Thats a nice start on the 152. I have one I want to get to one day.
On Ed's bench, ???
Looking good SD!
Thanks 68GT.
Well, it's starting to look like an airplane now. Found a couple of seams that I filled after the pics were taken. Will be sanded and reprimed after I get home from work.
Buddy- Those who say there are no stupid questions have never worked in customer service.
Nice!
I'm a bit AWOL since I'm a Scout camp and reception is spotty. Hope to get back into the swing of things when I get back.
Thanks 68GT!
She went into the paint shop earlier this week and is now ADC Gray overall. The MM paint is pretty close, however being somewhat glossy I have hit or miss results on the model. Some areas are nice and smooth, others are kind of pebbly. Will have to revert to my car building roots and see if I can sand the offending areas smooth and then hit her with some gloss. I didn't take any pics of her before I masked, but here she is with a coat of Tamiya Semi Gloss black before I start with the metallics on the rear of the fuselage and the intakes.
Here is the rear of the fuselage. Paint is Model Master Stainless Steel. Detail on the petals is from the Eduard PE set.
Intakes should be done by tomorrow. Hopefully my decals from Fundekals will arrive tomorrow and she should be ready for decals Sunday.
I almost got restarted yesterday but when I came home from work I cut the grass and that did me in. Maybe today I will do some masking and painting on the Tomcat.
I'm just taking it one GB at a time.
I have finished the build:
And the cockpit:
Now on to priming, filling, masking, and painting.
Is there any way to get on the roster? I feel that I have not started yet as I am not on it.
Looking good there SD!
It's been awhile since I posted here, but the F-102 is finished. The Meng kit overall isn't a bad kit, however, some areas are overengineered and it's fiddly as heck. Had a bit of a scare as I was cleaning up one of the wing fences. The masking tape pulled up part of the clear coat. Fortunately, a couple of coats of clear and it's hardly noticeable. Here's the pics.
68GT, thanks for hosting this build. For the front page, I like the next to last pic best. Keep up the good work guys.
Buddy, nice work on that kit. I've got one in the stash too, so your comments on the kit are pertinent.
Cheers
Tony
Sorry about that Dutchman, I thought I did that already.
Nice job on the 102!
Thanks Ed and Tony! If this GB is still going on when I start the Case XX, I'll post it here. Right now I'm rescuing kits from the Shelf of Doom. I have a F-106, but it's already painted and ready for decals. You guys keep up the good work! Thank you Ed for hosting this GB.
Thanks!
I think I'll just let the GB go till the end of the year and then no new starts. This gives 5 months and then anyone who started in that time can finish when they have the time.
Me myself have been doing things to the house and with the family. I have to get back on the bench.
I actually sat down and did some building yesterday. It was only some wheel painting but it was 5 sets of wheels and was a start hopefully.
Sailing_Dutchman I have finished the build: Now on to priming, filling, masking, and painting.
Get any paint on this sucker yet?
Yes, I did get it painted, but when I sprayed the TS-80 flat the can ran out and ruined the finish.
Does anyone know how to fix this? I was going to get a new can and try to spray over it in hopes that it would fix it, and if it did not work then use Purple Power to strip the paint and try again. Either way it will be a few weeks before I can get more flat clear.
What did you use for the color coats? If it was acrylic, you're probably out of luck other than sanding smooth and reshooting. As for throwing it in the purple lake, it's been my experience that Tamiya lacquers just laugh at Purple Power. I've had a car body sitting in the purple lake for about five years now and nothing has happened to the paint.
Thats a clear lacquer isnt it? How bad is it?
I would try to spot sand it and then give a few coats of clear gloss. Aircraft in use were spot repaired all the time so getting a perfect match isnt really all that necessary and you want a gloss so your decals go down smooth and have no silvering.
Maybe try to use a fine scotch pad instead of sand paper.
I haven't posted in a long time, just getting back to the bench after a long break. No real progress on this kit, this pic is just a level set of where I left off. Lots of small subassemblies, almost ready to come together all at once. I'm going to do a wash on the weapon bays, then start the bulk of the assembly.

I finished painting and decaling, but when I went to clean some overspray off the canopy I accidently used Tamiya Airbrush Cleaner instead of thinner. The clear was crazed and micro-cracks formed at the corners. I am contacting Dragon and should have a new one in a couple of weeks.
Do you think a light buff and some clear on it like Future might work on it?
How bad does it look?
It is quite bad. I tried polishing it and putting it in future, but the erosion is to deep to fill.

yeah, that's not going no to work. You have to find a new one or fill it and paint it Black.
Hey guys, sorry its been so long but been doing other things lol, bloody PS4 Anyway some mighty fine builds have been made gents!!!! As for me I've lost the wind out of my sails on the F-106, just some things thatwould need to be machined off not just sanded in order for the fit to be right lol. Might get back to it but dunno. Started something else in the meantime to keep the *** embers going, 1/72 An-2 of a plane here in Oz that I got to take a ride on. 68 hope to jump back in with either something ele or the bloody dart soon.
Just jump back whenever you can! I'll keep this GB open after January 1st to anyone that has started a build.
I'm in a rut myself and have done very little building in the past 6 months.
I have had no luck with getting a new part from Dragon, so I ordered a vac-formed Fw 190 canopy from trumpeter. With a little modding I can hopefuly make it fit, as the 152 was a high-altitude 190.
Ive never compared the two but might open up some boxes and see what my kit canopies look like this weekend.
S_D, this is a spare from the Tamiya 190 D-9 1/48 kit. 14.5 mm wide, 49 mm long.
Yours if you want it, let me know.
Thank you, but I do not think that I need it. I have ordered one and it is on its way. I should have it in a few weeks.
