Dwayne nice tracks, that's a very metal looking rubber.

I made little progress on the T-34, JUST hull and turret assembly completed and sanded. A nice little after market gun barrel from RB models was used.

That's nice Dwayne. I'm going to have to do that too soon, so I'm watching with interest.

Cheers

Looks good Dwayne, really like your results.

BTW guys, I am still in this, just gotten bogged down with a bunch of other stuff.

So I have had some time off from work, with the plan to get some serious bench time.  Yeah, not so much.  Between getting up later, leisurely breakfast, honeydo list, and day trips (staycation), I have done very little modeling.  Sad

I did, however, start the weathering with some pigment:

And did some work on the tracks.  Primed with Stynylrez, then dark iron, then used Mission Models rust for a light rust coat.  You can see the rust effect on the left track.  Trying to make rubber bands look at least a little like the real thing.  Big Smile

I like the rust look, so will try to go light on the pigment on the tracks.

D.: indeed these are L&L tracks and they will be a challenge (for me).

Kien:  this IS-2 is truly amazing. I am impressed by the realism of the various stowage stuff.

Zvezda: Looks cool! I built a few of Tamiya's 1/48th kits and they were nice. Good detail and they went together like a silk glove.

Kien: Super job there!!! The weathering looks good and I love the storage.

Kien, I think the weathering on your tank looks good.  I agree that it is easy to overdo.  The stowage stands out for me.  Really well done.  Front page updated, and thanks for being part of the GB!

If you find time for another entry, we would love to see it.

I've just bought a Tamiya 1/35 SU-85. I'm thinking seriously of making the leap from 1/48 to 1/35 armor. I'll let you know if I decide to change my entry for this GB.

Cheers

Kien, that looks real good! I’m sure that Tamiya kit builds up a lot more easily than the Dragon or Zvedzda IS-2 kits. It sure is one imposing looking beast once built, no matter who makes the kit.

Well, I have just finished the Tamiya IS2 in 1:35 scale. This was a good build though I feel Tamiya kits can lack detail especially for the price. This was probably the price of a regular Takom kit, but has half the detail. The kit was mostly stock, with the addition of Eureka tow cables, value gear stowage, and some beaded thread I used for rope. Model was painted in Tamiya acrylics, weathered with some oils, and added some pigments. I am trying to get a better hang of weathering, I feel it's hard to get that realistic look and easy to over-weather.

I have some more Russian armor, if I get to building them I'll definitely come back to put them on this GB.

Hey Zvezda, that is some good progress, and the kit looks excellent.  I think I see link and length tracks?

Man City, those Tamiya 1/48 kits are sweet. I’ve built one and have a few more in the stash. Great stuff!

I thought they would be good kits.  It is Tamiya, afterall.  Now I just have to find some "extra" money lying around so I can order one...or two.  Big Smile

Griffin Tamiya is smart indeed (surely smarter than me Stick out tongue).

Works started yesterday, I made some sanding sticks, trimmed and assembled the various wheels, as well as the hull and turret main sections. All fall easily into place. Points that require a little more 'sensitivity' are the infantry handrails, when cut and cleared off sprue attachment. I also cannot see any point in the (as advertised on the box) 'Cast metal chassis', I think it makes the model heavy without any noticeable gain and one has to pay extra attention when handling the assembled hull.

That box art makes me want to run out and buy one of those 1/48 T34. Tamiya is smart!

Welcome to the GB, Zvezda.  I will be interested in this build.  I want to get at least one 1/48 armor kit, and want to see how they come together.  Front page updated.

Not sure what it says.  It was the decal included with the kit.  The instructions with the kit were in russian so no help there either.

I looked it up (google tr.)  and the slogan is 'Dmitry Donskoy', name of a medieval prince of Moscow who beat the Mongol Horde [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dmitry_Donskoy].

Cool.

Anytime Lost! It’s no Tamiya kit, but it can look real good when done up right.

Stik, guess what?

The wheels STILL don't fit into the track links. Great tip thanks mate!

LA, I built that Su-76 a couple years ago. Make sure that you thin down the road wheels so that they fit between the track guide teeth. I did not know that until I was about to install the tracks... I had to thin the inner surfaces after the weeks were glued in place. Much easier to do beforehand... have fun!

Route62: I like what you did with the T34. It turned out quite nice.

Stik: Nice start to the BTR, looking forward to the finished kit.

Lostagain: I also have that ALAN Su76 in my stash. Picked it up for a song years ago and

am looking forward to seeing what you do with it. T35 has broken my fear of

                indy links.

DMan: Congrats to you!!! ....But Go Spurs!

Hey lostagain, glad to have you aboard the GB.  Front page is updated.  Looking forward to seeing that kit come together.

Thanks for the congrats.  It really was a dream season.

Congrats to Chelsea for the FA cup, and a huge THANK YOU for beating Man U!

Hey LA, welcome!

I've got a few of those Alan kits and they're rougher than a barbed-wire bathtub. Looking forward to seeing what you do with her.

Hello Comrade Dwayne,

I would like to join the GB with the Alan / Dragon SU76M 1/35 scale.

But first well done on winning the premier league and GO CHELSEA!!!!

We beat United, we beat United!

The Alan kit is solidly built, if panels were to scale, it would have 100mm armour plate - better than most panzers…

Route 62

T-34 looks fantastic. That is a great finish and I like the remnants of snow left on the tank. The whitewash has been done very well too. Looking forward to your next build, please keep on with the armour

Stik

The BTR70 has started off quickly, should be good.

AA

The Su 122 sounds frustrating, unusual for Tamiya to have issues like that.

Kien

The IS2 is looking pretty massive there. It looked good before the weathering, like what you are doing with the pigments around the running gear.

Dutch,

Mini art SU85 Looking good in primer, can’t wait to see it painted up.

Bufflehead

JS-3 Thanks for the paint tutorial, I will give it a try on my up and coming model. How much time do you allow in between doing each change of colour? Can they follow one after the other, or do you need to allow hours of drying time in between coats? The black and white method on the T-26 is interesting too

Route62: This is a winter battle-weary masterpiece! Very inspiring work and painting/weathering!!!

What is the slogan on the turret?

Not sure what it says.  It was the decal included with the kit.  The instructions with the kit were in russian so no help there either.  Thanks all for the compliments on the build.  This build has got me wanting to do more armor since I usually am a plane guy.

I've been admiring that T-34 too, Route62. There's a lot to learn simply from looking at it.

Cheers

Thanks Griffin, this should be a fun build. Now that the suspension is built, the worst is behind now... I think
