Nice work, PJ. That spotting on the nose gives it a lot of interest, and I love the mottling.

Ok, so I got paint on my Dora.

This one is a late-war bird with the Ta-152 tail and was part of JG26 for the Defense of the Reich.

Paints are Mr. Color RLM 76 for the sides and underside of the fuselage as well as the tops of the wings and ailerons, Mr. Paint RLM 81 for the brown violet (which color I had to do a triple-take on to make sure it's right, but it seems it is), and Tamiya Green for the other camo color. Tail is Tamiya Yellow, and the bare metal on the underside of the wings is Alclad Airframe Aluminum sprayed over basic Mr. Surfacing FInisher 1500 Black (NOT gloss black, as I don't want it very shiny).

Prop and hub just got a coat of Tamiya Black Green, and once they are dry, I'll apply the spinner spiral decal and attach them to the cowling so I can glue it on (it's just pressed in place at the moment).

Hoping to get decals on the Dora today.

But this build's title is making me think...

Bish - I love that diorama. It looks dead on like the pics I've seen. Really nice job, and I always love your display bases and the ID cards you make.

Whoops, just noticed those black spots on the left side of the fuselage under the cockpit - those are chipping fluid mistakes, and I need to fix that now.

Thanks Brandon. I used several pics as referance, many supplied by otehrs on the forum, but there was one in particular, the one that gave me the idea for the raised tail, and i tried to keep it close, but not exactly, like that.

Lovely job on the Dora, really nice with the NMF underside.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Thanks Bish. One of the tank decals is just a tad too big and a couple of letters go over the lip. I din't see it till tey were on but I'll know better the next time.

The Dora is looking great and very colorful. My next one will be a very late war partial NMF Dora for an article. Can't wait to get started on that one. The biggest pain will be all the documentaion needed for an article submission.

How do you like the Mr. Color paints? I believe they are acrylics but solvent based that behave much like enamels which I like to work with. I shot the nose large spots with Vallejo Air RLM84 and I did not have the same control with it as I do with enamels. I had to go back and retouch with MM enamel RLM83 to get a finer demarcation line around the Vallejo paint.

BD that Dora is looking awesome!

I was able to get quite a bit of work in over the weekend. I freehanded the RLM 74 using Mission Model paints and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I really like these paints, they are very forgiving. Tailband and RLM 04 are both tamiya and were masked and sprayed after the rest of the camo.

I really need to research lighting for taking better picturesBig Smile Hopefully I'll get a clear coat down soon and move on to decals.

Got some more decals on the 1/72  190F-8.   Boy decals made in 1992 are a pain,  after putting micro scale decal maker on them so the dont break up then getting them on the plane I use Walthers decal set on them so they better be in place cuz that stuff is hot.  No moving the decal after that!

I put on like two maybe three decals and wait an hour before I do any more.  If I don't I'll accidentally touch one and smere it all over. Take a look at the cross on the right wing, I had to splice in a corner of it because I smered it!

That is looking great Andy. I've heard good things about Mission Paints.

For lighting I use those aluminum portable clamp on light from Home Depot and have 3 of them clamped over the area I use for final pictures. For light difusers I use white tracing paper taped over the fixture. This softens the light effect.

These fixtures are cheap and do a great job.

Oh and I forgot I lost the whole propeller assemble this weekend,  it was there on the bench then gone! Blaming the dog!  went through the garbage can piece by piece, still can't find it.  Now I suppose I'll have to go and get a doner kit.  Ugh!

Despite your decal problems John, that still looks nice. Is there no way you can get an AM prop.

Thanks for the feedback PJ. I have the same clamps that I use for my bench. I'll have to try the paper over them. That's my problem, the direct light from the bulbs is too much. I'll give it a go, thanks again!

Rooster - that's looking great!

As for the prop assy, you may be able to fit the 1/72 Eduard Brassin set.

Another update on my Dora....I was gonna give Hasegawa a pass on the color scheme mistake on Michalski's Dora thinking the kit was older. The kit isnstruction sheet is from 2005 and the Eagle Editions decal sheet containing the updated information is from 2003 so Hasegawa should have done some checking since the info was out and verified in actual pictures.

But then the Eagle Editions sheet has Michalski's name misspelled as Michaelski so even they made a mistake. As a side note, 21st Century makes a 1/32 diecast model of Michalski's Dora and they actually got the scheme and name correct LOL.

The corrected left wing tip area has what appears to be a paint patch, or half painted. This part is clearly visible in one of the pictures in the Eagle Editions sheet so It's correct.

The right wing also has a filled in area forward mid wing with RLM83 and the top of the right aileron is a solid RLM75 cutting into the green area.

Most all of the larger decals are on. I still have to add several small stencils.

I was going to replace the guns with brass tubing but I drilled out the bores even more and painted them several shades of Alclad paints till I got the desired metal color. I then hand polished them with a soft cotton rag giving them a metallic sheen.

The wing cannons

and the nose guns

I was going to replace the loop antenna with thin brass strip but tried first to thin the plastic to see how thin I could get it and it actually looks to scale so I will be using the part as is.

There are a couple more plastic antennas I will be replacing with thin surgical wire I have courtesy of my late friend and former FSM member John Staworski who sent me a ton of this stuff some years back.

No, actually it's all Model Master paint,   enamel until I run out of current stock then it's acrylic.  Boo Hoo

On another note when I got home last night at about midnight I took one more look around my bench for the prop assembly and sure enough I found it!  totally destroyed! Crying So it's a good thing Brandon told me about the AM one cuz I went ahead and ordered it earlier in the day.

It was on the floor so I'm gonna blame the dog.   Lol

Here's a prop update on the 1/72 Fw190. this is what it looked like when I picked it up off the floor.  All the cooling blades but one gone and all the propellers broken off.

I decided to try to ressurect the assembly.

I think it's good to go.  And I think the thinner fan blades look better than the thicker molded ones.

And I got the canopy masked.

No, it just fell out of the front of the plane right at my feet and my big clown feet smashed it.  And I never saw it fall!
