a piece of very thin metal.

For the pitot tube, the thiiner part was replaced with .004 brass pipe into a drilled hole in the thicker plastic part.
