Tim,

The Lighting is looking good. Keep at it!

SprueOne,

I've never seen a toon tank before. It'll be fun to watch it come together. if

My build started this evening at 2038. For inspiration, the original Italian Job is playing in the DVD. Unfortunately, I still can't post pics from my phone, so I'll have to go to the library tomorrow and post there.  Keep up the good work!

Caveman

My little secret............

Which it seems you're good a keeping!Smile

A bit of an update on the Mini build. When I went to bed about 8 hours into the build, I had completed the following: the chassis plate was primed and painted, I removed the visible mold seams on the exterior and primed it and masked it so the interior could be painted, primed, masked and masked the interior, primed and painted the hood, and primed and painted the roof cap.  Unfortunately, I didn't use fresh tape on my paint stick while I was painting the hood so it decided to fall off the stick and get some dust on it so I have to sand, prime and repaint. Also got some futz on the roof cap, so that will need to be sanded and repainted as well. Pics soon.

lewbud, SprueOne,
I've never seen a toon tank before. It'll be fun to watch it come together.

First for me too!

I have also had to re spray all the black I laid down before.  Bit of a setback.  With ten hours to go I should still be OK.  Tried a new paint for the body and it turned into concrete in my airbrush.  So I need to pick a new plan for the body as well.  Ahhhh  the joys of weekend madness!

Take care of business SprueOne. We'll be here when you get back.

Tim,

Bummer about the paint. I still haven't learned how to do glossy paint with my airbrush, even after all these years.

Now for some pictures. They stop when I went to bed this morning. There's really nothing to show as I had to go back and fix the hood and roof cap. I painted the door cards, but I don't like them so I'll probably just paint them black and be on my merry way.

Proof of non-startedness. 2037 last night.

The chassis pan is painted (maybe still in primer, it's a crappy pic).

Exterior primed and masked so I can paint the interior.

Interior painted.

Body on chassis pan.

Body mocked up with roof cap in place.

When I get home, I'll repaint the hood and then get started on the interior. I painted the bar the front seat mounts to so I can start adding stuff. I thought that this would be a curbside kit, but Tamiya in it's wisdom has put a full engine in there, which was unexpected. I thought I might run into a problem with the engine color, but it turns out BMC Green is about as specific as British racing green. As long as it's between an olive green and jade green I'm good to go. I found out that they painted the engines semigloss black in the more modern years, but where's the fun in that?  Roughly 27 hours to go.  Keep up the good work lads!

SprueOne,

I have to admit that I was kind of puzzled when I saw the picture of the base earlier.  Seeing the finished build I had to laugh and thought it was kind of awesome. Congratulations on being the first one to finish. Which pic would you like for the front page?

Well, build one is in the books.  With only ten min. to spare.  This one needed more work than I thought.  Sorry for the pics. but my cave is too dark and I can't get the color shifting paint to show very well.  I will try taking better pics. when the sun is up.

Sprue - So COOL!!  I wish I had a toon tank to ride when I was a kid!!  Love your out-of-box thinking for this display of the little Somua!  TBH, I was wondering what that "thing" was sticking out from the side of the base and also the screw "thingies" on top!! Bravo!!

Caveman - Wow!  Impressive...I wouldn't thought a car model could be completed in 48 hrs, but you're the MAN!  I love the color of the Lightning and the interior detail!  Kudos!!

Lewbud - Looks like the Mini Cooper is coming along nicely!  Purple roof?   Hmmm.....Huh?  Dying to see what the finished kit will look like!!

Well, I'll be out of town starting tomorrow and will most likely be out of touch with the GB.  I'll check progress of everyone on my cellphone, but I hate typing on that little thing!!  Gotta wait until I get back to my PC next week!

Happy Thanksgiving all!!

My hobby time is mostly spent on my model railroad but I've dabbled in some scale models.  This is my first post here.  Been lurking on the forum for a few days and decided to sign up.  Took a few minutes to figure out what's going on in this thread but it's awesome.  You guys are quick. I'm looking forward to seeing the rest!  Great work so far.  Very cool.

To quote the great Texas singer (and softball coach) Meatloaf "Two out of three ain't bad." The Mini is still in the garage due to the poor time management of the project foreman. However, she is still in the queue and should be done in the next couple of days. Picking up from where we last left off.

I finally completed a subassembly. You take your victories where you can.

The body is painted.

Painted body with the roof mock up.

The front end.

The rear suspension. Yes it is that minimal on the real thing.

The rear seat and roll bar installed.

Driver's seat installed.

Glass is in place, roofcap is glued on, body mocked up on chassis.

When I left for work this evening, I had just painted the engine and the subframe that supports it. I'm also going to leave the fender flares off because I broke one trying to paint it (don't ask). All that remains is finishing the engine, front suspension and a few interior bits and she'll be done. Who's next?

Hi Ted and welcome to the forums. I should have 4 days of almost uninterrupted building time (the only advantage of being away from my family) I will be starting the Bat Pod tomorrow and hopefully the Challenger II on Friday night or Saturday.
