Count me in, Bish. I have several Airfix kits in my stash to choose from, I'll do at least one entry, probably more.

Airfix kits were being made in France from the early 80's when it was owned by US company general Mills, who also owned MPC. A few years later it was bought by another company which also owned Heller and production was moved to the Heller factory, also in France. Production stayed there until 2006 when it was bought by Humbrol and production was moved to India. Though when i bought the Victor tanker recently it did say made in UK.

Didnt know Heller went thru so many hands. The box says 1990.

So your FG1 was made in India and not the UK?

Airfix has been through a few as well.

When Hornby took over they moved production to India. Not sure if the Victor was made in the UK as some move to bring production back here or just because of its size.

I have a 1975 boxing of the Airfix 72nd Mosquito i plan to do next year. That has a little slip of paper in that says Made in England. I have not seen that on anything for donkeys years.

I totally for got I had this but it's finally gonna get built.

Anad my reference material.

Interesing that the box says made in France and not England. The figgies are rather nice and well detailed so maybe I will do a waterline version.

lewbud, what sort of prices were you seeing. I did find one for £100 but also this for 14.99. Not sure what the shipping would be.

I thought it would be cool to build one of the first series of kits that Airfix issued. I've built the Spitfire, and that was a challenging build to say the least. I've always had a thing for the Supermarine Rolls Royce S.6B float plane, so I went to evilbay to see if I could find one. The card I have on file with Paypal melted at the sight of the prices they were asking and my wallet superglued itself shut. Unless I can find one at a show cheap, I'll have to find something else.

Well that explains a lot about Verlinden, i have always felt their figures were over sized. Nice comparison shot.

Bish

They look much better, i don't think the scale differance will be a problem, that will make a nice scene.

Yes they will.

Left to right these figure are: Verlinden, Airfix, Bronco, Tamiya.... the Airfix and Bronco are close enough in stature to be fine. And from what I’ve read, Verlinden based his original stuff off of the old Airfix multi pose figures.

1978 according to scalemates. And i was wrong, i have seen one of tehse before. I just remembered one of the guys at the model club built this a few years back. He is an aircraft guys, ex RAF in fact, but he picked it out the previous Dec in the club secret santa and he brought it in the following year. I can see what you mean about the figures.

Yeah, I’ll build the kit figures as Infantry and use this figure set. Bronco tends to mold their figures at the larger end of the 1/35 spectrum

Bish this E boat is supposed to build up really nice. Too bad they never came out with detail sets for it. I totally forgot about it hidden up and away in my stash.

I also have the Revell S100 with lots of pe extras and the Merrit 1/48 late war Elco.

I have the Revell kit as well, along with the Griffon PE set a wood deck and a few other extras. I plan on doing that in 2020 for Checks 1945 GB. But i have been thinking about the Airfix kit, which i believe is an S-38 type. So i will deffinetly be keen to see how it goes together. I am sure in your hands it will come out a real cracker.

I’m thinking this one... but I won’t use the crew figures with it. They are the old multi pose British Infantry set and not quite right for gunners.

Not seen that one before Stik, look forward to seeing that.

Glad to have you guys on board.

The original 17 Pdr release is an older kit and pretty hard to find. Airfix re issued it not too long ago, and added their multi pose figures as crew. And I am very happy to be part of this one.

Hi Bish, I’m up in NC away from home for a week but can’t remember if I have an Airfix kit in the stash. I will look once I get back home.

I’m interested in the GB and will look for something to enter.

You must have one, everybody has and Airfix kit in the stash if you've been in the hobby for as long as we have.

Steve you are right! I’m still not home but remembered the old Airfix 1/72 E Boat I have tucked away in a corner of my man cave closet.

So Bish I’m in with the 1/72 E Boat kit then. I will post a picture shortly.

Glad you found somthing PJ, and looking forward to seeing that one.

Hi,

While messing around at home last night I spotted my Airfix Autogyro model in a stack in the corner of one of my rooms.  I think this Group Build is a good excuse to build that kit Big Smile
