Shelf of Doom GB II - 2018

There's some really nice stuff here.  Maybe I should have joined the shelf of hell GB... Anyhow, reaching way back in the thread, the elmers sausages had some reaction with the tamiya primer and actually etched the plastic and made a mess of things.  I was just about to add this plane to the firing range when the Mig filter I ordered came in so I will give it a try and see if I can get an overall dusty look -nothing to loose. 

I left the plane out in the sun for a few weeks to gas out whatever was happening.  Sanded a bit, brush painted... and it's really a mess but I'm proceeding as an experiment.

So I went from this...

  Clearcoated and starting decals

And I'd like any advice on using these Mig filters.  They are super thin an airbrush ready.  What PSI, distance etc.  Any advice welcome

Great work all-it's good to see all these builds being completed and very nicely at that.

Lewbud inspired me to pull out the 1/48 Accurate Miniatures F-6B that I was going to build for the D-Day 'Flash' GB-got the interior painted and then it went to the Shelf of Doom.

Pulled it out last Sunday, got the interior installed and fuselage together.  Yesterday I primed and today I put down the white for the invasion stripes.  Hope to get taping and striping done along with the rest of the painting by the end of next weekend....but hey, it's been sitting for how many years?

Due to the lack of e-mails recently I forgot about this GB , however as e-mail has been restored I found it again and began work on my Tiger. After taking it out of the box it was in quite a few pieces as the Purple Power disolved the superglue and some of the other non-solvent glues:

I re-assembled it and filled some of the seams:

I am now working on priming and will post when that is finished.

I completed the Comet. It looks like something I would have built 10 years ago but at least It's not still in the box in pieces, It had missing track sections, missing decals so I did what I had to do to make up for these deficiencies.

Nice recovery on the Kfir.

I've only used filters on Armor. Their purpose is to make a subtle tonal change to the base colors. For example, panzer grey can benetfit from a blue filter to give the panzer grey a slight blue hue. And I have never applied a fliter with an airbrush, only with a brush. On camouflage schemes i'll use the filter to tone down the contrast of the  camouflage. That is what I did on the Type 4 I'm building in this GB. 

Since your Kfir is now kind of an experiment, using this filter would be a neat test. I hope others will give their 2 cents as well.

EDIT: I know I said I've only used a filter with a brush, that doesn't mean an airbrush couldn't be used. Although, I would apply it very lightly to avoid any running.

John - I'm very interested to see how that filter changes your experimental Kfir.

Steve - Nice job on the Comet, its better completed than not. I recently bought this kit myself. I've used the first photo on page 1. Thanks again for participating here.

Bit of progress - think I'm done with decals, though there's still a lot of stencils so we'll see what I feel like in the morning.  Next up, weathering and the filter experiment

I have put a coat of Alclad grey primer on followed by Vallejo Model Air dunkelgelb RAL 7028:

Next I will make my first attempt at post-shading.

Calling this one done.  Never had so many things go wrong on a kit!  I will say that airbrushing the ochre MIG filter worked well.  Very subtle but in terms of applying very lightly with 8lbs or so pressure I had no runs or pooling.  Going up on the shelf along side my F5 aggressor.

Despite all the issues you had with this build it turned out quite well!

What are your thoughts on using a filter? 

Thanks - it was a monster.

I really like the filter.  Its very subtle and I was hoping for getting a sunbleached look which didn't happened but it brought a common tone to all the colors e.g. brought down the green.  Worked great out of the airbrush set to 8lbs and very light flow.  I tested on a bare plastic piece ( hull from an unbuilt sub ) and the pigment change is very slight, but there for sure.  I'll be trying this on better kits ;)

I finally got the screens added and the tow cables attached. This is my first attempt at adding rust affects to model and i'm relatively pleased with the results. 

Let me know your thoughts, granted the pictures make the rust brighter than on the actual model. 

I have to finish the pin wash, then add some rust effects to the turrent and hull, then I'll be close to finishing the tank. Then to the dio base and a couple figures.

I do hope to make the finish date. 

EDIT: I'm going to post some better pictures, most likely this weekend.

Yeah! I finished another. Had lots of fun with 30 year old decals and Alclad NMF.  Lost the ejection seat somewhere so I had to scratch build that.  the decals and seat belts were the only thing added to it not out of the box.

Great job on the F-80. The NMF turned out very well. I have a lot of old decals too, so it's nice to know I can save them.

I'm actually imbarrassed considering how much is done and I havnt touched it since the last GB like this.

Don't be embarrassed, 68. I'd like to see this one finished! What scale is it, by the way?

I got the pin wash complete, and this weekend I'm chipping her up and rusting her a bit. Then, with a little luck, I'll start mudding her too.

It's the Hasegawa kit in 1/72.  Bought this back around 1982 from the air an space museum on a class trip to Washington.  Started it around 2005 when I got back into modeling.

I got some chipping done on the Type 4. This was my first attempt, and I'm not real happy with how it turned out. Let me know your thoughts.

I'm waiting for some Wilder Rusting effects to come in then I'll finish doing some rust on the hull and the turret. Then some mudding. More to come...

Made some progress on the Mustang-my first attempt at invasion stripes-not perfect but I'm happy with them-learned some lessons on the way so all is good....and in real life, they were painted with brushes quickly, so......

will shoot another coat of Future tomorrow after work to clear up some silvering of decals-then some flat on Tue and hopefully some oil weathering on Wed-might actually meet the deadline!

John, great work there, the scratchbuilt seat looks really well done.
