How far along are you with the 6, Falcon and Tomcat?  Maybe you can jump right in.

I'm not entirely sure,  at the most, MAYBE the fuselage halves together?  It's been a while, after Christmas I will do a more extensive search....

Just did a quick look...the tomcat has the cockpit installed, but the upper and lower fuselage halves are not mated.  The viper appears to have the upper and lowes attached, but that is as far as I had gotten, and the dart appears to be the farthest along, it appears as though the cockpit is assembles and the airframe is built with zinc chromate in the wheel wells and weapons bays.

If I threw my hat into the ring on this, I would do finish all three, and throw another kit in there, me 262, me 109, p47...shoot, I may even whip out the Russian fighter kit that I have in the stash....

Nice, is that a what if or a real camo pattern?

I have just the canopy and wheels left myself.

We have one of those bad boys over here in Hatboro/Horsham Pa, at a small museum on the grounds of a former Naval Air Station.  It was featured in an episode of 'Mysteries at the Museum' on the history channel!

Nice looking build!

GT,

I will be ready to start the Hasegawa 1/72 JV-44 FW-190D as soon as I can set up my bench and find some instructions for it to replace the ones I lost.

Excellent job RK. Those planes have some sexy lines.

I finally started on my Dora last night so here is the box image:

I will be doing Oberstleutnant Gerhard Michalski's Dora from Stab/JG4 which has a super groovy mottling scheme.

Got the pit ready for some paint.

Hasegawa gives you the option of closed or open engine vents so open they will be. I used the UMM razor saw to clean up the separations.

I also have the engine plug assembly partially together and ready for paint. This is partially visible thru the undercarriage bay and looks ok but I will be adding more wiring and plumbing to make it look busier. I was hoping for a simple OOB build but I think the fun is just beginning.

I usually don't use the pilot figure but darn, this one is VERY nice with excellent details and think it's a special feature of this particular kit issue. I did use the UMM scriber to undercut some strap and uniform details so the washes will settle better.

I grabbed this kit on ebay a while back for a really great price with free shipping and has the Eduard pit detail set and brass cannons included. Hasegawa has done a great job with the pit and the IP details so a pe replacement is an overkill in this case so I will use the Eduard set on another future build.

RiK,

Wonderful, wonderful job sir! They look amazing.

PJ,

Great start...that kit has great details to it. I got the UMM scriber and wooden handle UMM razor saw for xmas and love them. I am looking forward to your next installment.

The plug bulkheads were painted RLM 02, and the engine parts got some Humbrol Metalkote Aluminum and flat  black. Working from photos, I grabbed my box full of electronic junk and located cables to be used for the engine plumbing. I cut some brass tube and used thin CA to secure them to the drilled holes. I then inserted the black wires as in the reference photos. It will mostly be hidden once it goes into the fuselage but the busy look is there.

I added several lines on the other side.

The plumbing fills the area and busies things up.

and the other side

and dry fitted in the fuselage to see how it looks

I still may add more lines to further make it look more busy. The real Dora had a ton of wires and lines in there. Once the part is secured to the fuselage it will receive some oil washes for weathering to dirty things up a bit. Still lots of small things to do.

Thanks Steve!

The first day of 2018 has been a very lazy and relaxed day.  It's been raining the entire day, very windy and cold in the 40's. The wife has been watching tv the whole day so it's been a perfect modeling day.

Got the IP done. Each instrument has a drop of Clear Parts Cement.

and the pit tub

I still have to do some more weathering and light griming. I thought I had PE belts but I don't have any so I ordered a set from HGW which are supossed to be fantastic and better than the PE ones.

I also added more lines. I also made my own braided line by wrapping thin copper wire around another wire then painted it grey.

That looks outstanding PJ, I could jump in there and fly the thing. Great idea for the hose! I think you will really like the HGW belts.

PJ,

Outstanding work there on the pit and engine! The immense detail in the engine is amazing. Sir you are sitting the bar high for 2018!

Thanks Steve and Hunter!

Steve

I have heard great things about them and are supossed to behave MUCH better than pe ones. I have this set coming which has 2 of them. I was going to add the nice pilot figure but it blocks out some of the detail so I decided to save it for a future build.

Hunter

Those added hoses really busy up things in there. Once the wells are in place and painted, then I may add some lines there too. I'm also looking into doing something with the cannon shell chutes since it's just an open cavity in the wing. I need to add someting in there.

Time to start the next one.

The Hasegawa 1/72 Fw-190D9 from the JV44 Combo kit. I built the Me262 a few years back.

Here is the box art I was saving. The the 190s were used as CAP for the 262s during take off and landing. The undersides were painted red with white stripes to identify them to the AA gunners.

The 262 I built a few years ago. I need to try another one. I kbnow I could do a better job now.

The start of the Dora

68,

I guess I forgot to put up the finished pic of the F-5. I never did make a base for it.

Finally got a start on the replacement kit.

Fuselage glued up, have to take it in stages, fit is no where near close. This will be an in-flight display, so gear doors are closed.  No detail in any of the bays anyway. Office done, and front half of fuselage glued up. In process of getting the intakes together.

Have to say, fits are not the best on this old bird. Starting to lose what hair is left fighting this thing. PPP is certainly your best friend on this one.

MC, I was wondering what happened to the F-5.  Nicely done!

Goldhammer, what kit do you have there?  I know its at least a F-15A or C

I was going to, and eventually will, make a stand for it but got caught up packing and never got back to it. It's in Boise right now so I get back to it in the future.

Hello 68GT,

Would it be OK if I signed up to this GB? I have a Revell 1/72 P-47 that is well overdue to be built. I am thinking of doing one of Hub Zemkes 56FG Wolfpack.

When does the GB run to ?

Best Regards

Mark

I'm not really sure if the 56FG flew intercept missions or not but maybe someone else could chime in.  I know they did sweeps and escort but anything is possable.

GH

Those are really cool looking markings. Yes

Well I finally got the HGW belts and man they are a PITA to put together. As a matter of fact I wasn't impressed at all with them. You have to cut these things and the printed cut line is way off cause it's too wide for the pe buckles. I had to trim off more material so it would fit thru the pe buckle. By doing this, most of the printed stitching is lost. It took me 2 evenings to assemble these belts but the Eduard PE ones only takes me a few minites.

The package has another belt to be assembled and I will use it simply because I have it but I will not be getting this product again. I also had to paint the back side since it's just blank.

I drilled two holes with a #80 bit to attach the shoulder belts with very thin wire. I think the PE belts look better and have more detail than these but they will stay regardless.

I also used my mini drill bit to drill out the exhaust pipes and carefully cleaned them up with a blade.

That s to bad they were a pain but they look pretty good now.

I started out on 3 F-106s but I'm not sure I have the room to handle all of them at once.  These things are pretty big.
