Thanks guys.

Jack, Tamiya has you assembling the wings as a subunit before installing them to the fuse, probably since you can pose them folded or extended. I installed them seperatly so I could paint them prior to attachment. The problem was, the PE rigging comes in units which are far easer to attach than cutting them and adding them seperatly. It turns out that painting the wings after they were installed, like Tamiya sugested, would not have been that difficult.

A brief update for the palm tree attempt:

The trunk was made from wires and tissue paper soaked in thinned PVA glue.

Top and bottom bulges of the trunk were made with Milliput and some pencil wood scraps.

Then the assembly was painted with a brown artist's acrylic

Coconuts were made from Milliput and the leftover was formed into two small limestone rocks, just so as not to throw it away.

The major problem were the palm fronds. After examining various photos (mine and from the net) I realized it was very difficult to replicate these, exactly in 1:72.

After some unsatisfactory experiments with various materials, the best cheap and handy solution I could come up with, was to use the plastic from a document sleeve (stolen from the office Big Smile). The numerous lateral fronds cuts were made with the sprue cutter.

When all are assembled, I hope the result will remind something of a coconut palm tree.

Zvezda: Looks really good!!!

I've seen some people cut up silk ferns from the flower shop to make fronds. But yours look great as they are. Nice work there on the trunk and coconuts too.

Steve, great work with the Stringbag, the paint finish is super. Like many of us, I have the same kit in the stash, do you recommend the PE rigging set? It looks like it a good rendition of the flat strap style rigging.

Dwayne, looks like a good start to the Brewster there

Hogfants, the printing does look cool, good to hear your feedback after the fine nozzle is used. What software do you design the piece with?

Zvezda, I do like the way this is progressing, top work on the figures, especially in 1/72! Like the palm tree work, that is coming along really well. I take it the spine in the leaves is scored to give a bit of lighter colour and depth.

Thanks everyone for the kind words around my build, always fun to share with you.

And what is Future known as in the US now? Thought I might try picking up a bottle while we are over there.

Absolutly, you can't go wrong.

I'd love to try another on now that I know the pitfalls.

@Zvezda,

The tree looks realistic, I like the method you used, and I'm looking forward to seeing the finish tree.

@lostagain,

I used Siemens PLM NX10 to design the part. As soon as he has time to run the new print, I'll post the pictures. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Bit more detail work ...

Drilled out some oblong access holes on the wheel covers.  I noticed on period photos that, at certain angles, there can be seen a singular spoke, so added a wire.

Before fixing the cabane struts underneath the cowl, have added some tubes across the width.  These will be the entry points for the rigging afterwards.

The Brengun PE gun ring sight arrived in the mail, so have added that detail.  This was so delicate that I decided to redo the stands that supported it, as well as those on the Aldis gun scope, just to keep things looking in scale.

Jack

Thank you Steve and Bruce.

Next up, I will tackle the wind driven generators.  The aircraft should be equipped with three of these, but the Matchbox kit only supplies one.

Very fast update: Camouflage colors were sprayed after the pattern was masked with Tamiya tape.

I am off for a business trip to Slovenia early morning, will be back Friday and I hope to make some better progress then.

Zvezda, thank you.

Between the palm trees and the Spitfire, that is going to be quite a colourful scene.  Nice lay of paint on the main colours.

Slovenia!  I've been there a few times visiting relatives.

Thank you Nick and Bish.

Thanks also for the reminder of the time left in our GB.  I hope to get at least all the construction done by then.  I drew up some stencil work and sent out to be custom printed into decal form (back in December) but still waiting Confused

Jack

Thanks guys.  I really appreciate all the kind comments.  Going to try to stay focused and keep working on this bird.

My local IPMS chapter has a convention next weekend, so that should be fun and help with motivation.  Noreastcon 2019, the 48th year the convention has been held.

I will be entering two kits with absolutely no expectation of getting an award.  Hoping to get some bargains for the stash, though.
