With that excellent addition, the Russian Armor Group Build comes to a close. This was my first GB as a host, and you all helped to make it enjoyable and , I think, highly successful.  Thanks again to all who participated!

Sadly I'm going on vacation/holiday for the next two weeks so I again won't have any progress to show. I'll be back on the T-44 in December and hopefully finish up sometime around the first of the year.

Well its Nov. 7, 10 PM in California, USA and I'm calling the JS-3 (IS-3) done!   I could do a bit more work on it, but to be honest, my back is really aching after 12 straight days at the bench and I need a break!!  Because of GB end date I rushed through the weathering so its not up to my usual standards, I hope you all don't mind.  I totally messed up the look of the tracks by experimenting with a couple of different weathering techniques...BAD MOVE!  I had to improvise and make them look the best I could...oh well.  Anyway, here's the 1/35 Tamiya JS-3:

Ernest: I love that IS-III! The worn paint looks amazing! And the T-62 ain't half bad either! Looking forward to seeing them finished up!

Wish I had something to post. Sorry Dwayne I offered to paint up some figures for the father of vet who wants to give them to him as Christmas gift. And he wants them by Thanksgiving, since I'm going on vacation/holiday next week I've been rushing to try to get them done and shelfing everything else. 

Your weathering and color modulation on the JS-3 is excellent!!  Looking forward to seeing her with tracks on.

The T-62 looks like a solid build, and the scheme looks interesting.

Pretty quiet in here, not surprising seeing that the GB will be over in 4 days!

Its been pretty tough the last few months with a full time job, online college classes and daily life stuggles!  Last time I posted an update the JS-3 was sitting with its base coat, including shadows and highlights.  Fortunately I was able to get a bit done the last week and its close to getting finished.  First I gave it a gloss coat of Future, added the decals, then overcoated them with more Future.  Next was a general wash of Flory's Dark Brown wash and some localized pin washes of Tamiya Dark Brown wash.  Followed this with a few thin coats of Vallejo Matte Varnish, then did some light drybrushing with some oil paints (mix of Winsor Newton Olive and Naples Yellow).  After this dried I sprayed filters of MIG Green and Brown to give the finish some depth.  Chipped high wear areas with Vallejo Model Color German Camo Dark Brown and added some streaking with various MIG oil paints.   Still have a little bit of weathering to do and also the tracks, but its nearly there:

I also got some work done on the T-62.  Last we saw her she was just primered.  I decided to go in a different direction and dress her up in Syrian camo.  I chose Model Master Acryl Sandgelb as the base coat, lightened with about 10% MMA Flat White.  I added a bit of color modulation and then used Tamiya XF-58 Olive Green for the green camo pattern.  The camo is only about 1/3 done and I expect to take another two weeks to finish her up so she won't make the deadline, sorry.

The Zevdza T-26 is way down the line!  I decided to depict it as a tank in the Spanish Civil War, so I need to do a bit of research to see what paint/markings this requires.

As soon as I get the JS-3 done I'll go back and get updated on all the work done in the GB the last few months!

2 WEEKS!!!  YIKES!!

I'm glad I decided to check back in and see where the GB is at!  Sorry MFC and all, I've been working on other projects the last few months and totally lost track of this one.  I better get my b*tt in gear and finish up at least ONE of the vehicles I started!!

Dwayne: Thanks, but if I don't get the badge it's no big deal. I'm hoping to be finished sometime by the end of the year or early next year. It's a complex kit but the big thing is me getting honked off my melting the ammo and setting the kit aside for about six months. 

And some of the features of the kit are just... odd. They give you the beautifully detailed engine- which is barely visible if you leave the access hatches open. But the engine cooling vents which you can see though they don't even give you set of fans for. I guess I could just scratchbuild some fans or look for resin aftermarket but I'm been going too long on this, I'm blanking off the inside and painting it all black. It should be good enough. 

Zvezda: Thanks! I'm really happy with how it came out too. Great advice there but I've already installed the engine and installed the decking over it. It's almost nothing to see anyway- next time I'll try to add a little staining and leakage... 

Tony: The KV is so 'steel' looking and beautiful and the vignette so 'chilling'. What did you use for the snow effect?

LA: Terrific painting (it looks as if it actually weighs some tons) and weathering, especially the mud. And your tank not only survived the enemy dot-filtering ambush but it emerged prettier than ever.

Gamera: I really like your engine, it's craving for some oil spills and smoke stains

It has definitely slowed down in this GB.  Not unexpected considering there are only three weeks left. 

Gamera, as host of this GB, I am giving you extra time due to the difficulty level of your kit.  That Miniart kit is no joke.  Please continue to post, and grab the badge whenever you can finish.

Sorry nope. I'm still moving, I got a little work done yesterday and was hoping to get some more done tonight. I'm just at a point of having to assemble something, set it aside to let it dry for a couple hours, etc which is taking forever.

Thanks for the kind words guys. Always to get a good result out of a kit like that while trying out a few new things.

Das Beav, you are welcome to steal as much as you like, as I have done myself from many others... One tip from Stikpusher - remember that the wheels are wider than the gap between the guide teeth on the track links. From me - there isn't enough space between the return rollers and the fenders to fit the track links. Apart from that it's all good fun!

The Su76 turned out wonderfully, LostAgain! When or if I get to my Alan kit, I am borrowing(stealing) all of your ideas and technigues. Still won't turn out as well as yours.

Hey Piers, despite the trouble you had with the kit, you did a fantastic job on it!!  Tools, tracks, mud...it all looks great!

I threw up the third picture on page one for completed kits because it shows at least a little of the work you did on the fighting compartment.  If you would like a different one, please let me know.

So I did the last few things, the headlight went on, an antenna and some autumn leaves (tea leaves).

So now the SU 76 is done

The Alan kit was not a great kit or fit, but it seems to have come together all right. And I got to try a few new techniques and finishes.

Dwayne, thanks for running the GB, it has been great fun making this kit and watching all the other builds.

Now off to the Pride of the Luftwaffe GB, then the Japanese GB, the Commonwealth GB and the Modern armour GB..... before the Weekend madness GB....

This has been a new experience for me, still need to work on it, but the advantage is you can always wash off any excess or go in and slop a bit more on.

Tony- I missed your KV. It looks great! Awesome weathering. The snow and figures give it that extra battle flavor too.

Gamera- I really like your painting and wash techniques. Very convincing. You better finish that S before the deadline bud. LOL.

Lost- That SU weathering is great. I never have the cajones to do heavier weathering like that. Yours is top notch. I really like that kit.
